Norris's championship is old news now. Very interested to see who nails the new regs and who completely boffs it.

Still don't fully understand the manual override mode (hi MOM!) rules but we will all see it in action soon enough.

My prediction for 2026:

A cheerful clown drives a red Ferrari on a scenic coastal road. on Craiyon

In 2022 I convinced myself it was possible Ferrari had absolutely nailed the new regs and Charles could become a WDC.

I don't even believe top 4 is possible this go around.

Yeah I'm not hearing good rumblings from anywhere with regard to the new rules. It'll be really interesting to see how this shakes out. Apparently all reporters, even team social media people are barred from attending the first test. If true, that's not at all a good sign.

It's that time again. 90 days til lights out ....

Umberto Maglioli's Ferrari 625 TF Spyder at the 1953 Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti. He finished 3rd.

I look forward to the horrible side effects that don't show up until they get on the track like porpoising did.

I would love to say it can't be worse than the ground effect bullshit, but f1 usually says hold my beer.

So I was staying at the Holiday Inn express and watched a Youtube video talking about ground effects, so I'm an expert now.

Explain to me in crayon why the new regs are trying to reduce ground effects.

Honest question out of ignorance: is that uncommon? I'd think just about every team and manufacturer would want to keep their first real-world test with new regulations as secret as humanly possible.

I expect the driver market to be crazy next year once drivers know the best engine and teams with these regs.  There's a lot of rumors heating up that Charles will actually leave Ferrari after 2026 if Ferrari struggles with the engine and the regs. His ties to Jules and Ferrari will always make it harder for him to leave Ferrari than probably any other driver and team, but he also has to know he'll be wasting his whole career on a team that will never get it together if he doesn't leave soon.

There's been a lot of smoke that Aston wants Charles, and they could be a real option for him if they get 2026 right. Then again, if the Merc engine is as dominant as some have rumored, Charles will probably do whatever he can to get into a Merc-powered car.

Cadillac...Audi...Toyota...new rules...return of Checko & Bottas...and what does Red Bull look liked?  Looking forward to a lot of chaos.  :)  Max is still Max, so if I had to put money on it, I'd say he will still be in the running for the driver's championship...  And can Hadjar break the curse of the 2nd RB driver?  And can Sainz & Williams continue their improvement and become a force again?

It may not be unprecedented, but I don't think it's common. I've never seen it happen in about 30 years. And they can keep it secret from us, but not from each other, and that's what really matters.

Yeah, I think the level of secrecy over the first testing is a clear admission these new engine regs, which led to such weak engines that they had to create ridiculous moveable aero regs so cars wouldn't lose power at the end of straights, are absolutely terrible. I'm expecting this to be quite a clown show early on, which should at least provide some entertainment.

We'll have to see how it plays out, but i think the moveable aero will be awful for overtaking.  Pretty much every type of formula car racing series understands that you need some assistance in overtaking due to the dirty air created by such aerodynamic cars. Indycar has push to pass, F1 had DRS. F1 already had issues with overtaking this year with DRS, and now they didn't just get rid of overtaking assistance, they actually went even further and made it significantly harder to overtake.

Moveable aero means even less slipstream on a straight because the wings will go to Monza-level and no car will have a huge advantage in the corners since they can all raise their wings.  Maybe the limited engine power means teams will choose to deploy in different parts of the track and that could create some overtakes, but I doubt it. All these teams are going to identify the optimal places to deploy and likely have almost identical mappings, just like what happens now.

The only real hope for much overtaking is one or two engines being significantly more powerful than the others, but that's a bad thing because it means about half the field will be completely uncompetitive.

OBTW, remember the other day when I asked how y'all would like a new V10 series?

So, how would y'all like a new high-level OW series based on, say, a spec V10 & spec chassis the first season, with teams able to develop them independently going forward, under a cost cap? And let's say that series was going to start in 2028 ....

Sounds like it has potential to me.

This is what I was talking about. Anthony Hamilton launching platform in 2026 to “celebrate the unmistakable sound of V10 single-seater racing.”

Here's the gist of what I was told.

Spoiler

- series will modify an existing V10 and chassis to more quickly get up and running by 2028

- beyond that the series builds its own V10 and chassis

- teams can independently develop within cost control budgets

(unsure if development pertains to just the chassis, or both the engine & the chassis)

Yep, and upstream someone referred to ground effect as bullshit ... but ground effect was re-introduced to allow for better following and overtaking, and did that very well until it was walked back because some teams couldn't get a grip on it. As a result, overtaking got harder again, and this year it was probably as difficult as ever. Now GE is being further reduced, and there will be no DRS, and a weak PU, but still heavier than necessary, of course. We'll see, I guess.

Predictions:

Alo, Ver, Nor.

Adrian Newey has had 18 months with little to do but think, study, and develop for the 2026 regs. If he delivers Nando a car, and I’m not betting against him, we’ll have another member in the Three WDC Club.
