  1. 38 degrees with a light north wind is pretty hard to beat. I had a small 2.5 year old 8; 5 does and 8 turkeys. Also, had a hog at 55 yards but that’s out of my range.

Most of the time we have a group but sometimes it’s enjoyable just being solo; can’t wait to get out to the country again

What bow setup are you shooting? Are you going to hunt tree stands or pop-ups?

Scent control /wind direction really matters.

Shot and handled a bunch of different bows and ended up taking home a Matthew’s phase 4; put a QAD fall away rest and a black gold 3 pin sight.

I’ll mostly be hunting tree stands and appreciate the advice. Excited to get a lot closer and hone my hunting skills.

I definitely want to hunt the West before I get too old but right now just trying to narrow down my arrows and broadheads (fixed vs mechanical etc)

I was saving my 4Runner for a full stock restore once I move out of the concrete jungle but I want to spend the extra insurance $ on her.

I’m looking for new shocks/struts as that’s definitely something she needs.  I don’t want a lift but leveling would be nice. A lot of what I’m reading leads to the Bilstein 5100 series.  Anyone have experience good or bad?  If I order an assembled kit online how much should I expect to pay to have them installed (who to hire?) or would it be better to find a local dealer? (Their website sucks for finding authorized installers).

SDG, I went with OME shocks and the Bilstein 5100’s and have been happy. This fixed the rear sag issue. I see you don’t want a lift but would like it leveled. A good option for that would be to replace with 99 4Runner highlander springs. This is an original part but they are actually an 1” taller.

I’ll drop a link below that will save a lot of time and include part numbers for suspension etc.

  4. Costco had a Rebecca creek double barrel store pick that I was told was MGP; does anyone know if that is true?

Also, bought a 14 year old tincup that is MGP; excited to try even if it’s only 84 proof

  5. Did anyone else seem abnormally low deer numbers this year? I've hunted the same place in Jack County for the last 17 years and don't know if I've ever seen as few as deer as we saw this year. It might be due to the freeze or lack of rain but we didn't seen any mature deer (doe or buck) this year and we typically have at least have a couple 4.5 year old deer.

I talked to a large processor in DFW and they said they were down almost 40% in the amount of deer brought in this year. They thought the freeze and low fawn survival rates were the culprit.

    Facebook.
Someone Say Whiskey is a national FB group so when we do a barrel pick, we offer a percentage of the bottles to members that aren't local to DFW and will ship them. Not to brag or anything, but we've released some pretty damn good bottles.  Herbie can testify.  Our 2 JDBP picks were fucking incredible.
If anyone wants in the group, just message me with your name on Facebook and I can let you in.

just curious, where did you get the bottle?  I thought that one was sold out.

I got that from S&K Beverage in Plano off of 75 and Spring Creek Pkwy. I think it was $58 dollars out the door; they had probably 12-15 bottles left yesterday.

BigD; great job on the pick. I might have over served myself a bit last night. 125.6 proof bourbons aren't supposed to go down that easy

    That’s a great bottle.
    Glad you picked one up.

I’m about 3-4 pours in but got to say pretty damn tasty; well done.

  8. I haven't ever tried it but picked up a single barrel Heaven's Door. I think someone on the Surly is associated but it was picked by "Someone Say Whiskey Group"; excited to try it.

  9. Can't wait for the weekend! We didn't run any cameras this year so everything I see will be a surprise and I'm honestly excited about that. Throwing a brisket on the WSM tonight for dinner Friday; taking off early from work to get out there early. Looking forward to a weekend filled with (hopefully) bucks, bourbon and brisket.

  10. Apologies if this has been addressed but did we ever get a follow up from AppStateFan86 or whatever the name was that posted the fan fiction piece on TA? I'm curious how the best fans in all of college football treated him??

anyone else a lifetime license holder ?

I got mine in 08 I think when they were still $1000 (super combo). It's nice now just ordering online and having the app on my phone in case I forget my license dove hunting.

  12. I got to fly fish for the second time this year and it really is addicting. The gift of having to really concentrate; be present and learn is amazing. Nothing like standing in a river all day!

This is from the cimmarron river outside of eagle nest, NM. Only caught one small brown and this rainbow but can’t beat river therapy.

  13. I was hoping the Surly braintrust could help or provide some insight on starting or working with supplement companies to formulate and make my own line of supplements.

Background is that Mrs. Cknight(no pics) is a gut health dietician who runs a small business that provides group and one to one support for people dealing with gut issues. She recommends a wide variety of supplements but has to mix and match etc. as they might not have the specific ingredients or doses that she needs.

Does anyone on here work for a supplement company or have one that they recommend?

What specific questions should I be asking?

Any red flags to look out for?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  14. Getting excited for dove/teal season even though it's hot as hell right now. My dog has been a couch potato for 4 months so we just picked back up training and I am getting her back in shape and tuned up. Anyone else got a lab or bird dog they are looking to shoot some birds over? I'm jonesing for some hunting!

I’m keeping my 99 4Runner SR5 Sport V6 4x4. It’s got about 165k on it. AC blows cold. Now a family heirloom. Everything works. I’ve replaced a radiator. Some front suspension parts. Everything else is maintenance. I use Lucas Oil additives in oil and fuel. The only bad thing on it is paint. Old house has 16 huge crepe myrtles that seeped all over it and my Acura and ate the paint.

Is your’s an auto or standard? Does it have rear locking differential? Those a getting super expensive and desirable
