thanks to @bigup2dahorns, i grabbed a reservation at that new taco madera place for early september.  sounds like it is kind of similar to comedor in austin.  has anyone done the mayflower supper club before?  birthday dinner for the wife and she requested it.  i am trying to steer her closer to guy savoy or le cirque but i have never been to mayflower so perhaps give it a chance?

My gf and I did Mayfair late last year, cool spot, and food was damn good. I would definitely go back

I watched an epic meltdown by some trust fund kid at roulette in Ballys around 2015.  This drunk ass kid who couldn't have been over 22 yrs old rolled up to the table and put a grand(i think that was limit...if not it was whatever limit was) on black....hit red....put another grand on black....hit red....no shitting you this happened like 8 times in a row.   He finally ended up leaving, but it was  an impressive smoke through of 8K

funniest i have seen was a friend of a friend in college who employed the Martingale system at blackjack.  lost 6 straight hands and was broke 15 mins into the trip; first table we sat down at.  was a ton of money to for broke college kids.  dude was hyper ventilating.

I’ll drop my host a note to ensure the Chandelier  bar is stocked up plenty on peanut butter whiskey for ya. Safe travels.

Nice, Killers always put on a great show in their hometown.

Dinner Reservations are swanky at é, L’atelier, Michael Mina, and Bavette’s.

Pool Cabana somewhere in there.

I hate all of you…

New parent life is driving me bonkers and I had to skip on a high-roller trip (more them than me) with PJ service out of Tyler.

I need Vegas in my veins and all I’m getting is my basement…

Enjoy!

I feel you, I have a young kid too. But luckily she’s old enough that I can still slip away to Vegas for a weekend (4x this year). So there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So, ended up here in Vegas on a last minute deal - wife was going to the Killers show tonight with a friend, I wasn’t part of the plan because of a work conflict. Her friend came down with COVID, my work conflict cleared, and I had a free day to give. So here we are, for the first time.
Maybe we should have read this thread, done some sort of “orientation,” or something like that….because we don’t get it. Had a great dinner at Lotus of Siam last night. Will probably have another good meal at Bardot’s tonight, and I bet the Killers put on a great show. But I didn’t think I was a gambler, and now I KNOW I’m not. And my wife even less so. For fuck’s sake, we can’t even figure out the slot machines. Seriously, nothing explains the amounts you bet, anything like that. We’re at New York New York (right next to the arena for the show). And the casino floor is depressing. Fat people on rascals smoking and spending their disability checks.
I blew a few bucks in black Jack. Fun enough, but no great thrill for me. I have friends who love it, and I’m sure a lot of folks on this thread do, it just didn’t give me a charge.
I’m thinking that if we come back to Vegas, we’ve got to come with people who know how to do it.
Maybe I’ll talk the wife into hitting a nice strip club after the concert. That’d be cool. :)

I don't hate NYNY for what it is (and I've never stayed there) and it has a decent Piano bar to stop in for 45 mins or so but not a place you want to spend all your free time.  Go down strip a bit and have drinks/people watch at Cosmo after the show for a little more upscale feel, see the Bellagio fountains at night, etc.  Don't spend all your time there.

First time to Vegas you need to venture out a little bit and go check out Bellagio and Wynn/Encore. You don’t have to be a big gambler to enjoy the town. Plenty of other entertainment between shows and concerts and clubs and the dining is outstanding.

Feel free to ask any questions here and someone will answer it.

Thanks. DEFINITELY think we’d be more of the “entertainment and dining” crowd than the gambling crowd.

Still….pretty sure I need to spend $2500 on these Prada kicks for game day:

This… very much.

We stayed at NYNY the year it opened. It was ok, but Mrs .  Brat prefers the Cosmo, Bellagio, and the Mirage.
But after 40 trips out there since 1996, we got burned out on the town before the pandemic.

The place has changed quite a bit since I first saw it in 1957.

Next time spend an hour or so learning the basics of craps. Most are intimidated but its basics are pretty simple. And it's so much damn fun.

Once I learned how to play I never got near a black jack table or anything else on the casino floor.

Best place to watch the game on Saturday?

Used to be a much easier decision. Now you have to factor in making a reservation and paying for a seat at most of the major strip sportsbooks.

With our game on LHN, and Texas not ranked, might be a lot harder to find the game outside of those big sportsbooks. I would start with the closest big casino to where you are staying and go from there to see what it costs. Check into it now, they probably sell out the seats

do you think that will be the case for the bama game since it is at 9am local time?  surely not.  i am going to be out there that weekend and am wondering if i need to make arrangements or if the early start will be the typical morning sports book ghost town.

Good question. I’ve only been out there once recently under this new regime for college and NFL games. I’m not so sure they implement the unwritten rules for chairs like at Augusta National for the Masters. Seems to me on these football weekends for Saturday and Sunday, they assign employees to monitor the chairs and will come ask you if you have a reservation. I don’t yet know that for a fact however.

The good news for the Bama game is it’s on network TV and a big game so your chances are much better that it will be on in other venues throughout the casino as well (in places that don’t require reservations and charge to sit there). Worst case scenario it’ll be on in your room.

I was unaware of the newer setup when I tried to watch Texas Vs LSU in Sept 2019 at Caesars. All the seats were booked. I couldn’t purchase one. So we stood by the bar area in the sportsbook and watched the first half there and just ended up watching 2nd half in the room.

Download the Ceasar's sports book app. Then go sit in Blondies and watch the games. Drink affordable beer; order pretty decent food. Joke with all the other sports fans around you.

Ok so I was curious and just called the Wynn sports book. They do have some “first come first served” seats in the sports book area at no cost.

So perhaps for the 9am kickoff if you got there just a little early you could grab one of those and be set.

thanks, dude.

i didn't like my backup plan of watching it from dino's lounge.

Thanks!  I’ve got a hookup at the Cosmopolitan, so I can watch the games there.  I was specifically asking about the Texas game since it’s on the LHN.

I think it’s like most everything else in Vegas, there’s a listed price to rent the seat and it’s probably free if you are a more highly rated player to the casino. I don’t think it hasn’t anything to do with making a few sports bets for the day.

You sure this is a de facto thing now? We paid for a section in Circa last fall, but we could have just stayed at Aria and gotten to the seats first before the games started, which is what we normally do, and stayed in those seats all day long and not paid for them. If this has changed, it's changed like right now. @SydneyCarton, can you call and find out and report back to the thread here? It would suck if we get there in October and we're fucked on sportsbook seating that Saturday, which is ostensibly, you know, why we go in the first place every year.

I am not certain on all the policies for each place, just the trend and what I saw in a few places.

So, I just called Aria and talked with someone in their sportsbook. She said most of the seats are reserved for VIP types who have a casino host. So you must book that thru a host apparently. Then she said they also have some “first come first served” type seating but it also comes with a food and beverage spending minimum (she didn’t know the amount yet). So that’s all I have for now. Just wanted to alert everyone to these trends because it caught me off guard awhile back.

I know this is a joke and I haven't been there in years, but Dino's is not a terrible place to watch a game.  I mean, I've watched games at much worse bars.

I also once got a ride at about 4 am from some random dude and his girlfriend in a beat up old Monte Carlo from Dino's to downtown in the pre-Uber days when we couldn't get a cab out of there. Seemed like a really good idea at the time. It's a miracle I wasn't chopped up into bits.

I'm on the phone with our concierge host now. He's double checking but he said last he heard it was still first come first serve.

Just confirmed first come first serve is still the policy. I put in a note to have our concierge call us if that changes.

Most are VIPs but they have some open seats. You have to get there extremely early to get them at Aria. As time passes, the number of open seats has gone down dramatically at every sports book. I’ve gotten so many different seat package emails over the last two weeks. Everyone is trying to sell the seats first. Last year it didn’t work. Most of the seats were empty. If someone tried to go in an entirely empty section, i would see them get kicked out quickly. Weird business model.
