I don't understand.

What doesn't make sense about one team that has beaten 3 of the teams above it and 2 of 3 losses are also above it? Also, that somehow with no victories anywhere on the list and a total of 7 wins should really be a good resume.

This computer algorithm is a fraud. It was not generated by any measurements other than an influence by the loses column.

We may not be in. But if we’re not, it should be the catalyst for fucking the whole system to the bejesus.

In or not, I hope Texas leads the charge in making it ideal to play cool OOC games. Making CCG games disappear. Making portal a single window. Making rev share equal, but NIL really NIL. Outlawing overalls on cheerleaders unless they are female and wearing absolutely nothing underneath.

The only conclusion that can logically be drawn at this point is the system is shit.

I don't think we are in, so I am looking for some schadenfreude scenario where BYU beats Tech on a last-second FG, Georgia bombs the everliving fuck out of Bama, Duke beats UVA, UNT and JMU take care of whatever business they need to take care of, and tOSU beats IU in a well-contested matchup.  The top four are tOSU, Georgia, Oregon and Indiana with first round matchups that are something like JMU at Ole Miss, UNT at aggy, Tech at OU, and ND at BYU (or really any variation of that shit show).  For the lulz and the ratings disaster that would lead to.

Just fucking leave aggy out, that would be more entertaining than if we got in.

BTW, I love this idea if we’re not in. Let the committee deal with these pre-season looking matchups while they could have had Arch Manning led Texas roll in the $$.

The loss column is the only thing that matters. You could fuck Cindy Crawford, Pam Anderson and Sydney Sweeney all in the same year, but if you also fucked Rosie O’Donnell too that’s all anyone is going to remember. The hotties don’t cancel out the ugly loss.

I had to throw in a younger name so the people here under 35 understand the analogy better.

Auerbach's positioning is interesting because of who signs her paychecks. There has to be some squirm with the networks, especially NBC. If Texas just says "fuck you" and pulls out of all future difficult OOC games, the other big programs who still schedule similarly would happily follow suit. The programs are all locked in with their rev shares from the networks for the time being. The networks? Losing a game with 16 million pairs of eyeballs watching those ads and trading that in for the duds vs studs changes outcomes. Take away 20 others that post good numbers for dogshit FCS matchups and shit gets real.

My one source of hope in regard to Texas having a shot is the idea that the execs can easily see this playing out like that and therefore applying pressure to the talking heads and the committee. These are all humans who are imperfect and money (or the removal of it) changes everything.

Fantastic. Making the playoffs when you probably don't deserve to because of corporate corruption.

Very proud moment to be a longhorn if that happens

Of course it's the reality. Which anyone with a brain knew would most likely happen going into the season.

Then getting run over by Florida's running game and whopped by Georgia sealed the deal.

Removing any single one of those losses and it's a no doubt playoff team. That's what we've been saying all along.

The alternative is we all turn into Indiana and schedule three god awful automatic wins and no one watches football until October. Schools will do what the incentives say to do. And this playoff committee is about to lay out the incentives for scheduling in the future. Reward the schools like Texas or the BYU’s and Ole Miss’s  of the world for scheduling and playing no one.

So what you’re saying is that this group of 12 people that are functionally only ranking 25 teams each week during a televised broadcast to make the other television sports programs more appealing for networks and viewers get to the end of the season and then are able to select 7 at large teams which they announce on yet another broadcast which allows them to design a system where certain teams play other teams in a televised made-for-TV tournament which could potentially be viewed by tens of millions of people that would tune in live where they could be advertised to by certain corporations that would pay major money to these networks in order to sell them things, might have more interest in putting the biggest brands into their setup versus others smaller brands….

That’s just crazy talk…

Fanduel odds moved from +2500 to +1800...

I still think we can make it for the sake of preserving quality OOC. It's going to be terrible for the sport if there is zero serious conference mixing in the regular season.

ND needs to be OUT. The wins are just too light. And it's bizarre that we are ranked behind OU as well.

This is genuinely the biggest issue with the committee. It's a bunch of old heads almost all of whom have specific ties to teams and schools or conferences that are relevant year after year. There is NO accountability.

I'd rather go back to the BCS style of ranking than continue this bullshit one more year.

12 folks. Six sitting ADs (Nebraska, Utah, Middle Tenn, Miami Ohio, Virginia, Arkansas). Two former ADS. Two former coaches. One writer (Ivan Maisel) and one former player (Wesley Walls.)

Having half of your group be existing, sitting ADs is a truly incredible conflict of interests - yeah they "recuse" themselves but who believes that.

Arkansas and Nebraska ADs on the committtee? We now aren’t at 0% chance we are at negative eleventy billion percent chance.

If Georgia beats them as bad as us then we are equal to Alabama in record. We’ll both have a bad loss but we’ll have a better resume overall

the problem is Bama beat Georgia at Georgia already.  Georgia is the measuring stick in the SEC and they beat them at their place.

Bama is in.

Personally I think our only path is Tech beats BYU and someone on the committee has the balls to say

1. ND has an SOS in the 30's compared to our #6

2. Notre Dame beat no one in the top 25 except USC(Pitt should drop out), lost to the only Top 15 teams they played and we have 3 top 15 wins and the best game against the #1 team all season and it was on the road.

why is ND in over Texas?  the only reason at that point is the number in the loss column.  Texas has proven they can beat top 10 playoff teams, ND has not.

That said, ND is the one helmet that can override Texas.

Riddle me this:

If there were no committee and playoff participants were sent as representatives from their conferences, would the SEC send Texas?

For this discussion, poll don’t matter - just the conference representatives - and you get to pick your format - 12 teams or 16 - byes or no byes - home games or neutral - I don’t care

All I want to know is the number of reps from each conference and wether or not the SEC would send Texas.

If the answer is yes, then make that your argument and forget about the Ohio St loss and all the whining about not playing those games anymore and instead focus on projecting your answer to this year’s playoffs and tell me which SEC team Texas should bump.

I agree.

THAT should be the talking point. Not the Ohio St loss.

maybe you are unaware so I will explain...it would be, if the committee didn't rank solely by number of losses.  since that is what they do, we have to turn their words back on them to stop them ranking solely by losses and that is to hold a mirror up to them regarding their statement  about high level OOC games.

We will also talk about ND and OU and SOS's for other teams that are in the 50's and 60's.  aggy is out of discussion because 1 loss v 3 loss is too much to overcome for morons who only consider the loss column.

I disagree. The most interesting thing in all of this is the fallout around scheduling.

It’s an existential problem for CFB because of the disparity in SOS created by NIL.

That’s why I asked the question the way I did because the Ohio St game doesn’t affect your place in the SEC standings - but the Florida loss does.

Georgia, Ole Miss, and Aggy all have fewer losses

OU and Bama are the same as Texas

No committee.
No polls.
Who does SEC send to the playoffs?

They finished second in the SEC.  We finished 6th.  That's how the committee looks at it.  Even though we beat aggy, we are not ahead of them

Thought we finished fifth due to h2h wins against Vandy and OU?  Also, how could Ou possibly have a stronger SOS than Texas if they played a Div 2 school?

If they want money for each win, they send:

1.  GA

2.  Ole Miss

3.  Aggie

4.  Texas

5.  Bama

6.  OU

7.  Vandy

If you go by best chance of winning it putting aside the tie breakers like head to head matchups, etc.  I'll even accept Bama at 4 and Texas at 5.  IMHO.

Who else? Total teams from other leagues? What’s your format?

No other leagues are permitted.  At the end of the regular season, the SEC starts a 16-team tournament to determine the national champion.  Other teams and other leagues play in lesser bowls for consolation prizes.

The committee can easily fix this by ranking Texas above OU, due to our recent performance against the previously ranked # 3 team and OU's dogshit performance against an unranked LSU. The nail in the coffin should be our pasting of OU.  That is how they can save face. OU also has  some issue with the wr room.
