  1. Watched tonight and found it interesting. Not sure if “enjoyed” is the right word but I was glad I watched it.

Kinda predicted the ending within the first 30 minutes. Perhaps because I recently watched Safety Not Guaranteed where a similar crazy person turned out to not actually be crazy and I felt this could be one of those. It was as still entertaining.

the simulation seems to have added the scientologists as a last minute checkout item.

Perhaps a little bit of Scientology Nationalism is a good thing to prevent Christian Nationalism from having too big of a market share?

Really the only things I've seen are multi-day packs at places like A-Basin or maybe "cheap" rates at smaller mountains but if its an Epic resort, you're pretty much fully screwed.  Even their friends and family rates are pretty absurd.

My default destination is Telluride (not Epic) so I normally don’t pay attention to the Epic stuff, but this year we wanted to mix it up and we’re skiing with some friends who are Epic Pass holders, so that was part of the criteria.

Knowing that we would choose an Epic mountain for our friends’ sake, I booked an Epic Day Pass for 2 days at a rate of $146/day, which was a slightly higher rate because I included holidays (not yet knowing location or dates). We landed on Breckenridge over MLK weekend, which is now showing $289/day, so that was almost a 50% savings. It also saves me 20% on gear rentals and saves 30% on lessons for my daughter. I consider that a pretty big win.

There is a deadline in early December for booking the Epic Day Pass, but something to keep in mind for any of you next year who want < 5 days skiing at an Epic mountain.

  4. Here are the top ten diplomatic wins of 2025. Coming in at 10 “renaming the institute of peace after Trump.”

What about Liberation Day? The tariffs are generating so much money for the American people.

What about following through on the campaign promise to finally release the Epstein files and expose those scumbags Clinton and Gates? That’s a major accomplishment.

What about getting Erika Kirk back on the market so JD Vance can get a partner with a more suitable fabric color?

What about getting the economy to record highs and ending the affordability hoax?
  5. The question is whether you'd sell out, for a significant amount of money, a significant amount of your autonomy. The best argument I've read so far in favor of selling out is that the extra money enables you to retire sooner. But think of all the time you lose every day, getting ready for work, wasting downtime at the office, commuting, and how much more productively you could be using that time, including on activities whose revenue could far surpass the additional $120k that would be earned via the paycheck.

Where did the premise say anything about selling out your autonomy? I would interpret it as you are putting in the same amount of work from home that you would in the office, and that your professional autonomy is essentially equal.

With regards to the 5 hours you are supposedly saving by not getting ready for work and commuting each day, I think it’s a fairly big assumption that most people would fill that time with productive personal activities. Some people would, especially those with demanding schedules who struggle to balance family commitments and personal interests and are highly motivated to make both work. But I think a lot of people would simply sleep more or waste time doomscrolling their phones.

Meanwhile, the extra $120k could easily cover time saving expenses like a landscaping service, housekeeper, meal prep, etc.

  6. I posted a sarcastic response because we're sitting here with a POTUS who's been accused of rape about 20 times, charged with felonies almost 100 times, convicted of some of them, been caught lying literally thousands of times, etc, but JD Vance is unelectable?

It’s probably the couch thing. It’s well known that JD Vance likes to have sex with couches, and that oddity might be okay because lots of people have weird kinks, but most of those couches were less than 8 years old, which even Megyn Kelly would agree is a bridge too far.
  7. Guess I'm in the minority here but I really liked that episode.

Same. I apparently have different TV tastes from some of the posters here.

I spent too much time pausing and consulting Google maps and looking at photos and other random shit from the checkpoints on his route.

Enjoyed watching Carol finally take some time to fuck around.

  8. I wish Carrol would ask them why they don’t kill things.

I wish she would ask them:
-where did the genetic code for the virus originate? who or what created it?
    -what is their end game?

Pretty basic big picture questions that might help her understand what type of adversary she is up against.
  9. She was a bitch two weeks ago too. And a bitch 5 years ago at the ice hotel.  She’s a bitch.

Interesting to read these takes. I’m definitely team Carol. Maybe she’s a bit of a bitch but the situation kinda calls for it. I like her bitchiness.

There are other shows where I can’t stand a main character that other viewers seem fine with and that usually ruins the show for me, so I get it.
  10. I was wrong, it is humans.

Based on the ratio of dead people (~1 billion) to remaining live people (~7 billion), the average corpse would feed 7 people for how long? Assume average body weight of 180 lbs and ignore for a second the corpse has a lot of water weight, that’s 25.7 lbs of tissue per living human.

Perhaps they are supplementing it with other dead animals or another nutrition source because that wouldn’t last very long. And then what happens? Start sacrificing the critically ill?
  11. Otherwise this episode was real slow and uneventful.

Sort of disagree. I think this is the expected pace of this show, which will gradually set the stage for this bizarro dystopian world, and the viewer gets to contemplate the problem through Carol’s eyes.

The story advances by revealing small bits of information about the conflict, rather than major action sequences. Last episode, we learned that they cannot lie and their condition is likely reversible. This episode, we learned that they are willing to withdraw for either emotional reasons or their own safety, and that they most likely consume the dead.

I think that’s the expectation for the average episode.

in our timeline russian subs don't get lost anymore - even with red october 'caterpillar drive' technology, should it exist, and should it be operational - the 5 eyes alliance knows where they are and at what depth at all times

The minor frustration I had with that part was that everything moved a little too quickly. The pres and VP were have a late night discussion about strategy, then by the following day, the sub had already been photographed and the weapon retrieved.

It also seems a bit foolish that the pres and VP would think they could pull that off and somehow keep it a secret. Callum was immediately aware that something had happened. Didn't they realize that the very same intelligence sources that alerted them to the presence of the sub in the first place would also be capable of knowing the weapon had been moved? When it comes to rebuilding trust, they just keep digging that hole deeper.

  13. Searched and didn’t find a thread, just sporadic mentions in the Netflix meta thread (which is awful for discussion). The show deserves its own thread.

Season 1 trailer provided for anyone unfamiliar with the show who might be interested in starting it. There are 3 seasons available now, so probably best not to read beyond this point if you haven’t seen all of them.

Curious what others think. I like the show quite a bit and think a lot of the characters are well written. Especially like Stuart, Eidra, Dennison, and Todd Penn.

I get a little tired of Hal at times, but I think that’s supposed to be the case. Kate and Hal seemed to have a dead marriage from the start that existed purely for political and career reasons, so I enjoy the show more when they aren’t forcing themselves to be together and the other plots can be front and center.

The second half of season 3 was great. The coverup hits a little close to home with the current political landscape, but I enjoyed the different characters’ involvement and some of their reactions and moral struggles with it all (or seemingly lack thereof).
