Thanks guys. Spoke to the vet this evening. He's had his monoclonal antibodies, nausea medicine and an IV.  Apparently he's alert and has more energy. So that's a good sign.

They will call us in the AM with another update and then they have visiting hours around lunch where we'll be able to see him through a window.

I hate the idea that he thinks we abandoned him.  That part kills me.

When Blue was a puppy, I had to take her to the emergency vet. They though it might have been parvo, but it was a liver shunt. Anyway, she was there for almost three days. When I went to finally pick her up, they said as soon as I walked in the front door, she went ballistic in her kennel. Knew I was there. Don't feel bad. He won't hold it against you.

Will they allow you to bring in a blanket or toy that has smells from home on it?

Nope. Most of those things have to be bleached or thrown away because he got sick on them, thus the virus can still be in it.

We are going to throw everything away just to be safe. His kennel and bowls will be washed with bleach.  Going to have to take him to PetSmart for new toys when he gets out.

Just remember that he thinks you abandoned him when you go in the bathroom and close the door.

Mine give me woefully when I use the hand with which I'm petting them to reach for my coffee cup.

Same thing happened to my last lab at about 12 years old. She was given a shot and was better. I think we ended up getting her a couple of rounds of shots  She lived for about 8 more months. I'm glad we got that extra time together.

Went to see Gus. He's tired here but they said this AM he was barking at everyone. So I take that as a good sign.  Handsome devil.

I used to pee with Bailey every morning in the apartment dog-park.  It was convenient, there were bushes.  What?

Yep. Just got back from the vet.

He had his first real food and water last night and was able to keep it down so far.  That's huge.

If he can keep it down today they can start a 3 day dewormer this evening. So that takes us to Wednesday. Hopefully if he doesn't have any set backs we can have him back Wednesday PM or Thursday. We were hoping to get him back a little earlier but that's not gonna happen. Good news and just ok news.

He was actually walking around a little bit in his cage which isn't something we've witnessed. He was whimpering at us which was heartbreaking, as you can imagine.

They recommended that we keep him quarantined at home in a bathroom for another month. I don't think we are going to do that. But haven't decided yet. He definitely can't go in the yard. That's out of the question.

From what I understand, the virus will only be a problem on areas he soils. So hopefully we can stay on top of that and places he soils will have to be cleaned with bleach.

The vet told us that Parvo can live in the soil or surfaces for up to 7 years.  It's a dickhead of a virus.

Thanks for checking in everyone.

For real though, what does he do?  You can't just not let him in the yard for 7 years.

So he already had 1 shot and now this, he will have some natural immunity built up that most likely will be enough to prevent him from getting sick again but that's not 100%.

I still need to get some clarity on this, but what I think I understand is that while he's still shedding the virus he's more susceptible.

I've got a list going every day to ask them and this is going on it.

After his vaccine rounds he's good to go.

Ollie is 1 year old today.  We are celebrating by having a chat a little later with the vet about the red stuff accompanying his stools the past 2 days. My guess is his stick chewing habit resulted in some injury, and I really hope that it’s a rest and heal type thing.  He does not seem to be distressed.

They can and will eat just about anything.  At least the cat throws it back up.

The Gusser is back home. They called this AM and said he was doing great and if we wanted to give him his meds he could come home.

What a reunion. So glad he's back.

Thanks for the well wishes and follow ups guys.
