Ok, this is amazing to me. It's like he wasn't taught better, or his morals were somehow flexible because of his station in life?  And this is what we want on the SCOTUS?   Do you really feel other justices have such an entitled misogynistic  background?   Again, as others have said, there is something way more to all this than meets the eye.  Trump or someone else wants him there for some specific reason.

I guess my point is that all this grade D doucheiness would have been blown right by if not for Ford coming forward, and I think that's horribly wrong.

Everyone wants to pin shit on Beto for his past transgressions.  He admits them, owns up to them, hasn't repeated any and has found the lesson in each he needed to learn.

Not BK, all this crap is out there, the loans, the gambling, the 'beyond his means' house and club.   It's all right in line with the kind of person he was on track to be growing up.  His parents should be proud, right?

Fuck this asshole, fuck the orange tinycock and fuck the GOP.

How many lockers did you get shoved into?

i'm not at all hispanic, that i know of, but i've married into a very hispanic family. certain things have slipped into my lexicon like calling closer friends' daughters "mama," which has kind of been a learned unconscious behavior. i haven't taken the mija dive, because that would too much appropriation, but i've found myself appropriating that term.

i'm called mijo more than my own name by my in-laws' family.

i also work closely with colleagues in our london office and find myself conflating our english with their english from time to time. i still use "yall" when talking with them, but i find myself using words like "payrise" and referring to plural groups of people like a soccer team in a plural fashion. like "newcastle united are shit this year" which strongly contrasts to my saying "i think dallas is shit this year" when i refer to the football teams here.

it happens. beto grew up in a hispanic community, and got tagged with a nickname. my wife's grandfather (god rest his soul) used to call me by the diminutive spanish version of my english name. is that appropriation? if people called me that from a young age, and that's how people knew me, is that appropriation because i'm not hispanic?

    this thread is weak shit.

    You're clearly in ESL too.

I can't wait until OP is banned and gets to run off to some other site whining about how intolerant this place was of his abject idiocy and terrible posting style.

I already explained to you why your attempted point in the OP is completely incorrect.

Your principles and consistency apparently have nothing to do with facts and reality, that's the issue people have with you.

I know - you were the "but I have a black friend" guy.

If all you are looking to do is troll, all I'm looking to do is neg.  Good luck with your posting career here.

My intent was not to troll, and I own not reading the 500 pages of name-calling that is the other thread. FWIW, one of the things that fascinates me is double standards in political debates whether it be rape allegations or "cultural appropriation." We live in a world where so-called mainstream news reports on one person being mad because white people like yoga, yet no one seems to care that this guy "appropriates" a Hispanic American nickname? For the record, I kind of think the entire "cultural appropriation" argument is silly, but what fascinates me is people's ability to apply completely different standards and frames depending on whether it confirms or contradicts their biases.

You can say a lot about me - my favorite today is "shitgibbon" - but I am principled and consistent and do not move the goal posts. I realize that blows a bunch of people's minds, and if they need to snowflake and neg rep, so be it. It is not like my life revolves around this board.

I mean, athletes and celebrities have already been conditioned to things like LOI's and NDA's and signatures for consent to avoid the bullshittery, it's only a matter of time before the upper-middle class and those with a decent amount to lose (opportunities/jobs/scholarships/etc.) sees it as a good idea and we just see it as a normal thing to paper-up. Why not, everything else is done that way above a certain threshold, why not treat sex as a transaction as well?  That's all it is outside of a marriage anyways, it can be argued.

Agreed, but the argument goes she can retroactively rescind consent or signature, so it would lose its teeth.

I think if I were in college in 2019, I would jokingly/but seriously, provide some sort of LOI or docusign on a phone that a girl has to drunkenly sign before hooking up. There is just too much of the pendulum swinging to where a girl's hurt feelings or social standing can lead to her claiming rape.

Rape is one of those issues where the women's special interest groups have decided they don't want to be equal yet.

Oh, assume nothing. I described the ideal.

I'm well aware that we have only two approaches -- women must be believed no matter what, and any woman making an allegation is doing so for some nefarious reason and can't be believed.

LOL. Fair enough. That pretty much summarizes what the Politics board seems to have become since last call at the Cloak Room. Prophet Fucking Mohammed there are a bunch of humorless bigots over there these days.

  10. I do look forward to additional thoughtful, personal attacks, so thank you in advance for participating. It is always fun to shop at Kroger Field. That being said, regardless of her credibility or the truth, I think this sets a dangerous precedent that outweighs any tactical outcome. Additionally, the details of how this came out is suspect - at least they had the decency to Bork Bork and Thomas upfront; but I guess 0.500 was too risky.

Yes, I know I'm racist, sexist, homphobic, anti-BLT, anti-Islamic and hate the environment and puppies. Please add others as I so enjoy the creativity.

  11. Come on guys, there is a clever poster here. You can do better than that. My favorite is "But Beto has a Mexican friend" POV. Epic Snowsplaining.

I do apologize for the re-tread. I cannot read pages of stupidity on the other thread. However, not shocked on the double standards. Shocking. Next you're going to tell me you care about old rape accusations.

In all seriousness, this is a legitimate conundrum.  Two drunk people hook up -- both of them have unquestionably impaired judgment.  So much so that the ability of consent is in doubt.

So....why can't the male also allege that she raped him?  Indeed, we could surely come up with stories (of ourselves, a friend, etc.) where the male -- impaired by booze -- had a sexual encounter that, in the sober light of day, he regrets.  The hard truth is that he COULD make an assault claim.  This is a tough judgment call area for prosecutors and complainants.

There probably shouldn't be an absolute bright line, but likewise, I think that most folks genuinely know the difference between what's right and wrong; you KNOW when someone is impaired enough to not meaningfully consent, and you should stop your advances -- either male or female.  But there will always be some gray area -- and perhaps the lesson is "tread with caution" when you're anywhere near that gray area.  It may be just fine, even good -- your wife gets tipsy and frisky, and it's a great part of the relationship for both of you.  Or, it may be bad -- a new gal, who you don't know that well, acts the same way....but then regrets her choice when she sobers up.

You assume adult Americans are capable of having rational, objective conversations about tough issues without the emotional pollution of special interest groups.

As it stands, women can pretty much retroactively claim sexual assault without any real statute of limitations. No value judgment, but that's pretty much where it stands these days. I have two children, and I worry 5X more about sexual assault and my son than my daughter.

Let's assume these facts are correct.  So she was standing in a well lit hallway in front of what she thought was her own apartment,  she somehow opened the door {defective lock, left ajar, doesn't matter}, she saw a stranger 15 feet away and  yelled commands at him.  So far not unreasonable.    How the fuck does she go from there to shooting him?

Police arrogance is the only answer.   She shot him because she's a cop and he didn't follow her goddamn commands.

She should have stepped back, let the door close and called for backup.  It's not like the guy could exit from the back.   She was in no way in clear danger.

This. (Please Don't Answer)Didn't Capt. Obvious know she was next to the police station? Why didn't she just return to the hall and call the cops? (Yes, I know, she did not know it was her apartment so likely she would not realize the police station was across the street)

  14. So the National Socialists lose their shit about high school girls and prom dresses but are giving Bobby a pass for appropriating "Beto" from the horribly oppressed people of color? These fascists who go full snowflake over yoga don't seem to mind literally stealing a cultural identity? I thought a privileged white guys stealing from poor brownies was a recipe for full #metoo treatment. What gives?

  15. In all seriousness, this race is basically like life, which is formed in high school. One one side, there is the really smart nerd who is socially awkward and became a jack ass when he was getting bullied in middle school. In the other, the dumb privileged jock who's uber charming and never really had to work for much in life. Not shocking which one the Interwebs and M Streets love.

I don't like to throw around "white privilege" a whole lot, but is this not the definition of it? White dude knows black dude has a gun, and he fucking punches him anyway, and then has the audacity to claim that he never punched black dude! And he knows the black guy won't shoot his dumb ass. If the races were reversed here, is there any doubt that a white guy with the gun would have shot the black dude that punched him? And that he would have got away with it?

    This is unbelievable.

One of the privileges of being white definitely is having a person of color (ahem, not yellow or Asian brown) commit a felony against you.
