I think the defense can be better in 2026.
Phillips, Littleton, and Jackson all exceeded expectations. I have little doubt that those three will be sophomores in the mold of Hill and Simmons.
Smith doesn't have the pass rushing skills of Hill, but I think it's possible he could be an improvement in coverage.
As long as we retain several DTs and they develop along a similar trajectory as Collins and Broughton, I think we'll be salty.

Buddy, we're not here to join some country club and be surrounded by peers. To quote Herm Edwards: "You play to win the game." Right now the game does NOT value tough OOC games. There is no virtue in it.
Alright fine. Take the Indiana path.
Maybe some year we have a stacked team that would beat Ohio State and our QB gets hurt and we drop a couple games. And because we played no one tough, we move to the back of the line of the 10-2 teams. Who knows?
Disagree with that take.

No ifs about making the fucking playoffs. And intentionally making your path harder, when you already have a daunting 9 game SEC conference schedule is not beneficial at all.
yes they shouldn’t Los to Florida. No one debates that. But the also shouldn’t play OSU if they get no benefit from it win or lose.
If it's "about making the fucking playoffs" then we made a mistake leaving the Big 12.
And "no benefit win or lose" implies we wouldn't have benefited from beating Ohio State, which is an odd take.

Any argument that says "don't schedule Ohio State" would also logically lead to "don't leave the Big 12 for the SEC."
We would perpetually be a 10+ win team in the Big 12 with this coaching staff and NIL funding. But we left didn't we?
It's not just about the path of least resistance to the playoffs. Some people like to actually have good games to go to. Or to have a standard to hold yourself to.

We play Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, etc. non-conference because we're Texas.
We play those schools because we want to associate ourselves with the best because we believe we are one of the best.
We don't schedule those schools because we believe a loss to them technically won't be held against us, and it's just a gentleman's exhibition where everyone gets a medal.

The people complaining about the "not being punished for losing to Ohio State OOC" need to realize that we weren't punished. All season.
After we lost, we were the highest ranked 1 loss team (ahead of Clemson). After we beat OU, we were the highest ranked 2 loss team. After we lost to Georgia, we were the highest ranked 3 loss team.
That's what that means. "Hey we'll move you to the front of the line if you schedule the big boys." It doesn't mean "hey we'll rank you ahead of Ohio State and act like the game never happened."
Kinda disappointed that we're as whiny as South Carolina and Bama were last year.

In no season from 1900-2023 would a team who lost 3 games feel angry about not getting to play for a championship game.
We were all rooting for the scenarios, but it didn't happen. We all realize this team can beat half the playoff teams, but the cards didn't go our way.
It's dumb and excessive that 12 teams get to play for a championship anyway. A point illuminated by the fact that we might have both North Texas and JMU simultaneously in the playoff if Duke wins next weekend.
Gotta let it go at some point.

Props to Lefau for stepping up with Hill being out and Smith missing the first half.
His play on the 3rd and 1 stop was incredible.
It's very pleasing to see the way PK shows up against Ohio State (twice), Georgia (once and a half), Oklahoma (3/4) and A&M (twice).
Dude gets his guys ready for big games.

I understand all that, and it is a truly lopsided trade, I just think the Lakers need to have some success with Luka before it is cemented in the #1 spot. The Celtics and Thunder both got their key pieces to championships from those trades. Neither of them win those rings without the trade, and both have the opportunity to win more in the future. I think Luka needs to be successful in LA before it is certainly "the worst trade of all time."
Seems like you're talking more about what makes the best trade of all time rather than the worst trade of all time.
It doesn't require Luka to ever win anything for Mavs fans to be justified in saying this trade destroyed the franchise. Most people I know stopped watching the Mavs. The trade ended 24 straight years of loyal fan support.
It's the worst trade of all time because it almost literally destroyed a franchise.

Arch taking off is the only running threat we have against UGA. Baxter and Wisner will immediately get hit in the backfield due to no blocking upfront.
Georgia has very few tackles for loss. This is the worst Georgia defensive line since Kirby has been there.
You're still probably right.

The interesting thing to me is I've already heard talk about a 9-3 Texas team being in from Herbstreit, Ryen Russillo, and Todd Mcshay. Last year people hyped up South Carolina a little too late, and people had dumped on Alabama before the hype train could commence.
This time it seems like pro-SEC types are anticipating the 9-3 team ahead of time. They don't want a repeat of last year. That goes for OU as well.
Scenario 1: beat Georgia, I think we move up to #6 or so. Stomp Arkansas. Lose to A&M, probably drop to #10.
Scenario 2: lose close to Georgia, probably drop to #17 or so. Stomp Arkansas. Beat A&M, move up to #10.
Personally I'd rather just imagine a world where we go 10-2 because why suffer twice by worrying?
Even Joel Klatt is saying 9-3 Texas is likely in. That's not a pro-SEC voice like the other ones I mentioned.

That looks freaking stupid.
Also, the people being pedantic about the historical accuracy of a story with a cyclops, giants, and multi-headed sea creatures might as well tell us that the Sword In the Stone would look different than the Disney cartoon or Robin Hood wasn't actually a fox.
"This definitely changes the game for dudes no one wants to speak to at parties."
