  1. I'm going to be in Lakeway, TX early next month and will have 4-5 days of golf. Don't need super high end, but well maintained, interesting courses...preferably with elevation changes, trees, etc... No problem traveling 45 mins or so radius. Thanks for any help.

  2. Really don't hate Mizzou, but they do have some negative qualities:

    1. Poor attendance. Their football fans are fickle, their basketball fans are worse. For being the only D1-A school in a state with 6+ million, MU's attendance is dreadful.

    2. secsecsec

    3. Uncomfortable percentage of hillbillies. Ernest T Bass kept Mayberry interesting. Two of him would be annoying, but three or more and you have a problem. Missouri has the entire Bass clan and then some.

The few sad faced Mizzou fans that wander around KC during the Big 12 basketball tourney always makes me grin.

My understanding was that he wanted the ISU wrestling job when it was open (he might have been an assistant at the time) and they didn't even give him a look.  I've also heard something about him being denied the budget to buy athletic tape or something like that.

He (justifiably) felt like he wasn't getting his due from his alma mater, and Iowa swooped in and offered him the job on the spot.

He was an asst. to Harold Nichols who won national titles in '65, '69, '70, '72, '73, & '77 to go along with seven Big 8 titles. Kind of hard to ask Nick to step down so Dan could take over.

If you believe any coach stays at Iowa State over tOSU, you’re a fucking moron.

I don't think I'm a moron as that would put my IQ level somewhere between 0 - 25, but I know what I was told and I know who told me. You can believe it or not.

You're either full of shit, or you believe some bullshit that was fed to you. From a good friend who has coached with Campbell and who is connected to Ohio State, he wasn't offered the Ohio State job, and he didn't turn it down. They went with Day from the very beginning.

Well I know who told me what happened , so yeah, I absolutely believe it. BTW: I never said Campbell was offered the job. I said he was contacted and he told them he wasn't interested.

Ohio State should have hired Campbell, but I also thought that Fickell was a better option than Day

Ohio State did contact Campbell and he told them he wasn't interested.

  7. My older sister had ZERO interest in any sport before she moved to Omaha many, many years ago. She didn't know the difference between a football and a softball but she became "Lil Ms. Husker" within a couple of years of the move. An exchange I had were her when the Nubs were still in the Big 12 went like this:

LMH: "You guys should come over for a football game when ISU is playing Nebraska"

Me: "Hmmm, well I'll tell you what. We'll come over if you guys agree to come over when Nebraska plays in Hilton."

LMH: "Uhhh, we don't watch Nebraska basketball"

    ME: "Yeah, why's that?"

    LMH: "Well, they never win"

In short, LMH was a fan of winning which caused this exchange 3-4 years ago:

LMH: "We aren't getting season tickets anymore"

    Me: "What? Why?"

LMH: "Oh, everything at Nebraska now is about the money. Donations...ticket prices...on and on"

Me: "Yeah, that losing sucks doesn't it?"

  8. I can't believe you fart knockers never mentioned what is arguably ISU's greatest achievement: the invention of the first digital computer. The Atanasoff - Berry Computer was completed at (then) Iowa State College in 1942.

Random aside: Several years ago I was walking out of Jack Trice and thought, "WTF? Is that Nick Nolte?" Visited with him for a few minutes and he said he comes back to Ames every now and then and that his Dad was a three year letterman for the Clones. Side note, his hair was combed and he was wearing an ISU sweatshirt....no Aloha shirt.
