  1. We stayed at the Grand Minerva and it was nice.  Not Four Seasons nice but nice enough.   Good location to walk to everything.  Rooftop bar has cool views of the Duomo and the city.  Second 4 Leoni rec.  We also liked 13 Gobbi, a cool little trattoria.  To be honest, though, not sure Firenze is a get away from touristy stuff if that's your goal?  Of course I've never been there in December, so maybe I'm off on that.

I appreciate you posting these notes / updates, but I no longer think IT has any idea what's happening inside the program. The contrast between what was said during the offseason and what we've seen on the field is damning. OTF has taken a serious credibility hit with me as well. I know that the 9.95 credo is "tell the fans what they want to hear" but I am still pissed at how many platitudes we were fed without any hint of criticism or concern.

Agree.  Shine has completely worn off OTF for me.

Yep.  The greedy, money hungry LIV players like Cantlay don't give a shit about playing for tradition and history are the problem.  The Euros, all PGA Tour guys, played for free, for pride.

Which LIV team does Cantlay play on?

Visitors to El Paso might fall into the "Chicos is okay" opinion. Being from El Paso, you either love it or hate it, I'm in the hate group.

I actually preferred Kiki's Restaurant over L&J my last couple of visits to town.

Too bad Elemi moved out of downtown. James Beard semifinalist and definitely worth the drive across town.

Kiki's machaca is the best in the city.  Can't go wrong there.  Just not across from a graveyard like L&J.

I'm also attending that same concert but staying a little further out in downtown because it was completely free due to hotel points so probably just parking at the venue. What are some good places to get some breakfast tacos? I figure we're going to hit up Franklin Mountains State Park before we head back.

Drive up to Lucy's on Mesa near UTEP.  Classic old school EP dive.  You can drive by the Sun Bowl on your way up or back.  L&J would be great too and would be on the way to the State Park if you're doing that (or even if you don't).

  6. Stay at either the Paso del Norte or Plaza Hotel, which is across the street from the Plaza and recently redone by Paul Foster.  Either are great and both have great rooftop bars.  Eat at either Anson 11 or Cafe Central - which are steps from either hotel - or walk three blocks to Park Tavern, which is really good.  L&J is worth a stop for lunch if you have time.

I know EP's reputation, but fuck if it doesn't piss me off when people think they're going to be murdered just stepping foot in the city.  It's a great place to live or visit and very safe.   I honestly feel safer in EP than I do in Houston.  Maybe it's the El Pasoan in me.

Enjoy the concert and the food.

Sun City is a retirement community near Georgetown, TX and a town in AZ

And El Paso's nickname is "the Sun City".

  8. Simmons had a hands to the face which was actually flagged as a facemask on the third down where we had stopped them.  They went on to score on that drive.  Lefau was called for a hands to the face on the same play where he was held in the end zone which negated a safety.

  9. Feel bad for all the Bama fans having to listen to Joe T. on the broadcast.  No bigger beating than listening to him when your team is struggling (see: Peach Bowl v. ASU).

I heard it both to and from Vegas last week

They've announced the same deal on every flight I've been on the past couple of weeks.  Looks like it's a new AI predictive policy:

    New SWA Gate Check Policy

    Spoiler

Southwest could end up gate-checking more bags thanks to this policy

After Southwest changed its free-bags policy, it's inevitable that more people are going to try to bring carry-ons on board the flight. Sadly, the company is dealing with this in a way that could cause more headaches for passengers.

"We’re using a machine learning tool that predicts the number of gate-check bags needed for each flight, which enables our teams to act early and keep the operation running smoothly," Chief Operating Officer Andrew M. Watterson said in a recent Southwest earnings call for the second quarter.

Of course, if the airline is predicting early when it is going to need to gate-check bags, this could mean people have their bags snagged by an airline official and forced into being gate-checked, even if the overhead bins are not yet full.

There's very little that infuriates passengers more than having their bags taken while boarding the flight, and then getting on the plane and finding empty overhead bins where they easily could have placed the luggage.

Passengers are already complaining about Southwest Airlines gate-checking bags

Southwest passengers have already experienced this issue with bags being gate-checked, despite there being plenty of room on board.

View from the Wing reported on several passengers tweeting their anger over the last few weeks of July, with one X user, Steve Schoenherr, tweeting out, "Is this a new policy or a control issue to check bags for flights with many empty seats and compartments completely open at takeoff?"

Unfortunately, this is inevitably going to keep happening, as machine learning isn't perfect.

I like some of the new stuff from Roback (their hoodies, NOT their shirts), and I like the stuff from Mizzen and Maine quite a bit, but I balk at shelling out $130 bucks for a polo when there are so many other options. Criquet has some team stuff too, and I love Criquet, but as said, I've got plenty of other stuff already. If any of that helps you.

Yep, getting harder and harder to pull the trigger on polos now that $130 or higher is the going price for nice ones.  But I'll probably do it anyway.  Also seems to me that the Coop has a crappier selection this year as compared to previous years.

it’s also way too big on me now along with most of my gear so I’m currently on the hunt for a new polo or something.

Tirzepitide is a blessing and a curse, right?
