Crazy... LSU was 15 -0 last year

Now already 3 losses after only 5 games.  What's the record for most losses the year following an undefeated season with the same Head Coach??

Auburn in 2011 comes to mind.

Sad to say, but it has been about 20 years since I read the first 6. I know Dune hooked me hard and is one of the things I remember strongly about my first years of college. But yeah, i could definitely be mixing up the books after it.

Dune age appropriate to read to your 8 and 5 year old?

Not sure it would really grab their attention. There's quite a bit of philosophical and religious stuff which they might find boring or hard to understand.

The first book is great, and from what I remember 2 and 3 were also good. Somewhere around 4 or 5 it dragged quite a bit. I may have actually read a spark notes of the 5th one. Once it got past whichever that slow one was though, they all were enjoyable to very good.  Without spoilers, it is worth keeping going.

imo the second book is pretty weak. Herbert admitted as much before he died. I'd probably go 1st book then 3rd book, then 4th book then the last two with Dune Messiah closer to the bottom. I've also read most of his son's Dune books that he co-wrote with Kevin Anderson and they aren't bad at all. More so the ones which try to continue the story where it left off then the ones which give back story though the one talking about the machine revolution was good imo. They aren't that long either. You can easily read one a week. I recommend to anyone to finish the original 6 by Herbert sr and to finish the story as written by Herbert jr which is largely patterned after outlines done by his dad.

Question- JJ has 80 career wins in the NFL. What's the lowest win total for a coach in the HOF (assuming this isn't it)? Goes to show the impact he had on the game during his short time at the top of the league. The Cowboys are *still* among the most valuable sports franchises in the world despite not having been relevant for pretty much the last two decades, and imo that is not the case without JJ and his time in Dallas.

also, i did not know that he wasn't in the Cowboys Ring of Honor. LMAO, Jerry is so fucking petty.

It might be Lombardi with only 96.

Rhule won at Temple.  The freaking Temple Owls.  That is way more difficult than winning at Baylor, which wasn't easy considering the disaster he inherited.  Baylor may have been smoke & mirrors, but Rhule was the guy creating the smoke and moving around the mirrors.  Multiple NFL teams weren't chasing him for no reason.

Catching lightning in a bottle at a smaller school isn't that hard I would say. I can sit here and rattle off probably a dozen guys who did great things at some tiny fcs school over 2-3 years and parleyed that into a job at a much bigger program then proceeded to either fail miserably with better recruits and a much bigger fb budget or just be mediocre before eventually getting canned.

Texas won't be mediocre for long. I'm shocked at this decade. Urban Meyer is not acceptable at UT with the way he left tOSU. He may be acceptable at USC, but half of your power base would rather eat a bag of dicks before hiring that guy. Look somewhere else, and maybe following OU's example (the other BIG XII blue blood) in their hiring of Stoops and Riley might be the best decision. We have a very savvy AD, there's no reason UT can't get back up where it wants to be, and fast. One hire away, and no one is going to green light the hiring of Urban Meyer, so choose wisely, and you've got the talent there and a built-in recruiting base of top-tier high school kids who only ask "why should I NOT go to UT?", like Adrian Peterson back in 2003. Your high school kids grow up Longhorn fans, the talent can be there for your "Matt Rhule" hire.

Texas has already been mediocre for long. He left tosu ready to cruise into the playoff as the #1 team in the committee's rankings. Rhule and ou can both go eat dicks together.

Hope he decides to stay at Fox one more season

I think he is just waiting for a serious offer from sc or ut and that's it. Until then he can just cash checks to sit in the studio. I think he'd also go to nd if they offered but they are probably too holier than thou to go down that road.

I believe you're correct on the wins, and the on-field meltdowns makes sense. Didn't he piss his pants during a game after screaming at someone?

That sounds like something Pelini might do.

  9. Just now, Spider2YBanana said:

Ah, man. I don't know why I keep forgetting Pelini considering we have a poster with his name. Didn't he get fired for other things, tho? I honestly can't remember. I remember he was a dick.

I think it was a combination of his on field meltdowns and 9 wins a year not being good enough for Nebraska. I am pretty sure he won 9 or more games every year he was there though.

If Frost can't get them winning, they need to shut down the program. He's their only hope to ever return to at least adequate level.

Ya but the thing is that Pelini had them winning 9 games every year and that wasn't that long ago. That's more than adequate. They haven't been truly bad for that long.

If you want Urban you’re either A) Hoping he doesn’t do anything scummy here like at previous stops or B) willing to ignore him do scummy shit because for wins.

or C) make yourself look like a idiot by attempting to justify the scummy shit he does. You don’t have 47 arrests including a murderer at your program because the media is being mean to you. The media has been making excuses for Urban ever since he got to Florida.

While all of what you said about the days he was at UF are probably true I don't recall that much about arrests and whatnot while at tosu other than the Zack Smith shit and even then the police investigated him multiple times and said they found nothing to prosecute. So I think at this point what Meyer brings is the know how to get shit done and probably not any more scummy behavior then you're going to find at every other major cfb program in the country. I can still see why people wouldn't want him as the symbol of the fb program but I mean things aren't exactly working out so well with the other options the university has been pursuing in recent years. It might be 20 years before another coach with that kind of proven track record is out there to be had.

Never ceases to amaze me how fans are so confident about what's going on in the mind of a person they've never met.  For some reason, this particular poster has incredible insight as to where Urban Meyer would/wouldn't be willing to live, in exchange for tens of millions of dollars and an opportunity to do the thing he loves doing, is clearly one of the best ever at doing, at a school with blue blood status and everything he needs to win more rings.

For the record, I have to side with the Surly contingent who believe that UT should never hire Urban Meyer.  Ever.

He can make tens of millions of dollars coaching anywhere he wants to. Nothing I wrote requires having incredible insight into anyone's mind either. Its a simple matter of comparing Norman, Oklahoma and the surrounding areas to most any other place a guy worth millions and his wife might want to spend 7-10 years of their lives in. So for the record, fuck off with your pompous bullshit.

how would you react if this happens

Two things wrong with this scenario:

    1. Jerry will never fire Garrett.

    2. I can't see Meyer wanting to live anywhere near Norman most of the year. He can have pretty much any job he wants if he waits for it. I don't believe the OU job would be that high up on his list of possible coaching gigs.

This guy is a fraud. Plain and simple.

Not sure if he's actually a fraud or needed another 2 years at Houston followed by 2-3 years at a P5 school before he was ready for a big time program job. Herman didn't really work his way up and begin to understand what his weaknesses are. He just assumed like everyone else that he was ready to roll into any major job and start rolling off 10 win seasons like it was nothing. He is still under the impression that he is a top 5 coach in cfb despite nothing to actually prove that he is.

It’s just a uniform that both dehumanizes and homogenizes the troops.

I agree its mainly about appearances and nothing more. They are meant to appear menacing and not someone you'd want to mess with. Obviously you'd think the armor could protect them a little better than it does in the shows/movies but maybe the Empire just doesn't care much about the lives of its foot soldiers(which it most likely doesn't).

Anything tied to a religion that has covered up priests diddling little boys for decades has no claim of moral superiority.

ND isn't better morally regardless of its religious affiliation. Holtz and others were no paragons of virute nor is their school admin. They're just pious assholes who pretend they have moral high ground due to being a private catholic university and have some degree of academic standards.
