Online Books and deposits.

Looks like Bovada went the way of bitcoin only. The cc I have used to deposit there in the past is no longer accepted and redirects me to crypto. Sportsbook.ag previously went this way and prompted me to leave.

I'm not into cryptos and I have no desire to learn. I tried for the sake of trying to purchase some BTC and my bank account declined it as suspicious activity.

Any ideas? Can I still just deposit with a cc anywhere?

Disclaimer - long time sportsbook player, entertainment only, I dabble in $15-$25 parlays mostly with no illusion of making money and budget a few hundred dollars a year as throwaway entertainment gambling money because I enjoy it. I would like to continue to throw that money away without having to dabble in e-wallets and shit like that.

Far and away, the hybrid offshore book/local agent is the way to go. Basically, it works like this: A local guy buys a franchise from the offshore sportsbook. He takes on players, handles the paying and collection locally, and assumes the collections risk. In other words, he guarantees his players to the offshore. The models vary as to whether the agent's taking handle risk, or just acting as an agent for a percentage. You don't care about that, one way or the other. As a player, you get all the convenience of online play, plus the ease of settling up (i.e., getting your cash out of the book in the event you win), plus no cash upfront, and you pay/collect either at preset time intervals or at preset price points. It's all the benefits of an old fashioned country book, plus the added convenience of online play, 24-7. It's the nuts, man. They're hard to find, but ask around; maybe one of your friends who plays knows of such a deal and can get you vetted and included. They're damn sure worth the effort.

Thread necro.  I don't have crypto and have no real interest in it.  What is the cheapest way to bet online using conventional methods the average person has, ie. ACH/Paypal/Venmo/CC.  I have found some international books that will fund Mastercard deposits with a 4.9% fee but that sucks on top of the juice already built into the action.  First deposit free everywhere because of course it is.

Following this up is there a way to use a VPN to bet with a domestic book outside of your state?  I used a VPN out of Phoenix to try and use BetMGM and they let me create an account, fund the account (zero fees from PayPal or CCs) but then when I tried to place a bet they had me download some plugin that flagged me as out of state based on nearby by wifi networks.  So I could not place a bet.  Hilarious they don't do this at the account creation step or the account funding step.

easier just to find a bookie and do cash transactions.

That claim is highly debatable. I guess if you dont know what a BTC is or how to buy it, I might agree. But once you set up an account, it takes about 1 minute to do what HOTB suggested and the money is available to gamble with usually in a few minutes (maybe up to an hour). Years ago I dealt with bookies and meeting periodically to exchange cash, but bookies can be flakes and I can say with 100% certainty that using a bookie was not easier. Crypto and crypto transactions are available 24/7. Plus having access to a couple of sites allows me to check lines which can vary significantly on futures bets, and since most bookies now pay to use someone else's online infrastructure, they just become one more hand trying to take a cut of the action and you pay for that with higher juice, etc....

I will add that I don't know if its really important or not, but I add a wallet in between the entity I use to buy BTC and the online gambling sites. In other words if you use Coinbase or CashApp, deposits look like: Coinbase/CashApp->3rd party crypto wallet->Online gambling site. That way Coinbase/CashApp can't fuck with your account for sending money to online gambling sites, which is prohibited in their terms and conditions. I doubt the exchanges of the world are trying too hard to identify/block those transactions, but a wallet at blockchain.com is free and just means a couple of extra button clicks to avoid any hassle. Obviously on the return trip I use the blockchain.com wallet to send crypto back to coinbase etc... Blockchain has the same wording prohibiting gambling in their T&C's, but its basically a throwaway wallet and if they were to shut it down, there are plenty of other wallets you can find for the same purpose. Its probably been 7-8 years and I have had no issues.

Good info and that's fair if you are handy with all the crypto and bitcoin stuff. If you're an old or not into all that jazz, then just find a bookie you trust and meet them once a month. The several I have used were pretty straight up guys and its essentially a line of credit; he would roll over if it was ~$250 or less. I've probably met the guy like 3 times over the last 2 years - and it's never to collect LOL.

betonline.ag still takes credit card and direct bank drafts.  CC fees are high( ~10%), but they offer a "sign on bonus" of 50% that makes up for it.  Example:  deposit $100, get hit with $10 in credit card fees, but they credit you with $50 in "free play" money that has to be gambled a few times before you can withdraw it.

You can buy bitcoin really easily from Cash App and then send it straight to the online book.

So on this advice, and I appreciate it because I would not have thought of this on my own not having Cash App or any crypto, I got Cash App and tried to set up Bit Coin on it.  Holy fuck it's easier to buy an NFA item.  It refused to scan my DL.  Tried 4 times it didn't like one of my photos and would fail.  Never had a problem like this before, scanning stuff like a check,  QR code, whatever.  So they have an alternate process that involves scanning and uploading pics to a website.  You need front and back of your ID and then a 'selfie' with your ID.  And then it takes weeks for them to review your submission.  What.  The.  Fuck.  It never ceases to amaze me when people and businesses make it anything but simple for me to give them money.

I have no idea where to find a dude local that I would trust.  I had one in college, a couple actually (including one who burned me and the guys I bet with on the literal biggest winning weekend we ever had), but I've been out of that game for a while.

This was my original complaint.  All of the name brand offshores will take many different forms of funding but they are all weird shit I don't have or they have insane fees that do not make sense in the context of sports gambling when you already have to win 53% of your bets to break even on standard -110 plays over a season.  Also the sign on bonus they all do is a complete scam.  You have to be rain man to get any of that bonus back into your pocket.  What they will all do is waive the fees for the first time you fund...sort of like a free hit from your local dealer.

Despite every other billboard in the state being a draft kings/Fan Duel/mgm ad (the rest are all cannabis shops) and Kevin Hart being on my TV all of the time riffing hilariously about overdogs and underdogs, it is really nice being able to easily slide money in and out of two handfuls of books using a checking account, credit card, Venmo, PayPal or whatever. Is legalized gambling coming to TX anytime soon?

About two months ago, I found out through a buddy of mine that one of our local bars has pro and college football betting cards. A person can bet one game or a parlay (with point spreads). So, now I have a new addition to my weekly routine. It’s kind of cool to walk in on payout day and pick up an envelope with a bunch of cash in it.
