I posted this on another thread but.... It's everybody and everything. Just watch the first few series.
1st and 10- We walk out and gaze over at 9 in the box right away on the first snap. Sark rightly calls a pass with an away breaking route to the receiver we have that can always get sep on the break. Worthy breaks and is open, but instead of just catching the ball he unnecessarily jumps backwards to basket catch it which creates room for the DB to make a play on the ball. Incomplete.
2nd and 10- We run Bijan off the edge with pin and pull. Bijan just needs to run hard to the sideline and he probably gets 7. Instead he stops and tries to cut it back inside and that allows the DB flying in to wrap him up.
3rd and 7- Rojo on the jet sweep avoiding the heavy box. Conner gets cut downfield which should be a penalty but whatever. Rojo picks up a quick 5.
4th and 2- Direct snap to Bijan with Rojo as a lead. There is a moment where if Bijan just hits the hole he picks up the 1st. However, he tries to bounce it and gets tackled short.
Second Series...................................
1st and 10- Wildcat and we collapse the left side where we had pulling linemen. For whatever reason Rojo decides to keep even though his keys said to hand it off. No gain.
2nd and 10- We drop back and throw an absolutely catchable ball to Worthy that he gator arms and goes straight through his hands.
3rd and 10- Ewers gets his clock cleaned.
Third series.....................................................
1st and 10-Bijan straight ahead to get some room when we were backed up
2nd and 8- backed up on our 3- We pull Sanders as a lead. Bijan starts to follow him and likely would've picked up 2 or 3 hard and needed yards. Instead he tries to bounce back to his right and gets tackled for no gain.
3rd and 8- We throw to Sanders on a skinny post. Ball is low but catchable and he drops it.
Momentum and confidence are a weird thing. We have a bad route and drop, a rb playing hero ball, a missed call, then back to the rb playing hero ball. Punt. Then another rb playing hero ball. A receiver drop because he is scared of contact. Then your right guard got mauled and got your QB killed on the second series. 3rd series you have a workman like run, then hero ball by the rb, and then a dropped ball on 3rd down. At this point QE hasn't been perfect but we can win with this version of him. However, you can see his confidence leaving him. With each bad play and drop he is holding his helmet. The play calls up to this point aren't bad just everyone is fucking up. No one can seem to make a play when a play needs to be made. No matter the call. It's very hard to watch. Young guys struggling and older guys who can't pick them up. Loser mentality handed down from generation to generation of Texas football players.
You make a great point that I was thinking about on my drive home from the game. This team more than any other I can remember completely relies on momentum. When we lose it, we shell up and look like shit. When we have it, everything is clicking on all cylinders.
The issue last night is that we did not call enough plays to get momentum on our side. Calling deep shot after deep shot that goes incomplete sucks the life out of the players and the fans and puts us in these 2nd and long/3rd and long situations that we are historically horrible against.

Im going to just vomit my thoughts here as a vent/therapy session - feel free to read or move along
1. The emphasis to Worthy has to stop. Its clear he is not the same X from last year. Sophomore slump, whatever, idk what it is.. but the deep bombs are not working. Move him to the slot and put someone else outside. The timing, the effort, everything is off. He is still a bad ass, but these deep bombs into quadruple coverage where X barely even tries to make a move on the ball KILL our drives. Please stop. J Whitt should be target #1. Then JT. Then Worthy underneath.
2. The THIRD punt block attempt was idiotic. It absolutely lost us the game. I understand why we did it, but Sark needs to read the fucking room. We got lucky with non-calls or lesser calls on the first two attempts. Our offense FINALLY had a good drive. Our defense gets the rare 3-and-out. Then we go take a stinky dump all over it with that stupid fucking call. DO BETTER.
3. I cant put all the blame on Quinn, but like 85% of it is on him. I dont think he got any help from WRs or playcalling, but his vision was terrible last night and cost us at least one TD that I know off (wheel route to Bijan). We cant just give up on the kid, that would be horrible for us. But Sark should realize when Quinn is in a funk sooner and make the change. Gundy benched his own flesh and blood yesterday, yet Sark doesnt want to hurt mullets feelings? Fuck that shit. WIN THE FUCKING GAME.
4. Bijan is amazing, he really is, but he dances too fucking much. RUN OVER SOMEONE. Stop dancing around trying to make every play a 50 yard td run. Dancing around like that wont work in college and it definitely wont work in the NFL. Just get us the fucking first down.
5. Playcalling was terrible. I dont know if its Sark calling 18 deep bombs to Worthy every game or if Quinn is just saying fuck it and chunking it deep... but its terrible. I dont want to see another deep bomb all year. Quinn hasnt hit one since Bama, and btw I think that was the ONLY one he hit. ITS NOT WORKING.

They played the number 1 team in the country pretty damn well this season.
Youre right but idk if id consider that bama game "meaningful". It was an OOC game that basically had 0 stakes other than "its bama".
-
have the guys on this current roster played in a bigger game than this? maybe there are a few left from the bowl game against Georgia, but outside of that, I cant think of a more meaningful game that these guys have suited up for.
i hope they realize this and are ready to cook up some fucking frog legs tonight.

My throat hurts from screaming last night, but atleast it was good yelling and not bad yelling. waking up with that dub feels fucking good and im gonna soak it in.

We certainly don't have a winning culture.
Does Oklahoma State though? Didn't they blow a big lead of their own last week? People still think we are this big powerhouse that requires elite precision to beat for some reason. Lots of mediocre non-championship meddle teams have beaten us. Tech isn't some bastion of winning football either. We made fuck ups and Oklahoma State took advantage. Good for them.
But they were also out there tripping over themselves at times. This was not a pretty game for either club.
Im tired of the media always saying "are they back/not back" "do they have a winning culture" blah blah blah
No other fucking team in the country gets put under that microscope. Lots of teams lose. Are they back? Who fucking knows because apparently its only Texas who can be back/not be back.

It almost seems like he's not going to make a play on any ball that doesn't hit him perfectly in the hands in stride.
this is what ive been noticing this season. our wrs cant track the ball worth a fuck and put themselves out of position with terrible adjustments on the ball.
quinn fucking sucked last night, no doubt, but he also didnt get any help from anyone (wrs, coaches, o line, etc).

If Card starts and wins, do you start Ewers the next week? Controversy!
You start Ewers when he is 100% healthy with as little re-injury as possible. If he is 80% and a hit or two to the shoulder could have him sitting ROS, you don't risk it. Ewers is our starter and as soon as he is ready, you play him.

Card didn’t limp at all today that I noticed and his stats back up being a bit healthier. The guy spouting that he wouldn’t be a starting QB at any top 40 P5 is fucking laughable at this point. Sark has a decision to make this weekend. Ewers has the higher ceiling by far, but hasn’t had game reps in awhile. Card is showing signs of improvement every week, but we know what he is. Glad it’s not me.
If Ewers is 100% healthy without a high risk of re-injury, he should start. But you are right, there is a coaching decision to make here and I dont envy it.
We don't want to have a Sam Bradford situation with Ewers where we rush him back and he gets taken out in the RRS. Card has had all the game reps recently and you don't want to throw a guy in that atmosphere that will have some rust and has never experienced it before. Also - if Gabriel is out (which he should be, especially with all this Tua stuff lately) we should be able to win without Ewers.
I want Ewers back, but I see a situation where Card starts and we give Ewers an extra week of rest.
