  1. Anybody have any ideas? This is one of my cameras near my house in Scurry County.

My wife told me about a year ago that she saw an "ocelot" out in the pasture and I told her she was full of it because we are a long way from where those are in Mexico... but this sure doesn't look like a house cat. But maybe it is? But I have never seen a house cat anywhere near my place. We don't have one and none of the neighbors do either.

Maybe it's a bobcat, but that looks like a long tail and it doesn't seem squatty enough.

Thinking about sending this to the game warden next week after my brother is done hunting there this weekend.

wish I'd know that was possible.  I'd have watched out my office window here in corpus

I was just driving down the highway and completely absolutely by accident saw the one last month all the way out in Hermleigh in West Texas, about 500 miles away from Boca Chica, so I figured I would try to see this one today from my house which is closer. And I did.

I was looking out the window towards the south and had the the live broadcast on in the background. Couldn't see anything at first but then as soon as they announced the separation on TV there was a bright flash and a puff of smoke in the clear sky. It flashed a couple of times and then disappeared. It was pretty cool.

How far above the horizon was that in Sugar Land?

It was actually pretty high up. Not directly overhead but not that low.

This graphic I found on twitter turned out to be pretty accurate. Apparently last month you could see it flying in the sky because it was at dawn and the sky was darker. This one the sun was up so all I could see was the separation which was right in that spot where it was supposed to be.

Was he just sitting there on his ass waiting for you to end him?

No, not literally when I got here but it wasn’t long. I was watching the football game waiting for the camera to go off. He has been coming every night for two weeks and I knew he would show up eventually.

That feeder is only about 150 yards off the back porch so I usually just set up my pig gun on a tripod out there when I am here. Eventually he showed up and I slipped outside and popped him.

It’s a heck of a way to hunt pigs, I have to say. LOL

  4. Got here to my house just after dark last night and quickly went inside so as not to spook off the big pig. See pictures above. Couldn't see the yard and didn't care.

Woke up this morning to see my front yard looking like this. I only have security cameras on the doors, so no photographic evidence but it happened since the last time I was here in September. I've seen a couple of sounders on my game camera but never seen anything this close to the house.

Damn I hate these fuckers. 🤬

I’ve had real good luck with Texas Wildlife Supply feeders (and blind).  Quality stuff, relatively heavy made dumb steel.  I think I’m going to have a big # feeder commissioned next year.  Fill it once or twice and be done type of deal.

The protein feeder in my picture of the ASF that a posted above is a TWS. Very high quality and super heavy duty materials.

Which stand and fill are you looking at? The All Seasons EZ has been good for me.

I have an ASF already at my primary stand at my place. They are the most expensive but definitely the highest quality. There are probably a half dozen or more places along the highway between here and Snyder where I could buy one.

I also have an old Buccees one that got beat up pretty good by Beryl this summer. I might be able to rehabilitate that one but it's not all that rugged and I'm worried that these giant pigs will eventually get underneath and tear it up.

The feed store in Snyder had some Crossfires when I was in town last month for about the same price as the ASF and seem to be similar quality.

Not really sure. I'm leaning towards saying "fuck it" and stopping at J&L in Cisco and getting an ASF and just cry once when I buy it.

There was a constant stream of C-130s flying over us.  Was pretty cool.  My friend is a retired Air Force officer vet who used to be a WSO on the B-1.  He identified the planes.

At my aforementioned place in Scurry County we are on the western end of the training routes for the B1's out of Dyess. They get to Snyder and turn around and head the 70 miles back to Abilene. You can hear them going overhead but usually they are so high up you can't see them. Late in the evening when the sun is low, sometimes you can see the reflection in the sky if you look in the right place, but they definitely aren't buzzing us 100 feet off the ground.

  8. This big nasty MF'er has been coming to my feeder in Scurry County now twice a day for the last two weeks. That feeder goes off at 7 AM and 7 PM and he has his watch set. The deer don't even bother coming because he cleans it out as soon as it hits the ground.

I'm in Houston, but one week from tonight I will be in Snyder for a whole week and I'll have my gun set up on the back porch while I'm watching Monday Night Football... just my luck he won't show up the whole time I'm there next week.

Guarantee those guys are told to not make promises that they can’t personally deliver.

and as much pressure as the citizens and politicians are putting on centerpoint, I guarantee they’re getting more pressure from the power generation companies and electricity providers. Having Houston down is economically killing all of them. That is why politicians are now getting involved.

    Oh, I’m sure.

But just a little bit of information like, “There are several poles and transformed down around the corner that we are still working on.” would go a long way.

  10. My wife looked out the window yesterday and saw a Centerpoint truck out by our gate by the highway about 150 yards away and two guys walking down the driveway, presumably looking at the wires and the poles onto our property.

She ran out there to try to talk to them and get some information. They saw her coming and turned around and got back in the truck and drove off before she could get there.

i know, csb, but for reason hearing that really pissed me off. I guess we should just be glad they were there at all.

I hear you, but I'll also say that I grew up in West Texas and I've spent a little time in Phoenix and Southern California and it really is the humidity that makes Houston so unbearable without AC.

Even when the temp is well over 100, if the air is dry and you can get into the shade with just a small breeze, it's tons more bearable than even 85 and humid in Houston. Just stay out of the direct sun between 9:00 and 5:00 and you won't melt like you will in Houston. A lot of the houses in Phoenix have thick stucco walls and you can sit inside with windows open at both ends and not be miserable like you would be in Houston.

You can also run a swamp cooler - which is just a fan over a pan of water - on a portable generator compared to needing a big generator to run AC compressor.

But yes, even in those places AC makes life more bearable just like it does in Houston.

  12. Centerpoint has  robocalled us twice in the past 12 hours to falsely tell us power has been restored. When we call back to to disagree we either get a message that the outage reporting system is down or we get a message to call back during normal business hours.

I’m usually one to be patient and cut them some slack over a damn hurricane, but this shitshow is getting shittier by the minute. We’re going to run out of propane in about 24 hours and then I’m going to get really pissed.

  13. One surprise yesterday is that my wife's greenhouse didn't get blown to bits. Some of the roof panels came loose and the center support fell over and made the roof sag but that was easy to fix. I would have expected it to be a pile of glass and aluminum after the storm and it wasn't.
