Atrio’s rooftop view at the Parrocchia is better than Quince and the food is outstanding.

What a shame. We did the tasting menu last fall and it was excellent. We were rooting for Georgie to get a star. It will be interesting to see what they do next.
These chefs can be rockstars. And they have the same problems.

Excellent documentary. Everything about it was well done and the story is very interesting to me (Gen X).

Was coming here to post that. Eight episodes, all very funny and good pacing. You could tell Tina Fey's writing was all over it. Legitimately funny.
Kind of a Big Chill for Gen X vibe. Really liked this show.
We are enjoying it. There is something relatable about all the characters and their relationship situations (even though, yes, they are all annoying) and there is a good balance between funny and cringy.
Although I see the comparison to Big Chill for Gen X, I can't compare the two because of the music. Four Seasons understandably sticks to The Four Seasons rather than period music, which is a shame.

We pay $75 a night for two dogs.
That's what we pay for 2 dogs, with house sitting, watering and all that. We get texts with pictures every morning and evening. And by monitoring doors opening and closing, we can see how much time she is spending with them, letting them out, etc. And it's great.

I live in North Oak Cliff, so.....
Hugo's is a small seafood place in Bishop Arts with an outstanding cocktail program (two Hugos opened it: one the chef, one the mixologist). We have already been twice. Small, focused menu. Everything is fresh and the execution (cooking or raw) is well done. Definitely recommend.
Pillar in the old Boulevardier space. It's very good food, but for those of us that loved Boulevardier, it just isn't the same. The oyster happy hour will always be missed.
Mayor's House is already a favorite. Turkish food in a beautiful space with actual Turkish staff, most are very good looking.
Jaquval is good and Trades next door is a great sandwich shop too.
Pane Nostro also in Bishop Arts is very good, but basic Italian. It's nothing adventurous, but the pasta is house made, the service is excellent and the atmosphere (especially the patio) is very nice. They moved down from McKinney, I believe.
Cenzo's. For you pizza lovers, this is worth a try. Great, chef driven pizza and amazing sandwiches. Family friendly lawn in a nice neighborhood spot in Winnetka Heights.

Did a treee used to be around there?
Yes. We took it down about 4 years ago. -
Something weird is growing on my Zoysia. It started small and is growing like a fungus. My lawn guy called it “hongo” (fungus or mushroom). It is rock hard, as in it would take more than a shovel to even break it up.
Any ideas?

Wasn't bad. Liked Gaga's musical performances. WU was good. B+ episode.
Pip was really good. The performances were great.-

Rec for Iguana bar was solid, for a nice evening out with wife. Dress up a bit. We just went for cocktails but the dinner looked good. After cocktails we went to Barcelona Tapas for dinner at sunset, highly recommend.
Another good rec was Elixir Mixology Bar. Tiny place, LGBT, very welcoming with super friendly hosts. Perfect place for great cocktails and good conversation. Highly recommend.
For an over the top chef's tasting menu, we went to Tintoque and it was awesome. Amazing atmosphere and service. Aggressive and interesting food based on regional recipes and ingredients. We loved it.

I am all those things. It's a combination of claustrophobia and control issues. I am the type that can be in an small, enclosed place but if I can get out when I want, I am fine. I can be a large, open space but if I am trapped, I start to lose it. That happened when I was called to jury duty and had to sit in the middle of row, knowing that I could not get up and leave.
I went to therapy for this a few years ago because it was become a hindrance to every day living. This included exposure therapy. She actually handcuffed me (in not a good way) and put me in the back seat of a two door car. It was awful. But I learned that all of this is really a false triggering of a flight or fight reflex that is inside of us. So, my mantra when it starts became: "where is the tiger?". All of that plus Lorazepam that I rarely take, but keep as a crutch just in case really helped. I can handle most things now and am fine on plane, but have to sit in the aisle. I still can't be in the far back row of an SUV without access to a door. I have not fixed that.

Bumping this. Looking for good tacos and interesting bars and places to eat in town. Any recent recommendations?
We won’t be getting in a car for a long drive away from our hotel to see a waterfall or anything like that. I’ve done enough of that and just want to chill. -
This could also be on the Big Night thread.
We tried Le PasSage on the Katy Trail, just off Fitzugh last week. It's on the first floor of a cool, very upscale residential tower, with a patio right on the trail. The room is really beautiful. Essentially, they assembled on all star team of chefs and front of room staff to create the best version of a Asian restaurant. They even got our favorite bartender in Dallas (George Kaiho, who opened Jettison) to create and manage the cocktail list. The food is Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Cambodian. It's not exactly fusion because each dish actually is what it is from it's home cuisine. We loved it. Service and atmosphere were wonderful. We shared the big fried snapper, with sides of fried rice and mushrooms, and it was perfect. We also shared the Pullman Plate as a shared appetizer. Years ago, this would have been called a Pu Pu Platter and it would have a hibachi in the middle. This was much more simple and it was a fine introduction. Next time, we will go for the more interesting apps. Recommend.

Looking for a Cancun AI for a family of 4 (18 and 20 year old kids) that has a good club nightlife scene and good beach. The boy has found the club scene at school and I’d like a fun club type scene onsite (while we sleep). The RIU properties seem to have this.
Willing to spend for something good.
Maybe Ibiza?Secrets Moxche is really nice and your 18 year old just makes the 18 and up cutoff. It is mostly a middle aged crowd, but there are usually college kids, bachelorette parties and all that going on too. The onsite club is really good and there are several other bars that are cool for hanging out. If you are a baller, level up to Impression which gives you access to all the Secrets resort stuff, plus the private, super upscale areas in Impression with Butlers and all that. The swimming pools are spectacular. The beach is ok (not the best in the area) but they make up for it with a huge white sand lagoon entry pool

Fajita marinada is still glorious.
What c man is talking about is you can go to the meat market area inside Michoacana and order that if you want to grill it yourself.
What I made reference to is the “restaurant” inside most if not all Michoacana stores, which would have the fajita ready to go, and can still buy by the pound. Look for one of the bigger stores to make sure they have plenty of food options.
Warning, some of those prices get pretty $$$ they know people will pay for that stuff.
They will also grill up uncut fajitas for you. When folks are coming over and I’m in a rush, that meat (cut at home) with a salsa and a pico, fresh tortillas and a cut up avocado (the best avocados are always at La Michoacana) is the easiest home run. -
RH for bougie brunch with lots of dressed up young women. Service is great; room is cool; pricy.
Turkish breakfast at Mayor’s House. Great place overall with terrific Turkish staff. The breakfast might not be their best stuff but it’s a different experience and fun to do with a group. $3 mimosas. And the Turkish coffee will get you going for the rest of the day.-

Bump. Looking for recommendation(s) on a family-oriented all-inclusive. 3 teens (13 - 16) plus the wife. Anywhere down the coastline is fine, within 90 or so minutes of the Cancun airport.
Thanks in advance.
Look at the Dreams resorts. Upscale, nice and family friendly.

Pizza Hut was always my favorite pizza as a kid and it still is. All those Friday nights eating it as a kid watching TGIF was good memories.
This. I do go on occasion to the new, chefy pizza places with brick ovens and curated ingredients, but can't go for too long without Pizza Hut. There is a taste that just takes me back to those Friday nights with my family. I miss those nights a lot.

We try to go once a year, especially in the Texas summer when we have to pack light sweaters. Don't let the "it's overrun with gringos" talk bother you. Yes, there is an expat crowd, but SMA is still very much Mexico and Mexican and it's fantastic. It's more overrun by pinche Chilangos.
Our favorites that we go back to regularly, are Atrio (prefer it to Quince for spectacular rooftop meal in the shadow of the Parroquia), the Restaurant, and Antonia. We sometimes break things up with a steak meal at Tio Lucas, especially when there is live music. Bovine was the new place we tried this last trip and it was excellent. El Pegaso is still great for straight up Mexican food. And, no trip for us is complete without a torta at Torta Mundo (milanesa de res o de pollo), a hole in the wall on Umaran down from the Jardin. A fun, guilty pleasure: the churros at the bar at Casa Sierra Nevada. The street food is cool, but you won't be disappointed by this upscale version. And, Luna at the Rosemont is good when we are there with people who are in SMA for the first time. The view is awesome and the upscale lunch is great.
This looks like a good list for a bunch of newish, foody places: https://www.timeout.com/mexico-city/restaurants/best-restaurants-and-bars-in-san-miguel-de-allende
For non-food, get to the Fabrica La Aurora for sure. You can spend a good bit of time there looking at and buying art and other design products.

“Trainwreck: Poop Cruise” was a well done, cringy , not too long, documentary of the Carnival Triumph - the ship that lost all power in the Gulf, resulting in pee and poop flowing through the ship. Absolutely horrendous situation.
