It bugs me that sportbooks allow betting on something that gets decided.  That doesn't have the randomness of a sporting event or race.

You can have inside knowledge about like a player being sick during practice, but it doesn't guarantee a win still.  Inside knowledge in this case...

Im getting excited over us moving up the odds chart. Means something is brewing. Just need to get in front of Miami and be top 12 and we can continue to campaign and torture ourselves until Sunday!

Nicole we cool, but I think you're overstating any kind of love we have for Sark. Dude is flawed, but he's had some great success too...not sure we should be trying to run him out without someone better lined up.

Not sure who you think that is exactly? No coach but Saban was basically perfect...not Day, not even Smart.

I don't have an informed opinion about gambling services and how they set odds, but wouldn't that be a reflection of how people are betting, rather than the odds makers having some inside information?

Money always drives the odds.  Even to form the opening lines, Vegas has private early openings and the money bet during those drives the public openings.

If there was a sports version of DEI then Notre Dame would not be making in ahead of Miami just because they are Notre Dame.

Look Mr Sexton. Up until October 2025 he was 2-8 vs top ten teams. We know we beat Vandy and Aggy since. So he’s 4-8. Other coaches before him have developed draft players and most would agree he took a lot of what Herman recruited and developed them. If we get in he would have had 3 play off teams. Our second year we were 8-4 hoping Rock Chalk would help us get to the Big 12 CFP. If we don’t get in this year he has 2 playoff teams at Texas. Don’t use AI to resume build for him. We were 5-7, 8-4, then two playoff seasons in a row and now this year where once again our fate is not in our hands. It’s in the hands of a committee.

3 playoff teams, Top 3 finish ('23), Top 4 finish ('24), 1 Conference Champion (Big 12), 1 Conference Runner-up (SEC), .704 winning %, Beat #3 Bama, #10 Michigan, #7 ASU, #6 OU, #9 Vandy, #3 Aggy.  Open you eyes.  He is actually pretty damn good and so is our program right now.

This… is actually a pretty solid and depressing analogy

The NCAA has done an abysmal job at protecting and promoting the sport but it’s clear that conferences and media conglomerates are doing much worse. Fewer teams taking bigger slices of a slowly shrinking pie can only be camouflaged for so long.

Money does drive the odds but it's not the only thing that drives them. Not saying you're saying that but it's a common misconception.

Books will absolutely move lines based on other information. And also the converse, that will also refuse to move lines despite imbalances in money coming in. They do not move odds to exactly split the money to guarantee a profit on every line.

No one wants to hear it or think about it but cutting half of the teams out of even nominally being in big-time football will not be healthy or sustainable for the sport long-term and should be fought at every opportunity. It’s a short-term boost that will lead to fewer people watching and caring about CFB, fewer HS athletes aspiring to become CFB athletes and fewer incentives for a shrinking pool to care about football.  These programs already exist on the margins. Not directly analogous but similar to the rise of traveling teams slowly killing off baseball as a youth sport for future generations.

As I’ve said, the inventors of the playoff don’t really like college football. If you like college football you want the G5 to be healthy and on sustainable footing. You want more D1 programs not fewer. Shrinking a sport doesn’t help it.

What? The G5 auto bid is part of what is fucking everything up. Why should an obviously inferior team make the 12 team playoff when it's supposed to be the 12 best teams?  If the FCS went away, does that damage the P4 and G5 teams?  Other than taking away lambs for the slaughter, absolutely not.  The G5 needs to be a separate division with their own playoffs and national champion.  That would add a level of opportunity and excitement that they don't currently have.  I would think it would attract more people watching and participating, not fewer.  The needs and scale of the P4 and G5 are too different to be lumped together.  That's also part of the problem - the current playoff system is a one size fits none solution.

You have a MUCH different version of "owning us" than I do.

yes they won those game, all credit to them.  But neither was a beat down.  As a matter of fact Texas dominated this year in all but the scoreboard(I know that's what matters) and we had OSU on the ropes in the playoff game until that screen TD before halftime.  And had the ball inside their 6 yard line down a score...not exactly "owning" IMO.

Which is stupid, because the ONLY reason they're on the outside is due to 3 losses.  They'll say "bad Florida" loss all they want but we could lose that game every year if we only have 2 losses at the end.

It's fucking it up for Texas fans. He is absolutely correct that removing it isn't good for the sport's health.

Not to mention it's not a real playoff if it's possible to go undefeated and not be in it. It should be all 9 conference champions with 7 at-large bids. No I don't think the Sun Belt champ would stay within 35 of Ohio State for at least a few seasons. But I also don't care.

Some of you guys are making the same argument that was made when the Premeire League was created.  It was the wrong argument.  Now I realize they have the HOPE of promotion in the other leagues but other than Leicester the hope of promotion and being able to win it all has paid off exactly once in 30+ years

There are underwriting standards they adhere to.   They don't perfectly split the money but they also can't set up positions against the money coming in.

Every SEC team and fanbase giving us shit right now for politicking so hard should be thanking us.

With a 9 game conference schedule next year and moving forward , we're gonna see even more parity and 3 loss teams in the conference. The other three P4 conferences are absolute shit, you wanna see some weak ass 10-1 or 9-2 scrubs get in instead of good SEC teams? FOH.

Only because they lost. But we all know it was true...OSU crossed midfield exactly twice, and once was due to Arch's INT.  They made exactly 2 good plays. The Long TD pass/Catch and the INT.  Total Offense and Defense all favored Texas.

But yes, in the end, the Loss matters.  But I will argue someone saying "owned us" when a 1 score win, both times, is simply proof it wasn't.
