Good finds. Those are fun to read. I admittedly don't follow too much until they get to Dallas. Any of the other guys discussed still in our future, or have they washed out already?

Grushnikov was paired with Petrovic as the top defensive line for the Texas Stars for 2/3 of the year.  He was traded to the Calgary organization as part of the Tanev trade.  Decent on defense, but Dallas seems to have gotten the best of the trade so far.

In Texas, as of 2021 (last year for which I see good date), agricultural irrigation was 53% of our water usage.  And something like 75% of the ag water was groundwater, much of which is from non-replenishing (or so slow as to be functionally non-replenishing) aquifers, like the Ogallala in the panhandle.

There's plenty of water: it mostly falls in the eastern third of the state.  We just have to catch it.  And transport it.  There's also lots of water in the ocean.  We just need to desalinate it.  And transport it.  Our problem is that we've exhausted almost all of the cheap options.  We're working in the next layer of options that are more expensive, but not brutally so (re-use permits are going crazy now; aquifer storage and recovery is coming soon as well).  But that will only get us partway there.  Yes, conservation has to be a part of it.  But even then, that has its own problems.

Specifically, the cost of securing supply and building infrastructure goes way up.  So, the base cost for water for everyone has to go up.  Meaning that Joe Suburb, who used to use 6,000 gallons per month and pay a water bill of $40, now uses 4,500 gallons per month....and pays a water bill of $60.  He's using less water, and paying more.  Because most people don't realize that you really aren't paying for "the water I use."  You are paying for the means to capture and have adequate supply, and the infrastructure to deliver it.  But 99% of consumers don't get that.  They get the simple math: I'm using less, and paying more, and that's bullshit (it's attractive math, I give you that).  Water is an increasingly scarce resource -- laws of supply and demand tell us that its price will go up.  And those laws are being followed, and will continue to be followed.

At the same time, unbelievable amounts of water are being just flat wasted by lack of system maintenance.  It's estimated that the City of Austin lost 6.9 BILLION gallons (roughly 21,175 acre feet) of potable water to leaks in 2022.  I'm sure that number is increasing year over year as the system ages.  Found a source from the LCRA that City of Austin and Austin Energy water pumped from the Colorado River plus other water rights was 185,548 acre feet in 2022.  If those numbers are close, you are looking at over 10% loss.  I freely admit that I really don't know shit about fuck except I know Austin loses a lot to leaks.

I'm sure it's the same for cities everywhere and I understand that you'll never be leak-free, but at some point, this issue has to be addressed.  I think very few people know/care about the extent of waste from this area alone.

  3. There have been numerous home games where the refs look like Big XII rejects and not in the Stars favor. They called icing on the Stars on a long dump that the Star forward was a step ahead of the defender. Of course, the Stars have taken a huge step back to the middle of the standings

    Whats with this AHL trade?

Seems like a straight up swap in regards to age and production.  Damiani hasn't really progressed with respect to Dallas, maybe trying to change things up and see if Pettersen could help Dallas in a pinch?

  5. The miss on Stankoven was me.  I really thought he'd have more trouble with the size/speed combo of the defenses at the next level.  He seemed to struggle when teams got physical with him while in Cedar Park (Texas really feasted off of the early season crappy teams, so it didn't happen often).  He was able to skate away from some of it, but I thought he'd have trouble finding the space with the "big boys."  Turns out, not so much and glad to be wrong.

With him gone, Bourque's production has dropped off a cliff...same could be said for the rest of the team though as well

Suppose to be getting this guy delivered Friday afternoon

Great pellet grill.  Just make sure the heat plate is in correctly when you break it in.  Mine was delivered with the plate upside down (edges should tilt up) and I didn't realize it.  Could not figure out why the temperatures were so out of whack.  Customer support got me straightened out quickly and I'm sure with much snickering after I hung up.

I just tore up my front yard to put in a driveway. We had St A and I was considering making a change. The problem is I start looking at cost. I would need roughly 21-24 pallets to cover the area I really want done. I could get away with St A and only need 10 pallets (there is still some st a alive I believe). My backyard is all St A as well but I’m going to hold off until I put in a pool. The driveway went over budget, so I’m trying to keep costs in check. Could I seed and be successful with Bermuda?

I’ll add that my sprinklers run off a well so if I need to water heavy to start that’s not an extra expense.

I would suggest a hybrid bermuda as opposed to straight bermuda.  The drawback is that many don't grow via seed, so you have to sod them, which you've already seen the price.  They tend to be more traffic and drought tolerant (at least according to what I read on the internet).  I have TexTurf 10 and watered once a week during the drought.  The yard was finally starting to brown when the heat broke and I mow it fairly short with a powered reel mower.

I'm very far from an art afficionado, so I'll have to ask for some help with the subtleties of a master

    Does it say "snot"?
