You're not wrong.  But yeah, there were young teens doing hard drugs at HP 35-40 years ago.  It's everywhere.  I'm not sure I'd say "prevalent" like in some of the poorer schools, perhaps, but there's no escape.

Drug overdose is what killed a well known HP restaurateur recently. Toxicology results are still out but apparently he took a hot dose. A real shame I guess but he'd been noodling around playing roulette with this stuff for awhile.

And just as an edit, I know of five guys in their 40s who have either killed themselves(hanging or eating a gun barrel) or OD'd in the Park Cities since Thanksgiving. All were married with kids.

  2. In Qatar many ponder if a guest foreign journalist should foist colonist Western viewpoints regarding socially accepted foreign norms on a deeply religious culture that is not accepting of those colonial constructs. Flips that guy wearing a rainbow t-shirt and throwing editorials out left and right into a colonizing hypocrite in the Muslim world. He becomes the person he is conditioned to hate the most.

  3. NWS has a busted weather forecast for DFW. They placed nearly all counties in North Texas under a Flash Flood Watch on Saturday. Not a drop of rain in the DFW area. TV weather forecasters threw all their chips into the pot with dire rain predictions Saturday night into Sunday morning. Not a drop.

I was literally about to post at the end of this thread that we should all meet up and continue this conversation at King's X.   For those that haven't been it's fantastic.   Wendy pours em strong.

Ever read the story of Don Nelson and the King's X? I can't find it now. Old story about how he would go hang out there when he was the Mavericks coach. He loved it there because no one gave a shit who he was. A drinking hole of a bar. Loved the story.

  5. Audelia/Forest is where the majority of Hurricane Katrina refugees were sent in Dallas. The apartments over there are gladiator academies where young criminals hone their craft. Their activities bleed out into nearby neighborhoods like Lake Highlands.

Fortunately there are a lot of young homeowner families that have moved back into Lake Highlands. This violence crapola in the apartments with alley burglaries and robberies in Lake Highlands is being addressed by younger homeowners taking a stand. It's getting better. It will take awhile.

Five Points/Vickery Meadow is completely third world now. Scenes from Mogadishu. There are some weird unexplained things that you can see on Melody Lane, Ridgecrest or even at the nearby Wal-Mart.

  6. Wildfire last several weeks burned up most of the late Texas author John Graves ranch outside of Glen Rose. Real shame that. Most people might not know of him but for those that do it's a real hard one to take.

  7. Chalk Mountain Fire might make a run on Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant later today. It's still several miles away from the fire but in the direct line of it and the transmission lines will be impacted for sure. Somervell County is getting ready to activate their nuclear emergency plan.

It burned through famous Texas writer John Graves ranch Hardscrabble last night, which I am heartbroken about. If you have read anything he ever wrote about Texas it's a loss. Might burn through some of Dinosaur Valley State Park too.

Every cop in that hallway should be arrested. Especially the hand sanitizer guy. Complete lack of caring. If any cop or Leo doesn't stand up calling for action they are just as guilty.

This was the preeminent singular act of courage and heroism by the law enforcement in Uvalde on that fateful day.
Which was of course the one brave man in uniform risking his life to sanitize his hands as school kids were being slaughtered.

The grid condition is now “yellow,” which means “energy conservation is requested.”

On the graphs it shows a drop of 4MW right at 2pm 7/11/22. I wonder what went off line to cause that.

  10. 2011 was bad but in many parts of Texas there was ample rainfall in winter 2010-2011 and into spring. Did not get that in 2022.

1980 was really bad, much worse than 2011.

2015-2021 saw many in Texas with flooding rains and generally nice conditions. Seems we are back into a dry period this year. It happens. Embrace it and toughen up. It's what makes Texas, Texas.

  11. Does this story reach the previously achieved gold standard of the diaper wearing NASA astronaut? Maybe. The yoga mat going everywhere with her adds some style points.

Cue the self defense, mental abuse, and she knows she wouldn't get a fair trial defense.  $10 says she will use one or all three.

All that mileage on the run and she only lasted 43 days out in the cold with $12,000. Not much of a run. She could have camped out under a bridge along the river and lasted longer.

Gotta give this bitch some credit for her ability to evade for over a month. Going to be tough long term though as the money runs out unless she can successfully transition to a new identify and find work.

She hid out with her sister in New York. Her sister works at a remote summer camp/RV Park. She hid there for a few weeks before heading to the Newark airport. Her sister applied for a NY State Driver's license a day before the suspect was seen at the Newark Airport. Since both sisters look similar one could pass for the other.

I assume she used her sister's identity for a brief amount of time to cover up her tracks after her confirmed sighting at the Newark Airport.

Assuming she has $12,000 roughly, her burn rate of money could be pretty low in the summer months if she stayed in the USA. I would doubt she would go overseas unless she had a strong network of trusting friends in some other country. Internationally, she'd be pinched quicker than here in the USA. Key to that is not drive anywhere or go places where ID's are checked.

I'm impressed that the US Marshals did not check up with her family and knowing that her sister lived in a remote mountain camp in NY. The oddball maintenance man of the RV park said he spoke to the suspect quite a bit and she walked around without hiding anything.

  13. Philmont Scout Ranch is reporting that since seasonal staff(college age) reported for summer work that 63 cases have been reported in the last couple days among a total of about 1300 staff. Sort of a big outbreak. I was told it's nearly all unvaccinated Mormons which make up a number of staff and participants. Seems that covid spread instantly across those who were not immunized.

My son is in Boy Scouts and headed up there in a few weeks for a 10 day trek. That would suck to come down with covid out in the mountains and have to hike to an area where you can be taken back to base camp.

She boarded a flight at ABIA to Houston Hobby

    wanna get away?

She flew from there to New York on May 14th. US Marshals will find her eventually. They always do. She won't be able to drop from the grid.
