Leaving Ole Miss out because of the coaching change would be far more controversial than UT being left out. I didn't agree with undefeated FSU being left out because of a QB injury but at least that is the most important position on the field and it can be reasonably expected to affect their ability to play well and win (although Tua and Gilbert might disagree). I often think people have too magical a view of playcalling, as if it's some magic ability that only a handful of people can do. The staff and players still knows the playbook. I'm not willing to say with any level of certainty that they can't run an offense anymore. The players earned their way into the playoff.

What was Ole Miss before Kiffin? You don't think the head coach matters? That's literally one of the criteria for ranking teams.

Also, if Texas gets left out because of its 3rd loss, there is no reason for an SEC or B1G team to schedule tough non-conference games. They have enough SOS playing in those conferences. Why risk a 3rd loss?

Again, why would the LSU's of the world give a shit about harm to the Ole Miss level programs? Why would they agree to hamstring their own coaching searches for the benefit of the poachee programs?

I did not say it was the job of the committee. I think most people had the ability to understand that enforcement comes from conferences and the NCAA. Perhaps I should have explicitly stated that for you and BOW.

NCAA hasn't had real enforcement since the 80s. What are you even on a soap box about?

Agreed.  But be careful what you measure and reward.  Because that's what they'll follow.  The committee can change behaviors.

They are 130+ programs. Everyone has had to deal with this at some point. This is not just for head coaches, but coordinators. You would also have to look at portal periods and signing periods. Its kind of a mess. Nobody has thought through the system, but that is a much bigger issue not related to this thread.

The NCAA made all these changes and calendar, commissioners/ADs, etc have voted on them. So the people you're crying to do something have actually created this.

Well, to be fair you have four teams from every Texas HS district get in the playoffs. That kind of eliminates any chance of error. We're trying to seed a 12-team tournament from 125+ teams. There are 247 Class 6A high schools in Texas right now -- 128 of those make the playoffs, I think.

This is sarcasm, right?

Agreed. I hated seeing FSU get left out due to the QB getting hurt. They were 13-0 after all. I would've had no big issue with them getting in as long as it was FSU vs Bama for the fourth spot and not FSU vs Texas as we feared. Fortunately, the H2H with Bama appears to have been a factor but Travis getting hurt might've just given the committee the out it was looking for. It would've been criminal for Bama to be in the Final 4 and not Texas. The issue was that FSU getting in effectively gave somebody a huge advantage in the semifinal, if not a full-on "bye" to reach the championship game.

Also, if Ole Miss doesn't make it because Kiffin left that would be a goddamn travesty. In reality, Ole Miss's resume isn't that great. The one win of note is beating OU in Norman. The Rebels have played two games against teams in the current Top 25.

In both situations, I have a problem with the assumptions. That's not how sports work anywhere else. The NFL doesn't kick a team out of the playoffs if a key player gets hurt in Week 17. Its part of the broader conversation of the complete clusterfuck that is CFB.

Seems Sark and UT are serious about cancelling OOC games this year. This cant make the Networks happy. For the record here are the most watched games this year. Only this past weekends games not included.

1.  Texas @ Ohio St 16.62 FOX

2. Georgia @ Tenn 12.5 ABC

3. ND @ Canes 10.80 ABC

4. Bama @ Noles 10.66 ABC

5. Ou @ Bama 10.48 ABC

6. LSU @ Clemson 10.45 ABC

7. Texas @ UGA 10.43 ABC

8. Bama @ UGA 10.42 ABC

9. Miss @ UGA 9.79  ABC

10. Mich @ OU 9.67 ABC

Note* im sure Mich/Osu is on this list (FOX) . Maybe UT/ATM (ABC)

What I took from this. CFP/ESPN/SEC run CFB viewership and interest.

5 of the 10 most viewed games were OOC games televised by ABC

9 of the top 10 games were on ABC

With that being said im sure pressure is being put on the committee about this. They absolutely can not start losing Marquee OOC matchups.

here is my predection for tonight:

1.   Ohio State (12-0)

3.   Georgia (11-1)

4.   Texas Tech (11-1)

5.   Oregon (11-1)

6.   Texas A&M (11-1)

7.    Ole Miss (11-1)

8.   Notre Dame (10-2)

9.   Oklahoma (10-2)

10.   Alabama (10-2)

11.   BYU (11-1)

12.   Miami (10-2)

13.   Texas (9-3)

14.   Utah (10-2)

15.   Vanderbilt (10-2)

I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see this committee doing anything earth shattering

What I think is most realistic...but IF Texas sneaks above Miami to 12 we could have a real chance of a Bama/BYU loss allowing us to jump up to 10.

I just don't think they'll drop Miami because of the whole H2H BS.  Honestly ND and Miami should be lower based on their schedules, ND beat NO ONE, and Miami couldn't even play for their Conference title game.

Florida was a big stubbed toe and hurt a lot but losing game 1 in Columbus took away our margin of error.  Both things can be true.  We're a casualty of believing the committee and scheduling tough.  Won't happen anymore sadly.

I do like that Sark is calling out the complete and I mean complete bullshit of the committee on what they say they rank on.  They are absolutely not following their own guidelines.  It's only # of losses.

PRINCIPLES

The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:

  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

Yep all these are lies.  They're just going "wins/losses".

They don't care who you lost to, when, home or road, or by how much...they don't' care how you look, or how well your playing, or poorly, now either.

Just that little crooked number in the loss column.

One national signing day the second Friday in February.  No early enrollees.  Schools can't talk to coaches until after that coach's team's season is over.  Portal is open March 1st-June 1st.  Spring practices moved to start second Monday of June.

They moved USF to 2032 and already have FSU on the schedule for 2026.   ECU, FSU, Chattanooga.  Supposed to be a typical OOC schedule now that SEC teams only get 3 (1 P4 game, 2 cream puffs).

But will they manage to blow the game against FSU again?

Chattanooga is FCS just to remind people.

Honestly the committee should probably consider only record vs FBS, unless someone manages to lose to their FCS opponent.

It's not just the playcaller, it is damn near their entire offensive coaching staff that left. I would consider that easily as impactful as losing a QB. In no world do I believe Ole Miss should be left out of the playoffs, but you could easily argue the impact being just as significant or even more so.

Yeah people pointing to this fail to realize Bama had 2 P4s on their schedule this year. Sure both were awful but it's more than a lot of teams are doing. USF isn't P4 but when you have FSU, why not just scrape the bottom of the barrel for your other OOC? Bama still has 2 P4 teams on a lot of their future schedules.

Yes.

The real fallout will be when Bama starts cancelling some of the years they have overlapping P4 opponents:

2028 - Ohio State, @ OKST
2029 - @ ND, OKST
2030 - @ GT, ND
2031 - GT, @ BC
2032 - Arizona, @ Minnesota
2023 - @ Arizona, Minnesota

They need to tell ND to fuck off, and I have a hard time seeing them keeping Ohio State and OKST on the schedule at the same time.

He knows that. What this tells me is that ESPN really wants the committee to know how pissed they're gonna be if Texas is left out without a very good justification. There are some scenarios where they will grudgingly accept it, but they will be apoplectic if Tulane, JMU, and ND are all in

Because it was all done piecemeal through lawsuits and TV contracts.   There's no master plan, and the NCAA couldn't care less about football.  It makes more money from WBB than football.

They definitely need to get rid of ND.

CDC should be spearheading the charge for all SEC teams to cancel future series with ND until they join a conference.

Exactly.  Every relevant program needs to tell ND to fuck off.  If they want a gifted path to the playoff every year playing the service academies and other shitty teams for an incredibly boring regular season, that's just fine.  But if they want to play marquee games, they can join a conference like everyone else.

Some future games that could be cancelled if the committee says your marquee OOC schedule doesn't help you:

Texas - ND (we need to keep Ohio State and Michigan home games, we are owed them)
Alabama - ND/Ohio State
aggy - Louisville (unless they cancel the road trip part of ASU in 2027)
OU - SMU in 2027 (standalone)
LSU - SMU/ASU
Georgia - Louisville/FSU/Ohio State
