  1. If the Astros cheat past the twins any o/u for number of time the benches clear in the ALCS? The Rangers have to be pissed - Verlander cheating against the Red Sox let them win the division and in game 2 of the ALDS the fox announcers were straight up calling out Peña for cheating on defense. They shouldn’t even be in the playoffs but for some reason MLB lets then get away with murder.

Funny how many people on this site rag on how Houston and various surrounding communities are aggy central, then claim that Houston is not an aggy-level fanbase because it hurts their dick to be compared to the aggy that they are.

It's the circular paradox of aggy energy.  It must be very stressful for those caught in it.

I was at a store Sunday afternoon in Shreveport.  I was wearing a Texas Longhorn shirt.  An elderly man (LSU alum) made a comment to me that Texas really put it to Kansas yesterday.  I acknowledged his comment.  He then said this:

Man:  "Next year y'all will be in the SEC where it will be a lot tougher".

Me:  Thinking to myself.  Here it comes the old "the SEC is just so tough" that Texas will struggle.

Man: "Adding Texas and OU will make it very strong.  There is already Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss is having a good year, typically Florida and Auburn are decent.  Carolina will get you from time to time too.  You guys are coming on strong again.  What a conference it will be".

Me:  "Whoa, whoa, whoa.  You left out aggy".

Man:  Laughingly.  "No I did not".

Me: "I am glad to see that y'all are seeing what we have always known".

Man's wife:  "Oh, we have always known about them.  They are crazy.  We have some family members that are aggy.  They are in their 70s.  The whole fanbase is crazy.  They never grow out of it".

Our conversation continued a bit more ranging from football to education merits of the various schools.  There were no merits for aggy mentioned.

aggy does not yet realize that with us locking down TX-based eyeballs for the TV contracts they are quickly, if not already, a net financial negative for the conference.  At some point very soon the formula (total revenue - paying aggy to go away)/(teams minus aggy) is going to equal more than paying aggy an equal share.  They aren't a legacy member like Vandy so at some point I fully expect the SEC to realize they bring a worthless demographic to the table and were a means to an end - specifically getting the TX demographic the SEC really wanted.  They either take a reduced payout and get to continue to pretend they are a major conference team or they get bought out.

  4. 9:15AM and already a long day with the fans of baseball aggy at work.  Apparently the astros won the championship of the universe last night.  I take solace in 3 talking points:

1 - the Rangers are still more elite in the AL West with more championships in the AL West (and without cheating!)
2 - what really matters is where everyone sits at the end of this month
3 - I hope after the season the MLB takes a hard look at the Verlander/Cora fight in their series against the Red Sox.  That was pretty clearly cheating to avoid a pitch clock violation and if the MLB forces them to vacate a game they clearly cheated in well then all this hubris gets really fucking interesting.

At best the astros won the division against a better team due to a rut of bad hitting.  At worst they won the division due to cheating yet again.  Regardless I guarantee they go full aggy and put a pennant up at their park.  Really sad.

  5. ESPN’s loess right now is “will the longhorns or the aggys make a statement?”  So a statement for us is a convincing win to set off a probable national championship run. A statement for them is beating unranked teams two weeks in a row.

If that doesn’t tell you the trajectory of these two programs….

Imagine living in that Shithole and then blowing $200 or more on a TEXAS flag just to orient it KIND OF "upside-down" on the roof of said Shithole.  Lulz.

Even idiot fan bases panic when they realize they are about to actually have competition year in and year out.  Same thing aggy, tech, ou, etc. do to us.  Bama fans are freaking out right now about the prospect of if not playing us every year then at least having to best us for a shot at a conference title.

  7. Just had a beer with my BIL.  He was in his employer's suite for the epic aggy beatdown last weekend.  He said *at best* there were 10-15k in the stands and that his bosses have been pimping non-premium seats out to employees left and right.  Apparently aggy is at the point of just giving big chunks of seats to historically big donors to get butts in seats.

He said his boss told him he had been given about 700 tickets to give away for their cream puff opponent next weekend.  One of his project managers got almost half a row of club seats when he asked for tickets to the Alabama game.

I love how he absolutely savages aggy but then it political enough to say he is a season ticket holder of a "professional team" so as not to alienate any of his followers.  Shows what a worthless demographic aggy is.

Texas A&M plans facility near NASA to prepare for moon visits..

    https://tinyurl.com/2cfucckl

The new team, which includes Ambrose, hopes to develop an indoor rock yard at the facility where they can simulate lighting conditions on the moon. On the lunar South Pole, where NASA missions intend to land, the sun is never more than 5 degrees above the horizon. This creates a blinding light when traveling toward the sun and mile-long shadows when traveling away from the sun.

    New A&M moon campus!

This enrages me.  $200mm of state money to....simulate lighting conditions.  Unreal.  The tex leg continues to blow money by sending packages like this to aggy.  Their academics aren't anywhere near where they should be for projects like this.  There isn't a single graduate of aggy that should be anywhere near something like the space program.  This is the definition of things a bunch of rednecks will never be able to do or understand.  This money should flow to universities who would be seen as adults in the room for these types of projects.  aggy should be allocated $25k to study "make seed to be plant" or some shit.

Now if you want to bash the HEB commercials I’m all for it.

Also the game on Saturday was at night, and on Fox.

If you were watching the Friday night replay on Saturday at lunch on ATTSW of course they’re gonna show Astros promotions. Kind of their job.

This was yesterday, Sunday, which is also part of the weekend.  First pitch was at 110pm according to the TV schedule.  We were hungover so lunch was later than it usually would be.  We sat down maybe around the third inning.  My fries has the most delightful hint of rosemary; not overwhelming but just right to really brighten up the dish.

  12. So I was in Houston this weekend for a wedding and the Astros game was on during lunch with some friends at a sportsbar.  I hadn't seen the Astros broadcast in ages but it really struck me how weird it is that in all their commercials for Astros stuff (merch, omg tickets for the game next week, etc.) they show the same shots of Alvarez's home run during the world series.  It's so aggy, they were barely alive in that series and Alvarez totally lucked out to "turn the game upside down" but yet they play the damn thing like it is the biggest moment in sports history.  tbh it was kind of sad seeing my Astros-fan friends getting all jacked up by it.

  13. Explain how .300 isn't feasible.  Their two best hitters just got back and historically have taken some time to catch their mojo - time they don't have right now.  Their pitching staff is already bruised and battered and faltering even more down the stretch.  They are already damn near fielding a minor league staff some days.  There aren't many, if any, good trade options for them like they had in 2017.  Last night was the first adversity they've faced against a top tier team all season and they fell apart - and that's with the hard part of their schedule yet to play (including @ Rangers).

Going in to next year they have an aging core and have emptied to cupboard for prospects.  I see zero bright spots for them.

Shooting off fireworks because you're no longer down double digits was really adorable

Sadly that's the full on panic from anyone who works for, in or around the Astros.  They are flashing back to the astros historical attendance norm and realizing they are all fucked.  I have a buddy who is pretty high up in a contractor at minute maid and he said they are rolling out plans to slim down staffing if this year continues to go down the toilet.

If this team continues to implode and goes .300 over the remaining games this season they full well know opening day next year is 5,000 people playing hooky from work.  The Astros are about to go back where they belong, the sewer of baseball.

Not to be a dick, but if you think that all you need to know about meat is if it is rotten or not, I am going to assume you eat Walmart sirloins, well done, with ketchup.

    CHIEF

I certainly select and eat good meat but, guess what, I didn't need to be in college for 4 years to learn how to do that.  The other comment about bubba at the bait shop grading sushi is accurate too - these "meat scientists" are the dumbest and the dumb college students and even with 4 years of education they aren't going to be better than bubba in the bait shop.

I know processed meats and BigAg are massive industries.  But most of what they're teaching in these programs at A&M could just as easily, and more effectively, be taught in myriad ag/livestock/processing plant hubs around the state with a certificate program-styled model.  No need for 120 hours over 5 years at a massive university with cumbersome G&A overhead and administrative bloat.

I mean, yeah between a chicken plant supervisor with a college degree and one that learned on the job as an apprentice, society is better off with the one with both a technical skill and a well-rounded education.  Problem with A&M is they somehow manage to produce graduates who have the technical skills, but somehow regress in terms of critical thinking and original thought over their 4-6 years in College Station.  It's really quite remarkable.  They become wholistic dummies by having attended.  I don't get it.

I couldn't agree more.  In all honesty you don't even need a certificate type system.  99.9% of what's taught in the food science/ag science schools is just "don't be dumb".

Meat Science - for example - should be like 1 hour of training: standard restaurant food safety training, how to make the cuts, and how to detect anything that's rotten.

There it is.  I literally just condensed a 4 year degree in to a FREAKING LINE OF TEXT.  Granted the average redneck farmer in the US is probably going to have an IQ of like 10 so it might take reading that line a few times, but the point still stands.

Next time some rural "old school" Texan tells you that colleges in this state waste money on worthless classes in shit like History, Literature, and Humanities.  Remind them how much "we" spend on meat judging and figuring out ways to get animals to pork each other.

Don't forget other super high end classes in the Ag school like "Put seed in ground, make big plant 301 ", "Cut plant, take to market", and of course "Use Fence Keep Animal Where you Want 505."

Food is important, sure, but there shouldn't be a state funded school vaporizing money for 4 year degrees that are just common sense.

I had to google to confirm this was an actual thing at aggy and not a joke.

They are using state dollars to "teach" this useless crap.  That's money that's not available to other universities that actually, you know, educate their students.  The damage that aggy does to higher education in this state is unreal.

Also apparently when you are an idiot redneck you have to wear a hard hat to look at pieces of meat.  Odd grocery stores don't have the same rules.  I guess that says something about the ability of your average stocker at HEB vs. your average aggy "student"

Seems incredibly unlikely to the point where I wonder if I just missed the satire.

It's not satire.  It's just frustrating.  This isn't TAPPS 2A where everybody has to be given a right to play and compete.  This is a huge, valuable, high stakes business and if someone isn't contributing at the highest levels they should be part of the payout.

Sec was an antiquated version of what it is now. A&M and Missouri brought modern offenses to a league that was playing like it was the 90s. Fire in a bottle. Look at both programs now that SEC adjusted to modern times. I knew that would be your reply as soon as I hit enter. Now change out your tampon Geoff

I'm starting to think more and more that aggy was a means to an end for the SEC (both in terms of modernizing and also in getting us on board finally).  I'm starting to also believe that some of the negotiations going on right now involve aggy and one other cellar dweller getting the boot from the SEC when we join with ou.  Consider their conference history:

    SWC Days: Different world
Big 12 Days: Got in because of big brother and our desire to avoid state-level pushback.  See also: Baylor, tech, etc.
SEC v1: Brought Texas-based eyeballs to the SEC for the first time, huge win for the SEC
SEC v2(upcoming): SEC no longer needs their Texas-based eyeballs, we bring that in a much more dramatic fashion.  aggy provides no further value to the conference.

If you think about it it is quite enraging that aggy is going to get an equal share of conference revenue going forward.  Texas brings way more shine both inside and outside of Texas.  aggy has DISMAL TV numbers (typically the worst in the SEC) and they've embarrassed the conference every year.  Their academics and their on-field product both suck as well.

Perhaps the SEC is working to just write them a check they can use to pay off their perennially empty stadium or to buy their crappy coach out along with a note that says "Bye Felicia!"
