Let's not drag this shit off topic. Especially because y'all are probably about to see an example of a mega billionaire being punished for his hubris. The NBA is a private organization collectively owned by 30 management groups. A healthy majority of that 30 is pissed and wants to stick it to these clowns.
I deleted, you can delete your quote.
And believe me, there's nothing more I want here than to see Ballmer punished.

The precedent for this firm getting hired under Silver is owners being forced to sell their teams.
I'm not saying that is what happens - I don't think that is what happens - but that is where the bar is.
If Ballmer is found to have done this (and at this point I don't know how to come to any other conclusion), I think forcing a sale is perfectly appropriate. Like you, I don't think it will happen, but I'd love to see it.

This. It's not just Occam's razor (people in charge were faced with a novel, deadly virus spreading in pandemic fashion, and cobbled together the best path they could on the fly, as they were dealing with huge buckets of knowns (overwhelmed medical system, high body counts) and huge buckets of unknowns (too many to count)). They took approaches that included a significant element of caution. In RETROSPECT, now that we have more info and better data, they got somethings right and some things wrong.
I know this because I was literally "in the room" as decision-makers (at lower levels -- think local governments and such) were grappling with what to do, how to do it, where to find the resources to do it, etc. These were just ordinary human beings, wrestling with an incredible responsibility, facing horrific outcomes (yeah, some of the conversations were absolutely about where do we store all these bodies, shit, where can we even park the trailers we're using to store all these bodies? Bodies that included their friends and neighbors, BTW). There was no sinister conspiracy hatched in a mountain lair. Just human beings, doing their imperfect best to handle an unprecedented crisis. That, yes, killed literally millions of people, so it was sure as shit a real thing.
There's nothing worse than Monday morning quarterbacking a (hopefully) once in a lifetime public health crisis. We were in totally uncharted waters. Of course some things could have been done better.

Don't get me wrong - I like your anti-jinx approach. I'm just confident enough in how out of left-field and necessitating punishment that this is to not worry about it with regards to my own takes on the situation. That they just hired a "fuck you" law firm reinforces that for me.
And dammit, I love the journalism here. Torre came with fucking receipts when he broke this shit, not just a hunch. I'm sure Silver will look for a way, but I don't see how he can sweep this shit under the rug. There's just too much there and everyone knows it at this point.
But I'm also with @Kermit. I've been on this ride before and I don't like it one bit.

Amazing. Torre went through the bankruptcy filing and then checked the ownership of the random LLC that was the largest recipient of Aspire's funds. The story could have died right there but Uncle whatever listed his name as the owner of the LLC instead of figuring out how to do it anonymously.
Kawhi was listed as the manager of the LLC on the SOS filing. Uncle dumbfuck was listed as Kawhi's representative in the endorsement contract with Aspiration.

No way. They're going to get hit with something. The other owners and execs are pissed.
The question is is it some slap on the wrist bullshit or something pretty punitive.
If Silver doesn't hit them hard, it's gonna be bad for the league going forward. Lots more of these things will happen.

Got my second shingles shot on Tuesday. Felt like ass all day Wednesday but was back to normal by yesterday. Far better than weeks of debilitating pain.

I'm looking at a couple of 2022 4Runners - TRD Off-Road Premium. One has the KDSS and the other does not. I'm nervous about any additional hydraulic system since my wife's Limited's X-RES system started leaking at 70k. I understand the ride quality is better, but the cost to fix that stuff is ridiculous.
Anyone have experience with the KDSS, good or bad?
Get a Lexus GX. All the offroad cred and a V8.

Just picked up a '25 Hyundai Ioniq5 for my oldest. Colorado has insanely cheap leases for these vehicles right now. Sticker price of almost $50k and I paid just over $200/mo with only first payment down on a 24 month lease. My first EV, but I'm impressed with how it drives.
It was an easy choice with how fucked the used car market is. I'm not paying $15k for a 10 year old Outback or Rav4 with 100k miles.

Just to give you an idea of stuff she's getting about Early Decision where you commit to attending if accepted. This is where the real FOMO is being pushed. We're not doing this with Trinity as the aid would have to be what we need to make it affordable and for her it would be a toss-up between them and Colorado College as far as which one she would rather go to in that situation. So we're not planning any early decision choices.
Dear mdmost's oldest child,
As you embark on your senior year, we know that the college application process can feel exciting and possibly daunting. Please know that the Trinity admissions team is here to support you in this journey! We compiled a few pro tips below to help you as you navigate forward.
Apply sooner rather than later.Trinity has a November 1 deadline that includes both Early Decision I (binding) and Early Action (non-binding).
Receive notification of admission AND scholarship by December. Enjoy winter break knowing your admissions decision and alleviate added stress in the spring.
Apply Now →Apply Early Decision (ED) to distinguish yourself.
Put yourself in the most competitive position for admission. Being strategic in this process is important.
The ED acceptance rate is over 50%, compared to 25% overall. ED applicants receive our highest consideration in the review process, which is why a third of our incoming first-year students committed ED!
Early Decision at Trinity →Receive your scholarship and financial aid package
BEFORE applying ED.Can you imagine committing to a college without knowing the net cost?
Neither can we.
If Trinity is a top consideration, click here to receive an early financial aid offer to ensure Trinity is financially viable.
Request an early financial aid estimate →Please reach out to our talented admissions team if you have questions at any point. We wish you the best and look forward to seeing your application soon!
Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Dean of AdmissionsTrinity has always put a priority on early decision. I did not apply that way, but my wife did. She also did the Trinity Summer (don't know if they still do that), which also helps. They will offer your kid a fuckton of financial aid, though. That's what the huge endowment is for.

Thanks @mdmost and @Sawbonz for the reassurance. I should know better to listen to some of these folks, especially as we are surrounded by aggy, and they are usually talking about things like CS and engineering programs down there. Guess that's what happens when you overwhelm your school with volume and drown what you could potentially be good at as a university.
I double checked and his main considerations at this points (CSU, CU, and Mines) all have non-binding early action dates no earlier than Nov. 1, so I'll calm my tits. I'll try to get him to make UT's 10/15, even though I'm not sure it'd be right for him if he got in. None of his favorites at this point are true early decision.
Ain't that the truth. One reason we're really trying to let him figure out where he's going to love being and get involved academically and socially. Some of the smartest, best, and most successful rads I work with did their undergrad at places like Angelo State, Tech, and even LSU.
If he gets into Mines, you can crash on @Beau Vine's couch when you visit.

Weren't you there with me? It's been a long time. But, yes, some fatass woman with a tiny husband and two pre-teen kids was getting into her minivan and turned around to a group of us and started yelling that "texassss sucks" and other inanities. I told her she needed to drop a couple hundred pounds and stop embarrassing her little husband and idiot kids in public. I believe her son now posts on this site as @Chewbacca.
Texas fan calling Colorado fans fat? That's a new take.

George Will was on Maher recently. I didn't see the show, but I saw the clip. He talked about his "trade imbalance" with his barber. Every month, he buys a haircut from her, and she never buys anything from him. And she buys corn at the supermarket, which comes from Iowa, but those Iowa farmers never come to her shop for a haircut. Yet, as Will said, "it all seems to work out fine".
Yeah, I have a huge trade imbalance with the grocery store.

What did you pay for which new Mazda? Need to buy my kid a car and used prices are dumbThe Ferrari 458 broke my mind when it came out. The 488 and its derivatives are still my dream cars. I'm not so hot on Lambos, although I'd take one if you wanted to give it to me, or if I could play football.
In other breaking news, on Wednesday I spent just under $25K on a new Mazda, so I think I have a ways to go on the financial front before I should be posting in this thread. -

So about to hop a flight to Nashville and the gate attendant announced they don’t have enough bags checked for ballast in the airplane therefore they are offering to check bags for free..,
Have to wonder how often this happens now after the change in policy.Would be hilarious if they still end up checking the same number of bags that they used to, but the majority are done for free at the gate, eliminating the revenues after they've already alienated their best customers.

Wait, it is the Democratic Party's fault for the tariffs and higher prices now, with a republican controlled government.
When you ask one of these idiots to explain how things were worse under Democrats, you can see smoke come out of their ears. Everything has to be the Dems fault because otherwise they voted for the wrong guy.

how many affordable, good schools are left in Texas?
Trinity has a huge endowment and used to provide a lot of scholarships and other aid packages other than loans to keep costs affordable. I assume they still do, but I'm not 100%.

My MIL is a counselor in San Diego that specializes in placing and helping kids get into college. Over the last few years she’s seen it become easier for out of state kids to get into CA schools than CA kids. They want that out of state money.
CU and CSU went through that probably 15-20 years ago and there was a huge outcry when one year's freshman class at CU had more out of state than in state kids in it. I think they are required to have more in state kids in every class now. But they do love the OOS tuition.
