  2. Saw Kevin Morby and the OMG band on Tuesday at the Showbox at the Market. I only stumbled upon Morby about a month ago so pretty fortunate timing. Was a great show. Played most of his latest album and other assorted hits. As a bonus, I got to see Danger Mouse playing bass for the opener, Sam Cohen, which was a pleasant surprise.

Also saw Weyes Blood last night at the Tractor Tavern. Her voice is even more incredible live which I didn’t think was possible given the heavy production on Titanic Rising. She’s a pretty talented frontwoman with a presence about her. Kind of reminded me of Jenny Lewis.

On the downside, her guitarist was pretty meh. Being a guitarist, I’m probably overly-critical of live guitar work. Even still, poor/no tone, and I was expecting a lot more on the slide guitar for Andromeda. Was barely even audible. She needs to replace her guitarist.

  3. I just discovered Wolf Parade myself as my brother turned me onto the Divine Fits’s only album over thanksgiving. I don’t know how the helI missed it. Have listened to it no less than 20 times since then.

Anyway, I listened to 41,424 minutes of music this yr and top 5 artists were:
    1) Car Seat Headrest
    2) St. Vincent
    3) Beach House
    4) Amen Dunes
    5) The Strokes

My favorite musical subgenre at the moment is Modern Rock. I look fwd to exploring further and listening to even more music in 2019.

  4. Maybe my absolute favorite legacy ShaggyBevo annual post.

This year was very strong for female musicians. I agreed w most of the above so far but for some reason Lush didn’t really grab me as much but only gave it a single spin. Maybe I need to revisit.

I’ll post my list when I have some free time. Thanks for starting OP!

  6. If he gets another pick before 2020 then that is confirmation that there truly is no God. And no doubt McConnell is already preparing his speech as to why the Senate needs to confirm the nominee and how this is different from Garland

Thanks to Reid’s dumbassery he doesn’t even need to prepare a speech. Hey, McConnell tried to warn him.

  7. God no.  There's plenty of snark to go around here.   Surly gonna surl man.
Don't get your fee-fees hurt when you get called out for telling a guy who wants to spend $200 "hey, for a few hundred more go get you a ...."  THAT was the asshole move here.  It's why your butt is hurting, not mine.

My butt ain’t hurting. He even said, “I’d LIKE to stay below $250.” Since I didn’t detect an imminent need for a show or anything given he said it would be only a tertiary guitar, thought he could might wait and save from a couple more paychecks or something. Was only trying to be helpful.

Anyway, I hope you have a great day :)

  8. You seem unclear on the concept.

Is this some sort of attempt at an Okie Lite humblebrag?

Lmao! A little salty ab the game? Just one man’s opinion. Thought the music board was one place free of snark except for turribad music opinions. Duly noted. If I wanted to humble brag I’d post a pic of my Les Paul again Chad Fuckhead.

“You get what you pay for, and baby it’s free...”

  9. Mentioned this upthread, but CSH at Brooklyn Steel recently was probably a top 10 show for me. Here is a decent clip of their opener (a bad ass Lou Reed cover).

That was kick ass, thanks for re-sharing.

  10. Saw Car Seat Headrest this Friday at Showbox Market by Pike Place Market. For personal reasons it was a transcendent experience.

They opened up with Bullet With Butterfly Wings which rocked. I have video of it but it’s a little grainy. But sounds is good if people request.

  11. 2 hours ago, Art Vandelay said:

Another interesting tidbit on Four Sticks...Bonham's frustration at not being able to nail the drumming on that track led him to launch into the drum intro of a Little Richard song while the tapes were still rolling. Page immediately started playing a riff to it, and the song "Rock 'n Roll" was born.

Never knew that, that's pretty awesome.  Even more incredible Page created an incredible original riff on the fly (only halfway joking).

  12. Where do millenials find new music? I look at the music festival lineups and there are a lot of bands that aren't on the radio, even headliners.

Anywhere but the radio. I used this website as a good resource years ago and since then added Spotify, pitchfork, and albumoftheyear.org

  13. Car Seat Headrest at the Fillmore in July.

Seeing Stephen Malkmus and Amen Dunes in August.

Might see Beach House for SubPop's 30th Celebration because their music finally clicked for me after 7 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
