A glimmer of truth. The reality is we’ve just played the two worst teams in the Big 12, and don’t have an easy game left on our schedule. OSU/KSU back to back on the road is tough.

Good news is we have a BYE between the OkSt & KState games - and KState plays OkSt the week before the play us, so we'll have an extra week of rest.

There’s no limit on backdoors though (that’s what she said). Pre or Post Tax TIRAs, you could always convert every year, or 5 years, or at some dollar figure X, correct?

As long as the tax man is satisfied when you make the conversion, or is my understanding FUBAR’d?

Yes, there are limits.  You can contribute up to $5,500 in 2018 and $6,500 if over 50 years old (looks like this amount will be increased by $500 for 2019). You can contribute more than these limits each year, but the IRS penalizes you 6%. I think you have until the Federal income tax deadline to make your contribution for that tax year, i.e. until April 2019 for your 2018 Roth contribution.

I may have misunderstood your question, but...Keeping the tax man happy becomes more complicated if your Roth conversion includes pre-tax funds (i.e. from a Rollover IRA). Read up on the pro-rata rule. Any pre-tax IRA money you convert to Roth needs to be taxed at your Fed income level. For example, if 50% of your total IRA funds are pre-tax, then the IRS requires you pay Fed income tax on 50% of your Roth conversion. There is paperwork involved to document, adjust and track pre-tax balances moving forward. Before you do a Roth conversion its cleaner to "roll in" any pre-tax IRA funds into your 401k.

Here's our 3 legged table that is done except for the finish. Put some bloodwood bowties in which I regretted because they are hard af and took forever to sand down flush. That is probably why they laughed at me when I bought the bloodwood board at Woodcraft.

Also a better pic of the kiln.

Looks great - nice work.  Wish I had the time to do something like that.  I have a slab of Pecan that's been sitting in my garage for a few years.

    Any of those actual starters?

Not really but losing depth at DB and DE will hurt.

    - Sylvie was competing for a starting spot at Safety, which might be their weakest position after losing both 2017 starters to graduation.

    - Redmond (DE/LB) would have cracked the 2-deep to help fill the void left by Okoronkwo.  Scary health situation for Redmond, hope he recovers.

Damn (FTETTM) is such a fantastic series. Hanks and Opie knocked it out of the park.

Thanks for the reminder about this series - need to find time to watch.

Also check out When We Left Earth that aired on Discovery Ch (2008).  All 6, 1-hr episodes are available via Discovery's website (but you need to login with your TV Provider).

WWLE provides a very broad, yet interesting, overview of the entire space program beginning with the Mercury missions and ending with the International Space Station.

What I thought this series did very well was presenting the issues/challenges that each mission aimed to solve, with each mission building upon the previous mission, which results in steady progression towards the goal of putting a man on the moon and learning more about our galaxy.

    • E1: Ordinary Supermen - the Mercury missions
    • E2: Friends and Rivals - the Gemini missions
    • E3: Landing the Eagle - Apollo 1 thru 11
    • E4: The Explorers - Apollo 12 thru 17
    • E5: The Shuttle - the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Space Telescope
    • E6: A Home in Space - Hubble cont. + Int'l Space Station

    Any word on Port Royal?

Took the fam for opening weekend June 1-4, just got back.  Fantastic trip!

tldr: main building needs some work, pool-facing condos at about 75%, ocean-facing condos at 100%, pools/slides/beaches in excellent shape - maybe in even better shape.

The main building closest to 361 is out of service - the top floor, including the restaurant, has been gutted as well as the ground floor lobby area - staff said this main building took the most damage as it was broadside to the counterclockwise hurricane winds.  Out front they have a temporary building with offices and some food trucks (pizza, burgers, etc.). The buildings on either side of the pool appeared fully repaired - new AC units, paint, etc. (though some of the top floor balcony roofs were waiting to be installed).  The buildings facing the ocean were in the best shape and nearly at 100%.

The pools, slides, and surrounding grounds looked amazing.  The main swim-up bar was open but the roof is being replaced - the swim-up burger hut near the slide was taken out but looks like it will be rebuilt at some point.  The beaches looked the best I've seen them, I think they are scrapping the beaches weekly/daily to remove the extra debris, which also removes the seaweed.

Great summer to get down to the coast and support the rebuild.

Get her ring size, then start cruising around pawn shops. Serious as a heart attack. Find some unique vintage piece of jewelry at a smidge more than melt value of the metal.

Then you either tell her it came from a pawn shop,

Or you say you had it special-made for her by a jeweler who specializes in one-off vintage-style pieces.

    Your call.

This.  If she's interested in vintage, I suggest giving AJ at Abercrombie Gems + Precious Metals a visit.  Family-owned from Austin, good dude.

One or the RBs, Porter, Houston, Carter, Young have to be gone right?

We currently have 82 scholarship players, which will jump to 83 once OL Calvin Anderson arrives.  No one has to leave to make room for Watson.

  10. Guns of August: The Outbreak of World War I (Tuchman) - brilliant writing, fascinating read

Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West (Ambrose) - soooo good

Down the Great Unknown: John Wesley Powell's 1869 Journey of Discovery and Tragedy Through the Grand Canyon (Dolnick) - One-armed man leads first white-man expedition through the Grand Canyon

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 (Wright) - Pulitzer Prize winner, current Hulu series

Into the Wild AND Into Thin Air (Krakauer) - two more adventure recs, very well written

You might also like stuff by Bowden: Black Hawk Down AND Killing Pablo are my favorites of his

Just finished Red Rising.  Not a bad book, but after having read the Hunger Games and a few others of that genre, it seemed kind of just more of the same.  Going to read the next book to see if it gets more interesting as I think it sets up an cool universe.

I had the same reaction while reading parts of Red Rising. I stuck with it and recently finished the series - glad I did. I thought each book was better than the last.

Thanks for bringing this over, Hellraiser97.  This was my only Shag post I wanted to preserve for the move to Surly.

I recently finished the Red Rising Trilogy. I had been catching up on classics (Neuromancer, Brave New World, Snow Crash, Childhood's End, Forever War) and wanted to read something more recent.  Overall, Red Rising < Golden Son < Morning Star.  After finding parts of Red Rising underwhelming, I thought the series got better and better - loved books #2 and #3.  I'll probably circle back and some point to Iron Gold to continue the series.
