  1. From reading last year's registration rules:

Maximum 25 players, 2 of which are GKs, 8 of which are "locally trained" (slightly different from Premier League "homegrown" rules). Of the locally trained, up to 4 can be "association trained", meaning that they were at a different club within the same association. If you do not have 8, then that deficit gets subtracted from the 25 total roster spots

Locally trained = on the clubs books for 3 seasons between the ages of 15 and 21 ( Brandon Austin is the only player that qualifies)

    Or

On another club's books within the same association (in this case, England or Wales) for 3 entire seasons between the ages of 15-21 (Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Solanke, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Archie Gray, Ashley Phillips, Gibbs-white)

Any youth player born after 1/1/04 and has been with the club for at least 2 years since they turned 15 (or 3 years if they were loaned out for one year) can be registered with the squad without counting against the 25 roster count (i.e. Scarlett, Donley, Devine, Moore).

  2. From The Athletic:

West Ham reject £50m Mohammed Kudus bid from Tottenham

    Spoiler

West Ham United have received an offer from Tottenham Hotspur to sign Mohammed Kudus.

The bid was worth £50million ($68m) and has been turned down but club-to-club talks continue.

Kudus is prioritising Spurs if he leaves West Ham and personal terms for the 24-year-old Ghana international are not expected to be an issue.

The Athletic reported in June that Kudus’ contract, which runs until 2028, has a buyout clause that is only active for the first 10 days of July, valued at £80m for European clubs, £85m for Premier League sides and £120m for Saudi Arabian teams.

The forward has remained on Chelsea’s radar after they stalled on completing a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge from Ajax in 2023, before West Ham sealed his signature.

West Ham signed Kudus for a fee of €41.5million (£35.6m, $48.8m) plus €3m (£2.5m) in add-ons in August 2023, and he immediately became a key part of David Moyes’ side, recording 18 goals and 10 assists in 48 appearances during his first season.

Utilised in multiple positions across West Ham’s frontline, Kudus had a less fruitful 2024-25 campaign, scoring five goals and assisting four in 35 appearances as his side finished 14th in the Premier League.

Before joining West Ham, Kudus scored 27 goals in 87 appearances for Ajax, helping the club to consecutive Eredivisie titles in 2021 and 2022.

Spurs have been keen to add a forward to their squad during the summer, despite being bolstered by the permanent addition of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for €35m, plus €10m in potential bonuses following his loan spell at the club last season.

The north London club hoped to persuade Bryan Mbeumo to join new head coach Thomas Frank in joining from Brentford, but the forward has informed Spurs he favours a move to Manchester United. Meanwhile, The Athletic reported Spurs made an enquiry over Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo, who has since signed a new contract on the south coast.

You guys know there’s no salary caps right? There’s no budget? All this talk of “tying up money” in recruits is nonsense. We have almost unlimited money to spend and we should start acting like it. Do the Dodgers give a shit how much money they have tied up in Ohtani or Betts or Kershaw or anyone else? Do they let it stop them from signing more stars? No.

I must have missed the time that the Dodgers gave a rookie they just drafted $100 million dollars to go play in the minor leagues for two years. Because that's essentially what a recruit is. A rookie that needs development time. In baseball, not worth $100 million. In CFB, not worth $5 million

Now if Jeremiah Smith hits the portal? Yeah, go nuts. But offering that money to a high school senior is regarded.

OK trying to catch up on this.

so now there is a cap on revenue from university to athletes

there is a "clearinghouse" for NIL contracts

I know this is better than the 80's but it seems we are back to where we were before, where under the table stuff is going to go crazy again.  Ain't nobody got time for clearing houses and caps.

how long before the lawsuits start to expose shenanigans "University of Texas v Ohio State University"?

    Define "crazy"

I said this earlier, Cam Newton reportedly got paid $180,000 as a senior to go play 1 year at Auburn. That's a drop in the bucket now.  Will bagmen be able to pay 10x that now under the table?

And I feel like most of the under the table stuff back then was on a player by player basis, not across an entire roster. I think there is a close to zero chance that any school that utilizes under the table bagmen will be able to compete with what Texas/Oregon/Ohio State will pay, legally, across an entire roster.

Also, to your last question: Wisconsin vs Miami

Texas continues to operate by a different rule book by everyone even in this era. We always have ever since the 80s. And for what reason? So some old fucks can feel morally superior why other programs continue to win national titles by cheating and pushing the rule books.

I still don't understand this sky is falling bullshit. What "different rule book" are you talking about? (With regards to now, not back in the 80s)

The different rule book that led us to retaining a roster that went to back to back semi finals? The different rule book that JUST signed and delivered a #1 class?

Also, I'm laughing at the notion that you actually think Bag men can outspend Texas, regardless of whether or not we follow the rules. Bag men paid Cam Newton $180,000. That's chump change now, even within the lateral limits set by "the rules". You think Bag men are somehow going to all of a sudden come up with that amount for multiple players within a 25 man recruiting class? Or 10x that amount for today's 5 star?

There are very few teams that I'm worried about matching/outspending Texas across an entire recruiting class or an entire roster regardless of bag man.  And none of them are in the SEC.

And yet Texas operates like a pussy while others continue to push boundaries.

    How so?

If Texas were operating like a pussy, wouldn't we have lost Hill/Simmons/Muhammad/Wingo/Moore/Guilbeau by now?

Or are you under the impression that their NIL deals haven't been renegotiated each off-season?

What’s better 150-200k from a bagman that doesn’t have to go through verification and is straight to pocket or 750k from Texas that gets denied by Datoilet or whatever that 3rd party is

This is a non issue until we see deals actually get denied, precedent set, and actual enforcement/consequences happen. Until then, it's all boogeyman bullshit.

When you put a cap on the amount of money whether that cap is $0 or $20MM people will find a way to funnel more money to gain an advantage.

Our rivals in the SEC who wanted hard-and-fast guardrail-rules to limit Texas' money got what they wanted -- so that they can go back to cheating while Texas plays by, and gets limited by, rules that no one else in the SEC follows.

The SEC Bag-Men are BACK IN BUSINESS!  FFS

Are you guys under the impression that Texas athletes are some how going to stop getting NIL deals?

There is NO LIMIT to what an athlete can make through NIL sponsorships.

Texas AD can pay athletes up to the $20 million cap.... Plus they can make NIL revenue on the side that does not affect the cap at all, including through Texas One Fund.

Do you really think some SEC bag man in fucking Tuscaloosa/Gainesville/Baton Rouge is going to be able to spend more than Texas One Fund?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what am I missing here? How could AD revenue + bag man + NIL sponsorships for Uncle Bob's Sunflower Seeds in bum fuck nowhere be a threat to Texas AD revenue + Austin corporate sponsorship + Texas One Fund NIL?

In San Diego right now and the ratio of hot women it’s high and the number of obese people I see a day is single digits. Like maybe 3 or 4 a day. So low that you don’t really notice.

Hits close to home as I live here in San Diego now and went out last night. Definitely some great eye candy to hang out with
