Sark was just on Full Ride and he straight up said he would cancel the game next year if the committee does not come correct because he has a responsibility to the players and the University of Texas to put the team in the best position.  He quoted the bullet points on the CFP flyer. Amazingly Childers was all about Texas getting in, even over Vandy and OU. Neiheisal  said the committee has never looked at SOS and only looks at w/l. Sark did a great job. Even congratulated Neuheisal for his son's performance as interim OC at UCLA.

I'm glad he's doing the full blitz because you know this is stuff coaches really don't like to do.

it will be funny when UGA is #2 and Indiana is #3 tonight.  "See we take SOS into account! its not just W/L!"

Ultimately, we don't drop a game to a dogshit Florida team, we're in the playoff. Missing the playoff is a good and meaningful consequence for the team and Sark to have to come to grips with.

I mean, I hope we still make the big dance, but I wouldn't bet on it unless I got really really good odds

I think UGA and Indiana will be flipped but rest looks reasonable.  could be interesting if OM drops below ND or OU.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ole Miss get hurt but idk. Losing your HC and offensive staff is kind way more impactful than the Jordan Travis thing.

I am going to be listening for a change of tune in the media. I remember the FSU situation. One day everyone was putting FSU in the playoffs, then all of sudden ESPN sent out the memo that losing the QB matter, and the media flipped.

I think playing the best helps make a team better. We could have lost to OSU and still made it in if we hadn't lost to a Billy Napiers Florida team.

It’s crazy to think even if we would have beaten OSU or UGA that we would be left out because we lost to dogshit Florida.

We would be in top 12 if we were 10-2. Miami lost to two unranked teams and is still top 12.

They are just looking at losses. We are being penalized.

I'm not sure since in that scenario, we would be 10-2 and almost certainly in with a major marquee win like that? Definitely one of the stronger 10-2 teams in the field

Leaving Ole Miss out because of the coaching change would be far more controversial than UT being left out. I didn't agree with undefeated FSU being left out because of a QB injury but at least that is the most important position on the field and it can be reasonably expected to affect their ability to play well and win (although Tua and Gilbert might disagree). I often think people have too magical a view of playcalling, as if it's some magic ability that only a handful of people can do. The staff and players still knows the playbook. I'm not willing to say with any level of certainty that they can't run an offense anymore. The players earned their way into the playoff.

We be 4-1 against teams that would've been in the CFP top 10 since the ranking started. Of course we'd be in....

in the world of SEC the big 4 were Florida/LSU/Geo/Bama.  so teams and SEC  would try to get no more than 2 of those on the schedule.  aggy has been ducking Georgia for years because they argued for playing LSU all the time.  They got Bama of course some years.

FL and LSU being asswater is unexpected and OleMiss being good is unexpected historically.  the thing is Bama and Georgia are pretty much always good.  of course aggy complained enough that in 2027 and 2029 we get both.  the 26 and 28 we get LSU/FL.  Aggy of course never has both of them on the schedule the same year.

Bama's got an easy road.  their 3 permanent rivals are Tenn, MSU, Auburn.  Tenn and Aub can be very good(not great) but they are just as likely to be mid to asswater also.

A&M got Bama ALL the years. We shared a division with them. There are two former SECE teams we have played only once: UGA and Kentucky. Texas has played both of them more often in the regular season since joining.

Knowing when to call the right play at the right time and going off intuition of the game makes a huge difference that not every offensive play caller can do.

Florida was a big stubbed toe and hurt a lot but losing game 1 in Columbus took away our margin of error.  Both things can be true.  We're a casualty of believing the committee and scheduling tough.  Won't happen anymore sadly.

I do like that Sark is calling out the complete and I mean complete bullshit of the committee on what they say they rank on.  They are absolutely not following their own guidelines.  It's only # of losses.

PRINCIPLES

The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:

  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

i mean this is the actual basis for why many on this board have been calling for Sark to get a real play caller , extensive posting and analysis on head coaches winning championships without one

losing Kiffin is a big deal

They lost basically the entire offensive staff and they are not good on defense.  It should definitely be a discussion.

Yeah, some are better than others, and some are way better than others, but to assume that the remaining staff is completely incapable of running an offense to the extent they'd leave a one loss team out in favor of a 3 loss team (or even two loss team if we're disregarding tOSU) is just wrong IMO. I maintain that UT's chance is in comparison to ND and OU.

I know it is your opinion, but a head coach makes a HUGE difference. Now, you're trusting a first time head coach that was their defensive coordinator to lead a team for the first time during a playoff run with a green offensive staff to take on a leadership role they didn't have all year? Kiffin was the play caller and a major contributing factor to any offensive game plan the team did for the last 6 years. None of the offensive staff will be able to replace him. The offensive coordinator followed Kiffin to LSU. So, now a position coach is coming in to call plays for the first time probably in their career against top 12 ranked teams? Come on brother.

The committee will controversially justify whatever they spit up, and if for some reason it changes next week, they'll controversially justify that too. Don't get mad at Rece Davis or Joey Galloway or whoever for not grilling the guy like he's captured Al Qaeda. There is always wiggle room in their policies, it's always subjective and once its pares down to Ohio State, Georgia and a couple others, the rage dies down.

That said, I do think leaving Ole Miss completely out would be earth-changing for the committee (thus they won't do it)

Rankings, in general, are stupid.  They are also a criminally negligent way to pick playoff teams and national champions.  Fucking UIL does a 1000% better job than whoever is running college football.

There are 70 teams in the P4 plus ND, Oregon St. and Washington St.  7 10-team regional roughly equally strong divisions, regular season is 9 division games plus 3 out of division games that cannot be against teams below the second division (G5), top two from each division make the playoffs automatically, 2 at large spots for good teams that are third in their divisions. The two at large spots are determined by the highest ranked non-top 2 teams, thus preserving the polls for the limited purpose of picking the last two in and all the debate and shit surrounding that for those sickos who like it. $20M payroll cap for every team that increases 5-10% every year, NIL unlimited, but strictly enforced - has to be legitimate value received.  Penalty for NIL violation is automatic forfeiture of postseason.  The revenue sharing part would be the hardest.  It's either a graduated payout with the best teams getting a larger share or all 70 teams get an equal distribution.  I would probably do equal payments with fairly large bonuses for making the playoffs and winning at each round. The best teams will make the playoffs more often and have more revenue that way. One national signing day the second Friday in February.  No early enrollees.  Schools can't talk to coaches until after that coach's team's season is over.  Portal is open March 1st-June 1st.

Pick it apart.

Well, to be fair you have four teams from every Texas HS district get in the playoffs. That kind of eliminates any chance of error. We're trying to seed a 12-team tournament from 125+ teams. There are 247 Class 6A high schools in Texas right now -- 128 of those make the playoffs, I think.

Agreed. I hated seeing FSU get left out due to the QB getting hurt. They were 13-0 after all. I would've had no big issue with them getting in as long as it was FSU vs Bama for the fourth spot and not FSU vs Texas as we feared. Fortunately, the H2H with Bama appears to have been a factor but Travis getting hurt might've just given the committee the out it was looking for. It would've been criminal for Bama to be in the Final 4 and not Texas. The issue was that FSU getting in effectively gave somebody a huge advantage in the semifinal, if not a full-on "bye" to reach the championship game.

Also, if Ole Miss doesn't make it because Kiffin left that would be a goddamn travesty. In reality, Ole Miss's resume isn't that great. The one win of note is beating OU in Norman. The Rebels have played two games against teams in the current Top 25.

I feel like leaving Ole Miss out would also be good for CFB. That would make the powers that be really look into this situation. CFB needs to look to the NFL for guidance. I would love to see coaches off limits during the season. Saban went off on this topic recently.

Though I was far from objective, I had no problem with FSU getting left out.  At the time, only four teams got a shot at the playoffs, and giving FSU one of those because of a 13-0 team that clearly did not reflect the strength of the team at the end of the season would have been a waste.  The Texas/Washington and Michigan/Bama semi games were both competitive right to the end.  If FSU got the nod over either Texas or Bama, the semis would have been a snooze fest.  That's not what the playoff committee is trying to produce.

I've seen those discussions, but who would enforce this new calendar? The NCAA is an empty shell these days. It would require a new agreement of all programs to be bound by the new calendar and the more power schools aren't going to give up their advantage of poaching from other schools as early as possible for the benefit of the poachee programs.

Conferences and the NCAA. This is pretty simple idea that I think most people see as an issue. Unfortunately, nothing gets fixed in college sports until there is a major controversy

I did not say it was the job of the committee. I think most people had the ability to understand that enforcement comes from conferences and the NCAA. Perhaps I should have explicitly stated that for you and BOW.
