  1. Okam is headed to the Panthers and Herman should have known that from the second Rhule got hired 12 days ago. You can't fault Herman for Okam picking Carolina over us. You should fucking roast him for being dumb enough to not know there was no way he was coming.

I'll fucking toast Baylor hiring Joey McGuire. The odds of that working out are pretty damned slim. He's not Gus Malzahn or Art Briles.

Baylor's boards are almost all united in their desire for McGuire. He's also the guy Rhule officially blessed as the next man up after he left last week.

Also, Fuente is the guy I wanted instead of Herman. He has had a weird run at Va Tech. Had a great first year, then meh and mutiny and more meh and losing to Old Dominion. I don’t know what I think, but he has Texas ties and I’m still impressed with him turning Memphis into a winner. He’s not who I’d like to see at Baylor, but it would also be a neat personal thing to watch as consolation when he undoubtedly blows out Texas repeatedly because we’re apparently fucked for life as fans.

I've heard mixed feedback on Fuente. Supposedly he's elite when it comes to managing staff and handling the coaches room, and he's got a reputation for being a pretty good recruiter (2020 being a rather notable exception). I've also heard he struggles to maintain team chemistry and culture and lets the upperclassmen drive culture in an unhealthy way. That works when when you've got great team guys, and it's a disaster when you don't. I've heard mixed feedback on his ability to develop talent.

Per tigerdroppings Baylor is interviewing Aranda. Would be interesting to see both Herman and o breaking in new coordinators next year.

Baylor is down to 4 guys, Aranda / Fuentes / McGuire / Napier. Probably announced tomorrow, but maybe Thursday. Fuentes is the safest of those picks, Aranda is the biggest risk but highest upside. Personally I think it's McGuire and the keep a bunch of the staff in place, but replace a few of the offensive guys.

Would be a genius move by Brady.  He has nowhere to go but down at LSU with Burrow leaving.  Go to the NFL as OC.  Get paid 7 figures.  If you do well, you get a HC job with bigtime $$$.  If you bomb, you go back to college still known as the guy who was awesome at LSU.

In fact, I wonder why more coaches don't test the NFL waters.  Make bank and even if you fail miserably, you're still held in high regard in college.  (See Petrino, Saban, Spurrier, Kelly).

Its like pausing your college career for 4-5 years to make a ton of money with zero negative affect on your college career.  Rhule could go 0-64 over the next 4 years and still get a great P5 job in college afterwards.

This is a great point. I don’t know why Riley hasn’t done it yet.

If Rhule can find a QB in the next 3 years he’s got a real good chance to be in Carolina for awhile. If he can’t, he’ll be at PennState / tOSU / Michigan in 4 years with a contract Jimbo would be jealous of.

Is there really "smoke" around Gundy interviewing for Baylor?

Supposedly Gundy was very interested in 2016, but I don't know how true that is. I don't think it's a good fit anymore and would be really surprised to see it.

    Wouldn’t that be 21?

That last statement was poorly written by me, apologies.

I think Georgia is gonna win a close game, something like 20-17 because of Georgia's OL. If Georgia can't run the ball though, I could see Baylor extending a lead in the 2nd half to win the game by a score of 30-9 or something like that. I don't think this is going to be a repeat of the Baylor / TCU game where it was 9-9 at the end of regulation.

  8. OU is gonna be better than they were this year. LSU will take a step back but not a massive one. Okie State will be better, as will TCU. Baylor could take a big step back or be better depending on Rhule. The schedule is tougher next year than this year.

For me it's process. They could be much improved next season and still go 9-3 and miss the conference title game.

  9. This game is gonna get decided by the Baylor Front 7. If they can stop Georgia's zone runs out of a heavy personnel package w/ their 3 down base, Georgia's offense is gonna do jack shit w/ their non-existent WR corp. If Georgia goes heavy and is consistently getting 5 / .6 YPC, Baylor will pull out a 4 man Front and load the box, and Fromm is gonna get some one on one looks against the Baylor CBs that are good, but aren't good enough to hold up without giving up a big play.

I think Georgia wins a close game around 20, but the path is absolutely there for Georgia to lose by 20 in a 30-9 game.

  10. I might be talking out of my ass, but this feels like a streaming play to me. It’s a stupid spend for ESPN if you’re thinking about normalcy ESPN subscribers, but if you think in terms of Disney aggregating content for streaming it starts to make a lot more sense.

It means a bunch of conferences are about to get a major offer from ABC if that’s the case.

  11. Wife is a die hard Baylor girl, so I end up half following the team. According to their 9.95 guys, the Collins visit went well but Princely did not. Assumption on Princely is that the wants to meet the new UT staff before making a decision, and that the visit this weekend had more to do w/ Mom wanting him to take it than him actually being interested. Baylor 9.95 guys think Collins is down to OU / Baylor, and won't decide until February.

Honestly I don't even want Princely if I can't call him 4i Princely.

He would be a great 1-Tech in an even Front. Enough burst to have a decent pass rush, big enough and strong enough to hold up a double, has the arm length and hand size to be lethal anchoring twists.

  13. Robinson could absolutely leave A&M for Rutgers. One of his best friends is Fran Brown who just got hired to be the secondary coach / co-DC. They were both on staff at Temple under Rhule and both were on Baylor's staff in Rhule's first year.

Jimbo tried to get Robinson from Baylor and got turned down cold, so Jimbo money whipped him to the point Baylor couldn't compete. He's got zero long term interest in being at Aggieland.

  14. Baylor gets a great pass rush from their DEs because Lynch is a fucking stud, but also because they put a shitload of complexity on their LBs and they perform. This year, Baylor’s NT is just a two gapping stump, but their DEs do 4 things:

    1. play the 4i hold up on the double

    2. 4i and then bust ass up field in a 1 gap

    3. traditional 5 tech and two gap

    4. 7 tech and outside rush

Baylor rarely asks the DEs to do the same thing on a given play and often mixes and matches their responsibilities. As a result, the LBs have to have their assignments screwed to the post, and frequently have two gap run responsibilities on passing downs.
