Bowl practice is going to give someone a shot to move up in the spring practice order.

Every rep counts.

There is always a camera.

If I'm a freshman or sophomore OL that didn't get to play this season, I'm kicking everyone's ass that I can, because there are spots available and I'm taking one.

Hell, if I'm a QB, I'm kicking asses today, because Arch is a headshot away from potentially clocking out. Hell, let me bust ass enough to sit his ass down at halftime for this real football game, because in January, I'll be in a vest and not even have a shot to climb the chart.

I swear, man... Some of y'all have the fucking losingest, weakest, presumptuous, entitled mentality about Texas football.

Get up and win the next rep. I don't care if it's in shorts and tshirts... COMPETE.

Embrace the game. If you love it, you won't turn your back on it.

Exactly. Great post! We need the practice! The writing was on the wall last Sunday we were NOT getting in. We all wanted to. The committee sucks and we all know this. If it came as a shock to anyone today, I am sorry. But damn. We were not getting in. We got a good bowl! Let’s beat Michigan and close 2025 on the best note. And practice our asses off plug the holes in the portal and focus on making the MNC. Instead of All Gas No Brakes the 2026 slogan should be No Excuses. LFG!

Ah well. Enjoy winter in northern Indiana Notre Dame. Our team will be having a party with a scrimmage attached to it against Michigan.

Win 10. Rank in the final top 10. Go practice being winners so you know what it looks like, instead of laying down to fucking Florida.

Train for success...and stop being diva ass bitches.

Fucking finally someone with a little sense.

Elite people/teams/programs don't adjust their effort or level of play based on circumstances.  That's the thing that separates great/elite from mediocre and good and it's the ONE thing Texas is missing - a culture of never EVER letting up.

If Arch Manning or Colin Simmons tears their ACL in a bowl game that causes them to miss most of (if not all)  2026 is the juice worth the squeeze? All to say "we beat Michigan"

Notre Dame is so bitch made. Christ. Don't want to play because...missed CFP? FOH.

Especially when you have teams like KState and others who made 6 wins but don’t have enough players to field a team and must opt out of a bowl. Many teams are on their heels bc of the coaching carousel and their HC being poached but cannot participate in a bowl. Notre Dame just needs to be forced to join a football conference or they can fuck off. No more special preferential treatment for you!

Let's test this theory. Without looking (I know you'll cheat) who won the citrus bowl last year?

Yes.  Risk avoidance is no way to go through life, not for winners anyway.

Exactly. I just lost any respect I had for Freeman. All of it. Canceling because you lost a CFP bid? You don't want 3 more weeks of practice? This is why they get complacent and lose to the Aggys and Cristobal's of the world. That's not even a hard fucking schedule, but they make it harder on themselves for simply canceling extra practices. Maybe, I dunno, join a real conference? You know, like everybody else who is in the CFP?

The players who are returning should give a shit. All except Colin Simmons, dude doesn't need to play in a meaningless exhibition game and risk losing next season like Jaylon Smith.

Every player who is going to the draft should just be starting working out for the combine now.

You realize players can get hurt during any game at any time. You feel it’s meaningless for all players or just special ones?
what weight do you place on Sark for Texas not making the playoffs? Do you feel if a team like Texas doesn’t make the playoffs they should not participate in a bowl? Do you feel this way for all teams who don’t make the playoffs? They all should opt out? Players can get injured in the first round of the playoffs or the second round also. Any round. Any game any time. And I do think you would agree that this team needs the practice.

There’s really no point in playing these non-playoff bowl games anymore. Neither team will be fielding anywhere near the same rosters that they did during the regular season.

There was no point to bowl games except for one for many years then two a few years ago by this logic….  I get the point, but it’s pretty much the top non playoff bowl vs another blue blood.

Hopefully sark prepares better for this game than for the OSU/GA ones. Sorry watching 20 dudes sit out and then have 3rd string play in a meaningless bowl game isn’t exciting. Glad young guys get to practice but this isn’t a matchup I find that interesting considering Texas played them last year and play them again in two seasons.

Spoken like a true moron.

Risk has to have an adequate level of reward to make it worth taking. Risk without a positive reward to consequence ratio is how stupid people go through life.

There's no reward to big timing some other non playoff team in a meaningless exhibition. There is reward to getting all of your freshmen and young players you want to contribute next season a ton of snaps in a meaningless game.

Ok this game just got a hell of a lot more interesting. Never a good idea to talk shit to people who live around a bunch of corn 🌽 go Hawkeyes. That should be a fun match up. Too bad it’s not in the playoff bracket. Both these teams are capable of causing some damage.

It would stand to reason that the CFP doesn't want to burn down the whole sport just to elevate itself. But we do live in the "fuck you got mine" era, so who cares I guess. Let's just fuck up the regular season and play dog shit cupcake teams to appease the Arkansas AD

Fuck the playoff Committee

What's the difference between this and the game before which they could have torn their ACL/MCL? Nothing. You.play to get better, and sometimes shit happens. We played with 1 RB last year and still made it. We played with 1 1/2 this year and we lost to Florida. Everything isn't linear. Injuries happen and they suck. That's why if they choose not to play (which is unlikely) I don't begrudge them for it. They have a future in the NFL. But what about the younger players? You don't think 3 extra weeks of practice and one more game will help them?

You can't play and be scared. You're gonna get hit. Every time you practice, play, whatever, there's that chance it could ruin football for you. It happens. Baxter is a good case to look at. He was on his way to murder people and he tore every ligament is body had to offer in his knee during spring practice. He came back, he's not at full strength, but he wants that chance that's in front of him.

Just stupid risk with nothing to gain. Simmons doesnt need extra reps 9 1/2 months before any real game is played again.

I agree that the bowl game is beneficial for the roster but should also be treated like an exhibition on game day. It's Sarkisian's job to use the practices wisely and keep the team engaged. In the transfer portal and NIL era there should be a lot of benefit to evaluating the roster for 2026.

Which is exactly why during the game the starters should get a quarter plus a drive before backups start getting snaps against a talented opponent. That is not something you can replicate in spring or fall practice. But, and this is the key because Sarkisian has sucked at this, once the younger players being evaluated are in the game the intensity has to stay elevated. They should be playing to win not just bleed clock. We have no idea what the heck our backups are capable of late in seasons because they are only allowed to run vanilla plays/schemes.
