  1. So what is the upper end of surveyor salaries?  Google seems to indicate $90K, which most engineers top not very long out of school. This is very important information.  The thread depends on it.

Haha for the sake of the thread, that number isn't close. That's probably close to starting at a small firm but closer to $150k for 5 to 10 year experienced PM/RPLS. 10 year plus with business development experience is around $250k.

My original thread derailment point was that land surveyors, particularly in Texas, are no longer the red headed step child of the engineering/construction world. Not to say we are not all whores in one way or another, we just try to be the high end Vegas ones.

Then again this is based on my own observations and I don't have anything to prove so I don't think I need to go full rocko.

Back to the thread, fuck Trump.

  2. This smells wrong.  For one thing, he must be talking about hiring surveyors and draftsmen, because no degreed engineer would rather take shitty unemployment pay over an actual salary.  Beyond that, although rules vary state by state, in general when one is on unemployment, they are required to search for employment and document all inquiries and any offers.  As time marches on, the flexibility for turning down imperfect job offers fades.

It's one thing for a bartender to "look" for a job that doesn't exist.  It's another thing entirely for someone to not accept offers and continue to draw unemployment checks.

Well actually, registered surveyors make considerably more than engineers here in Texas. Atleast the good ones do.

  3. Wouldn't work this year but when my daughter was in elementary school I called my wife and told her my daughter shit her pants and to take her some clothes immediately.

Everyone in the school office and my wife laughed their ass off.  Daughter was about 10 at the time and she did not laugh when told about it.

I have a noob question. I want to get back into mountain biking after not riding in many years. I live very close to Crystal Falls/Ronald Reagan in Leander. Does anyone know if it's practical to ride down to the Brushy Creek trails or will I need to load up my bike and drive?

You can if you don't mind adding about 10 miles round trip to your ride.  There is something for every skill level at Brushy Creek, I've been riding there for about a year and half and am still amazed at how awesome it is.  I've just worked my way up to doing the big drop at the end of Mulligan and it's such an adrenaline rush.  Don't think I'll ever work my way up to Gnargasm, youtube it....holy shit.

Cancer rates are thru the roof? I honestly don’t know. Is there a number you can share that shows that relative to other populations?

Good question, looked it up and didn't see where Deaf Smith County was particularly higher on the cancer mapping, although the 2 counties south, Parmer and Castro were.  I spent 6 years at the beginning of my surveying career in Hereford working for the county surveyor and it was one of his theories about the cancer rates.  He would talk about the EPA being paid off by the local power brokers.

We surveyed many feedlots and they are bad but they don't have shit on hog farms and/or dairy farms for that matter.
