You can take a cooler in the fair, just no booze or metal stabby stuff. Planning on taking a cheap ass lunch box cooler stuffed with waters on Saturday, partly bc the shit show that was RRS running out of water by hakf time and the food booths being insane anyhow. Just need to figure out where to hide it before goin in the game.

    Wait, for real?

  2. I'll lead this off with the lamest question I can think of:

What's the water filling station / water fountain situation? Do they let you bring in empty bottles to use for water?

I'll do a full report on all the fried debauchery I consume as penance.

Hellll ya! How do you like the pointer(ish) controller? I sorta dig it. I’m just running some pretty standard video settings I found on the interwebz, but the… something expert mode for bright/dark room looks pretty… pretty… pretty good.

The remote takes some getting used to, but I like it. If you haven't watched Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix yet, the picture is incredible. I've read you're supposed to let it break in for a couple months before tinkering with settings, so I'll wait a bit.

  5. This is a very subjective topic, everyone is different. Depends on a lot of different factors: body shape, size, weight, back sleeper, stomach sleeper, etc. Just because I love my Purple 3, doesn't mean it's gonna work for you.

That said, the wife and I went thru the same process of trying Casper/Bed in a Box/Tuft & Needle/and some others I can't remember. Sent them all back. Tried a Purple 3 in a store and loved it. It's a little pricey, but you can't put a price on good sleep.

  6. I took delivery of this one last week from Home Depot:

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Interbuild-Acacia-6-ft-L-x-40-in-D-x-1-in-T-Butcher-Block-Island-Countertop-in-Light-Oak-Stain-669278/309409301?MERCH=REC-_-pip_alternatives-_-312360362-_-309409301-_-N

It got really banged up in shipping, so I had to return it. It seemed like a quality piece of wood otherwise. Like you said, for just a desktop, it's not like it needs to be indestructible, just enough to hold a monitor and a keyboard. Lowe's also has them:

    And then the Ikea offerings:

  7. I got this one from Office Depot a few months back:

    https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/604924/WorkPro-1000-Series-Mesh-Mid-Back/

I've been happy with it. Similar ergonomics to the Steelcases and such. The only thing that's not adjustable is the seatback height, so you have to make sure that lumbar curve sits in your back right. I bought a memory foam seat cushion to prop me up a little more so the lumbar curve sat in my back better.

  8. Has anyone had an existing pool enlarged? House shopping now, really want a pool, but the pools at houses in our area trend on the smaller side. Just curious if that's even feasible, and how cost effective it would be, cheaper or more expensive than building one from scratch, because I could see it both ways.

And I don't mean a complete renovation of the whole thing, I mean trying to keep as much of the existing pool as possible, and just extending one end or side to better maximize pool space.

I had shit mattresses for years. The Purple Mattress (the one that is springs/foam/and purple goo) I think it's the Purple 3. It's their pricey one, but it's the first time I have looked forward to going to sleep on a mattress since college...I see now they have changed their branding/names..but they are the same mattresses...I think I have the hybrid 3"...that's what she said.

It seems too simple, but that lattice purple stuff is great...but if the industry can make us think plain old foam is fancy, then the purple crap works too. And really helps with heat...foam-only mattresses are hotboxes for me.

They are in some mattress stores if you want to go try them out. Ignore the cheesy frame that lifts and vibrates. Just because it doesn't take quarters, doesn't make it a good idea.

Another +1 for Purple 3. Wife and I tried out a bunch of the popular online bed-in-a-boxes, returned them all. Purple 3 is so much better.

What’s your opinion on memory foam pillows? We have a tempurpedic adjustable bed but I can’t seem to get better. My pillows are shit though. I’m mostly a side sleeper.

    Saw this on Costco.com

    Thanks

Just got me one of these pillows, works well. Good for back and side sleeping:

None! Your TVs are likely streaming between 6-12 Mbps, usually towards the lower end of that. You probably never hit even 50 in total. If you do, your TVs would briefly lower resolution to make due with what they’re getting p, and you most likely wouldn’t even notice

Correct, you only need ~5 Mbps to stream an HD tv signal. We're an all-streaming house of 3 tv's, 4 tablets, 3 iPhones, 1 gaming console, and 1 PC. We have Grande's lowest tier of 300 Mbps, and it hasn't choked at all. We could probably drop to 100 and wouldn't notice a difference. For a typical household, 1G is extreme overkill.

They are all available and even if you record a "new" show it will pull up the past episodes on demand for you as well. We have had YTTV for a couple of months and have had only a few minor gripes.

We have two Roku's, 2 Apple TV 4K's. The apple 4K remote is AWFUL to use the touch screen sucks and is really annoying to use. Our other Apple 4K we are using a Harmony remote that works great.

Far and away my biggest complaint is Viacom's forced commercials on their channels. Even if you "record" a show to your DVR they force you to watch their On Demand show that you can't fast forward through commercials in some cases.

I am even debating adding another service just so I don't have to watch commercials on some shows if that is even possible. Other than that I have been super happy with the switch from DTV.

Different strokes for different folks. I like the Apple remote. Did you try adjusting the sensitivity settings?

Anyone opt for Purple? Good mattress or just good advertising?

The wife and I played 'online mattress roulette' for about a year. Tried and returned Casper, Leesa, Tuft & Needle, and Bed in a Box. They all felt relatively the same, and were too firm for the wife's liking. I like it somewhat firm to sleep on my back, but I also like to occasionally roll on my side, and for that, they were no good.

Then we got a Purple 3. Yes it was a good bit more expensive, but worth it if you ask me. As mentioned above, it's the only one out of all these online marketed mattresses that does something actually different than the standard memory foams. Yes that elastic grid stuff on the top layer feels a little odd at first, but after laying on it for about 10 minutes, I didn't even notice it, and haven't thought about it since. What's nice about it is the way that elastic grid is designed, it's firm when you lay flat on your back, but then allows for shoulders and hips to sink in when you turn on your side. We love it.

I got a decent blazer from suit supply and I thought about getting a suit.  Then I started getting their emails and I realized that they were not the place for me when they were advertising suits but with shorts instead of pants.

Got a suit from SuitSupply yesterday. Yes they lean to the more modern side, but not in a hipster-douche sort of way (although they can certainly accommodate that look). They have plenty of classically styled suits with modern fits. As a short guy who struggles with off the rack stuff, I was happy with the way theirs fit me.
