Not too concerned about the energetic and connecting with the yutes part, it's when Dad or an uncle (always an uncle) or even the recruit themselves compare Bakers resume against other D-line coaches that concerns me. We just lost the guy that already has a few DT's in the NFL and possibly two first rounders this upcoming draft...but he's using that to recruit to swamp tigah now.

If he's all that ("sources" giving him part credit for the dolphins dts) and alfred collins and co hold up to the run and get a bunch of sacks from the interior .... recruiting should get easier in the fall....

The hand-wringing on this thread is awesome.

I for one feel this board has the right combo of skepticism and homerism..... I was always in 'trust the coaches' and very hopeful of Gilbert/Maddox and Shawn watson and warehime/meh etc... and you realize even with all the resoucea of a big univ.. if the head coach is not objective and can't bring available resources to bear.... then what you see is what you get....

Tldr... Like most others have said here, no leading indicators of sure success... But so far, sark has had a much higher batting average than his past 2 predecessors...

Like the Dr pepper commercial am probably going to be cursing - in delight or anger - after our first 2-3 defensive eries against Colorado state....

Not really. Saban ran a system like a manufacturing line. He has written manuals for every position and many processes, so that he can plug any coach into his system. Now that doesn’t mean he doesn’t try to hire good coaches, or that they can’t contribute their own skills in his system. It just means that if he hires someone it doesn’t necessarily mean they are good. In his system they don’t have to be good. See Bill O Brien. See Wiggins.

    And Jay Valai..

I think we're fine at edge. There will be a vast improvement with the talent that's coming in (Moore and Simmons).

Yes but by that token hopefully mukuba and the 6 dbs who are all supposedly fast and can cover will help too... And asap if I can dream a bit more

You know how many old guys I know who send Sark and Herman before him and Strong before him and Mack before him physical letters weekly during the season?

There are two I know of. But I can't imagine how many the coaches get sent to them. Texas has a lot of old dudes who think their voice matter way more than it does.

I can only imagine the scathing letters CTJ probably sends.

Probably won't make it since it will be addressed to esteban

Agreed on the fan base portion.  Matt Campbell on the other hand has become quite a little bitch.  His antics I'm sure are easily looked passed by his fanbase but it's a really bad look to the opposition.

Never the one to have any info whatsoever... But in this case ... Per the big 12 refs, Campbell is the most annoying and whiniest of the coaches in the league.

I would agree.  Regarding RB, though, unless the NFL calls on Drayton and he really wants to go back to the professional level, I see him staying at Texas.  And Giles' job security seems tied to his coaching notwithstanding his recruiting shortcomings.  But what the fuck do I know?

See  at 2:32:25 or so. Reading the body language, seem to think an RB coach change is unlikely...

It’s probably just PTSD due to the last 8 seasons, but I don’t view Tulsa as a straight gimme. They had a bad year last year due to injuries, youth, and close losses. They’ve been a good G5 program and they bring plenty back. I hope we beat them by 50 and play everyone, but I won’t be shocked if the game is uncomfortable for a while.

At least we won't be facing a potent Sterlin Gilbert-led Tulsa offense!
