Fell asleep trying to watch the Bob Lazar aliens documentary. Anyone seen it?

I watched it and thought the documentary was boring trash (mainly due to the director). Much better/interesting watching the Joe Rogan Experience interview w/Bob Lazar on YouTube.

  2. So far this year I've been to:

    Ghost (Oslo)

    Avatar (Helsinki)

Parkway Drive / Killswitch Engage (OKC)

    and plan on going to:

    Avatar (Las Vegas)

    Jinjer (OKC)

There's a lot of concerts I want to go to in September and October, but not sure if I can make them since my first is supposed to be born at the end if September.

  3. I've had my LG V30 for just over 2 years now, and I still think it's the best overall phone on the market. Waterproof, headphone jack, DAC, wireless charging, great battery life, best fingerprint reader on the market, dual camera with a wide-angle lens, GCam compatible, slim bezels, etc. The only negative is the slower update cycle, but that is relatively minor. This is the first phone I've owned that I have zero desire to replace.

  4. Saw Avatar for the first time when they opened for Trivium, back in October of 2018. I did a 2 week trip to Sweden, Norway, and Finland at the end of February and was able to catch them headlining at Nosturi in Helsinki. They put on an amazing show! I highly recommend checking them out this summer at one of the big Rock festivals or in the fall when they headline the USA.

Have a long trip coming up. Trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on a switch to help pass the travel time.

List: Switch, screen protector, case pro controller, stand, and 3-4 games (zelda, mario odyssey, mario kart, ???)

    Thoughts?

I say get the switch. I got one last Christmas and I love it. The game selection is really incredible for an ultra-portable console. If you pull the trigger, the only must-have accessories are:

    ·         Tempered Glass Screen Protector (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1531419415&sr=1-6&keywords=switch+accessories)

    ·         Largest SD card you can afford (this is what I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1)

From here, what accessories you need is greatly influenced by how you intend to play (handheld, docked, screen propped up + detach controller). For me, I thought that I would only play the console while docked, so I got a Pro Controller first. In practice, I probably spend 90% of my playtime using the Switch in handheld mode and 10% of the time docked. I have yet to use the Switch with it propped-up and the controller detached (I just find it more comfortable to just play it in handheld mode). I’ve also learned that some games I prefer playing in different ways.

For example, I played Mario Odyssey 90% of the time docked with a Pro Controller, and 10% handheld. It was a lot easier to chain together the controller inputs with the pro controller, and using the “motion” controls with the pro controller was a lot safer than trying to do that with the Switch in your hand. Conversely, I am currently going through Zelda BOTW and I play that almost 100% in handheld mode, because I find aiming my bow shots easier that way (gyro controls+ screen being in your hand makes it real easy to line up shots to where it “almost” feels like I’m using a mouse).

So I would just go ahead and buy a Switch and play with it in a bunch of different ways before your trip, and then go from there. If you have any other questions just let me know!

  6. When I bought a new mattress, I had done a bunch of research and realized I preferred a softer mattress. I wanted something similar to memory foam but slept cooler. I ended up deciding on going with a latex mattress (no dust mites, faster acting foam so you don't have that memory foam sinking feeling, much cooler sleep because air can freely move throughout the mattress) and went to a local latex foam manufacturer. On site they had 8 different beds, each with different firmness/softness and I ended up telling them which I liked best.

They then took 1 week to make a new mattress and delivery to my house. Overall, it was probably 20% more expensive than buying a mattress online from Casper or the equivalent, but I got exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier, and what's nice is latex doesn't settle like other mattresses. No need to flip it ever.

  7. I hate to throw out this cliche term, but Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima truly look next-gen. If all of that was truly gameplay and not doctored in anyway (which I believe it is all legit), there are some incredible contextual animations going on in real time.

Also- All you dorks need to listen to their cover of Roky Erickson's IF YOU HAVE GHOSTS. Just a beautiful cover with a tremendous finish.

This is one of my favorite covers of all time. It really shows how talented Tobias is for taking a cool, raw, and schizophrenic rock song and making it an organized, melodic masterpiece.

  9. This is a very interesting Ghost album -- I would say it is less focused tonally than other albums   (Rats & Dance Macabre are very 80's sounding, Pro Memoria almost has a Broadway/show-tunes vibe with how the chorus is sung, Helvetesfönster has a cool medieval sound, Miasma is very proggy...), but thematically is very solid. I also noticed that the bass line in a lot of the songs are more intricate and standout musically more than on previous albums. I don't think there is a bad or throwaway song on the album, but definitely some songs may only interest me when I am in a certain mood while listening.

IMO, the songs can be broken down into the following tiers:

Solid (depends on my mood if I can get into them)

    • See The Light
    • Life Eternal

    Good

    • Pro Memoria

    Really Good

    • Ghost Witch
    • Miasma
    • Helvetesfönster (probably the best name of any song ever: link)

    Really, Really (Fucking) Good

    • Ashes+Rats
    • Dance Macabre
    • Faith

  10. Braved the unkempt masses and went to Rocklahoma yesterday... Ended up seen Pop Evil, Clutch, Vince Neil, and Ghost (did not care to stick around for Godsmack at all).

Pop Evil - Terrible. Not a fan of their music when I hear it on the radio, but live it's obvious the singer cannot sing at all.

Clutch - Fan-fucking-tastic! I'm familiar with a few Clutch songs, but everything they played sounded great and was just fun to listen to. I will definitely catch them the next time they come around.

Vince Neil - I would say he probably sounds like he did back in the 80s. That is, I don't think he could ever sing perfectly live. His voice was strong and not strained, he just couldn't hit keep pitch well. Having said that, his new backing band is fantastic. Vince left the stage (probably to do blow off some chick's tits) and the rest of his band did a cover of Heaven and Hell. The guitarist who sang absolutely killed it. I will definitely look up who that is and check out some of his other work.

Ghost - They are the reason I went, and they didn't disappoint. Just a fun band that puts on an amazing live show, even at an outdoor venue.

Not positive I dig that latest Ghost song. It's got a catchy beat.  It's ok. I wish they get harder instead of softer (that's what she said).

For what it is worth, I just saw Ghost live last night, and they played another new song called "Faith" -- much heavier and more riff-y than Rats and Dance Macabre. Check it out.

Pro controller is a must for TV play.

These are the two must haves. I'd also recommend something to use while in handheld mode to give you more grip. I personally have both of these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0773KT5VS?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title

The silicone grips are more comfortable than the grip case, but they slide around and can be annoying.

The grip case is nice, but the hard plastic grips will hurt your hands after a while.

Pick your poison, but you will definitely want something for more grip.

Is this game better than the first two games? Does the combat actually have any depth?  I remember the series being a cinema fest with only having to press two or three buttons to get through the game.

It is better than the first two games.

Granted I am only about 2 hours in, but it definitely feels like it has more depth. You still have the Light Attack, Heavy Attack, Block, Dodge/Roll gameplay where you chain different light and heavy attacks to do certain combos; however, you also have the ability to aim and throw your axe, have your boy shoot shit with arrows (even mid combo), and it seems like every type of ability can be upgraded. Not to mention you can place rubes in your axe to unlock additional special abilities.

You can still probably get through the game spamming one or two buttons, but the depth is there to utilize.

IMO it is definitely more advanced than God if War 1-3.

I’m glad it didn’t happen but I think Chris Paul would have a similar impact on wins had he gone to the Thunder and Paul to the Rockets. Russ moves to SG and has someone to teach him how to win.

I just got to say, thinking that Chris Paul can teach anyone about winning is fresh, considering CP3's biggest knock has been that he has won fuckall, even though he is one of the best PGs to play in the past 10 years.
