Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs

No youbsrenmissingnthebpkintband I’m not sure if it’s because you are intentionally obtuse or what, but by definition SMU can’t be involved in a big non conference matchup like I’m talking about because nobody but nobody gives a fucking shit about SMU. Theres like 20 schools that move the needle TV wise. TV wants those schools playing each other preseason. Thats the point. Thats why the idea of punishing Texas for losing a 1 score game at Ohio State is absurd. Texas should be treated like a 10-2 team that scheduled shit teams for non conference purposes. This isn’t hard. Ole Miss doesn’t get in before us if they go 10-2 bc they scheduled Washington state while we scheduled Ohio state. That would be retarded. The TV people aren’t retarded.

Not sure how one can be intentionally obtuse, but OK. You seem to have this all figured out.

Regarding no 9-3 team making it into the playoff last year:  Alabama getting boatraced by a 5-5 OU team late in the season did them no favors.  Nobody knows how a competitive loss might have helped them, but that loss most surely did not.

I literally addressed that very point. So now who's obtuse?

That the selection of SMU over Bama in ANY way reflects a committee rewarding teams that don’t schedule strong OOC games OR incentivizes other teams to do the same, is asinine and just wrong.

there's your benchmarks

what rig12 team played an out-of-conference game this season against a team that has won a national championship (AP/1936 UPI/1950)?

which of those games were away games?

the best wins for all of the rig12 contenders have been measured and found wanting

start scheduling pX out of conference and then you can resume bitching

A weak OOC schedule for BYU is a fair criticism. Don't be crowing about Texas, though. You lost against the only good OOC team you played. (Points for scheduling it though.) The ones you beat? SJSU, Sam Houston State, and UTEP. Woop. Slow your OOC smack roll.

Holy shit dude. No. Just no. SMU got picked because of the loss column not who they played and then TV made a huge fucking deal out of “we want quality games- play 9 in conference and play big games out of conference and you won’t be punished.”
SMU isn’t capable of that bc they are a nobody that’s nobody cares about. Texas is. If they don’t take Texas at 9-3 bc of number of losses teams will never schedule up again. Son of a bitch this is not hard to understand in the slightest.

thank you for recounting our 2025 ooc opponents, which was absolutely necessary because only 100% of this board is intimately familiar with the entirety of each of those games

crowing?

congratulations on your 2025 campaign to date

being lectured by brethren is a rare opportunity in this forum, enjoy it while it lasts

i do want you to win out so you can avoid the duplicitous committee denying byu a legitimately earned bye or home game because if you lose you aren't getting either

BYU is a joke of a school and a joke of a team. Nothing but fodder and a cute little story. If by happenstance you make the playoffs, you will be out-athleted the first game and dispatched of like the frauds you are. Please fuck off from our board. You wouldve lost to OSU by 35 on the road. And Texas would skullfuck your joke of a team.

You argue in circles. I’m guessing you also argue at the mirror. Here’s a hot take, win games that are still ahead of us and nobody will give a flying fuck about your intro post. And if the Horns don’t, you can argue whatever your point is then.

If Texas finishes 9-3 and anyone with a brain is considering a non conference championship 10-2 Big 12 or ACC team over Texas then all it takes is a media leak needs to go out that Texas is considering dropping the Ohio St game and future Michigan and other noncon games depending on how the CFP poll shakes out.

Ifwe are top 12 but bumped for AQs in the final rankings, I’ll be disappointed but not terribly upset. For as much as went wrong against UF and OSU, if we finish 9-3 and *just* miss the playoffs, I think they’re a lot to look forward to in 2026 with Arch coming back.

This is where I’d be at. Upset to lose out one playoffs but things looking up.

I have been saying since the OU win that Texas “could” be on a 2024 Bama 9-3 trajectory (Bama was 1st team out last season).  Playoffs certainly not guaranteed at 9-3, but certainly on the table. If that last win is at home against an undefeated Aggies, that certainly feeds the committee’s recency bias. Eye test matters though.  Eeking out wins vs lowly Kentucky & Miss St certainly didn’t help the cause.  It’s unfortunate the final score vs Vandy yesterday didn’t end as convincingly as most of the game was.  Must play Georgia close if it’s a loss.  And line and Arch must continue to display improvement.  One more thing: playing and losing in the SEC championship game “could” be more detrimental to their playoff chances than finishing 9-3 and missing conference title game.

I see it but the resumes aren’t close. In this scenerio bama would lose completely compare to ours this year.

Good that it’s out nationally. Slinky helps us to be talking it up now.

Committee needs to be careful. If 9-3 Texas is left out, that's the end of competitive noncon scheduling. Especially with SEC moving to 9 game conference schedules.

Exactly. The best point made.

The thing you keep ignoring is that not only did BYU have a terrible OOC schedule, they also play in a weak conference.

You get less leeway when you play Utah, ISU and Texas Tech vs OU, Georgia and A&M. Don’t like it? Schedule someone with a pulse and get a win against a team like Ohio State which would give you leeway to drop another game.

Texas played the most difficult OOC game in the country and lost by a TD, context absolutely matters. You can’t ignore it because it fits your argument.

To be fair, the top conferences are far more stacked than they used to be. It's going to be really hard for anyone in the SEC or Big Ten to go 12-0 or 11-1 moving forward. Even though a Big 12 or ACC team may be able to compile those records, they won't be weighted the same for obvious reasons.

I literally said in my post that BYU's OOC schedule is fair criticism. I reject the premise that the Big 12 is a weak conference. The upper echelon can compete with anyone. ASU was this close to beating UT in the playoff last year, a team we should have beat last year on the road and it came down to the last play of the game. SEC and Big 10 have their dregs, too.

I would be happy if we scheduled a blue blood OOC. But will a blue blood be willing to schedule us going forward? We are capable of beating a blue blood, so there is more risk than reward for them, so I think blue bloods will avoid us OOC. I think we will get more like UT vs OSU (one tough OOC matchup) and then the rest will be OOC body bag games. You get credit for playing a tough OOC and then pad the schedule with easies. Not a direct criticism of UT, just what I expect to see going forward generally.

I also think the incentive for someone like BYU is to schedule easier OOC to rack up the wins in order to make the playoff, knowing that the only way in to the playoff outside of the conference championship is no more than 1 loss.

I do think FBS should not be playing FCS, unless there is a preseason type situation.

Just flip ‘em.

If Tech had played Texas’ schedule and vise versa what would the two teams records be?

I think Tech could’ve equaled what Texas has done and I think Texas could’ve gone 9-0 with Tech’s (Tech should have done so too) but for arguments sake let’s say an injury led to Texas dropping the ASU game

Having said that, NO ONE would be politicking that a 9-3 Tech would deserve a bid

And NO ONE would be saying an 11-1 Texas team wasn’t a lock win or lose the CCG

And that’s the rub.

We can argue strength this and schedule that but at the end of the day the helmet logos still matter - a lot

And I think 4 bids vs 2 bids makes that statement and acknowledges that tradition.

But 5 bids to 1 bid just seems like overkill.

It’s not like there’s zero recent history of the BIG12 doing damage in the playoffs with their 1 bid - hello Michigan

I don't think the Big 12 is necessarily weak, but this year's intra-P4 out of conference records sure seem to tell a story, and that story is that the SEC is tougher & deeper:

SEC: 10-2

BIG 12: 7-6

BIG 10: 5-5

ACC: 4-10

if it came to pass that we got left out this year because of our loss to fOSU, go ahead and cancel the next 4 OOC marquee games.  Now I realize that a bummer because 3 would be our half of home/home with UM, fOSU and ND…. But the fuck with it, we will see them in the playoffs

Big 12 , SEC and ACC - 1 winless team in conference play each

B1G - 4 (!!) winless teams in conf play

so yes, the B1G should be banned for beating up on really bad bottom dwellers!

They them got humiliated by Georgia. TCU winning was a fluke. Not a good example.

I don't give a flying F if the B1G only gets one team in.  I'm just pointing out that the SEC pretty much stands apart from the other 3 P4 conferences, so pre-emptive whining about 4 or 5 teams in the playoffs isn't really justified given on-field performance.

Just keep on cranking out that top tier D, sending the meditation girls to Arch’s room, whip Georgia and your enhanced juju will disturb the Aggies through and beyond the game in Austin, to be dominated by the Horns. We will probably step on our dicks and choke the OU game, throwing us out of the top 4 and SECCG.  Hell, maybe the networks and moneychangers can set up Texas v Bama in Tuscaloosa, or Austin.  Who gives a shit? Let’s do this. Bryant and DKR will be watching from above.

So hard that 4 did it last year (Texas, Oregon, Penn St, Indiana) and I'd guess we're looking at 4 more this year (aggy, Bama, OSU, Indiana)

November 15th is our biggest game of the year for sure.

Last year I heard the showing of Longhorns fans in Georgia was abysmal.

Hope our fans show out a lot more this year!

As in Atlanta?  No idea.

I've been to a game at Sanford Stadium (Peyton Manning, senior year).  I won't make this one, but I strongly suggest those of you who can go, go.  It's nuts.  Athens is an awesome college town.
