Rumor seems to be that Ibis is moving to a new facility that will include more mfg.  Still, I don't know why it would just be the AFs.

And, like most everyone else, they just raised the price and added container shipping charges.

    Weird.

They have moved to a new facility, not sure where or how big. My son and I were in Santa Cruz a couple of weeks ago and stopped by the Santa Cruz factory for a tour and beers with the staff, then popped over to the Ibis HQ a block over but it was empty and had a big for lease sign on it

  2. Did not know that, but it makes perfect sense.  Its namesake lives in my neighborhood and I’ve watched him ride up the thing from the bottom and then turn and huck off of it.  Good kid though.   He told me to be on the lookout in a few weeks for some new stuff they’re building.

Well, that’s what I hear everyone call it. My older son came up through the NICA circuit with him and they still ride together occasionally. Good kid indeed, he’s always up to something. I guess we will have to wait what they are working on

I suspect most people in Ravishing's "shoes" have yet to figure out what type of riding they want to do or what's on the local trails to ride.

If you are an adult BMX/dirtjumper/parkbike kind of guy, it might be worthwhile to go ahead and spend the money on a big bike.

I get that, you are probably right.

I rode BMX in the 80's but last year when it came to buy an MTB I wanted a hardtail, but figured I would ride more aggressively as I got my legs under me, so I got a slacked out bike with a bigger fork. My two boys race XC and both have hardtails that work just fine, and will for what most riders are doing around here.

I've yet to ride anything here in central Texas that requires anything more advanced, other than personal comfort! That could change if I decide to do some enduro races...or that new line and drops at RPR.

  4. It also has a lot to do with the style of riding you imagine doing. If you think you are going to get some air and ride hard and fast, look for a hardtail with a geometry that fits that style like the Nukeproof Scout/ Marin San Quentin / Santa Cruz Chameleon. If you are going to ride more climbs and keep it pretty low key, get an XC geometry like the Trek Marlin/Xcaliber, one of the Giant hardtails like the Fathom, Santa Cruz HiBall, or look into a bike from Scott.

A good air fork and 12 spd groupset will go along way. SRAM SX eagle will get you started, but NX/GX eagle will be more dependable over the long run.

Keep in mind, the best bike is the bike you have, so make the most of it!

  5. Assuming he had already been bought out and it was under different ownership because I fail to understand how the Chuy's fortune couldn't keep Shady afloat.

They sold Chuys three years ago and I think shady had recent new owners as well.

  6. WTF? Shady Grove closed. That was a very unique Austin place I loved.  The soul of Austin of old is pretty much dead anyway but this kinda made me sad.

I did some design work with Mike Young this last year. He started Chuys, Hula Hut and Shady Grove. He got out no too long ago and started a whiskey company, Milam and Greene. Shady took a big post Covid hit and had to shutter.

strong fist post! legacy user - little reason for someone to burn a sock they have had this long over this topic...so no reason to doubt him from that standpoint

Not a sock, just don't opine on anything I don't have expertise in. Interestingly enough have found something to contribute to in this saga.

  8. First post after many years here and on shaggy.

Actually have some experience in the curtaingate realm and want to believe he's in. As an architect who has worked with Double Tree here in Austin and for a short time with the Natiivo team at 48 East Ave in in Rainey, mid to high end hotels intentionally do not use the same interiors as other locations (especially textiles). The idea is to create a specific brand for each destination. Holiday Inn or budget chains certainly carbon copy those specs, but I would think HSB would have it's own designers input. Masterful sleuthing last night.
