If your not a historical top 25 football program you have to bring other qualities to the table.

SEC top 25ers- Texas, Oklahoma, aggy, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee

Outside the top 25- Mizzou, Ole Miss, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vandy, Mississippi St

Mizzou/Vandy bring academics/markets which are needed.  Without them, Texas, aggy, Florida, and UGA their shot at getting UNC would be slim to none. Getting UNC, Duke, UVA, Kansas would help the SEC’s academic (and basketball) outlook greatly.

    Kentucky basketball

South Carolina and Ole Miss are flagships of their states

    Mississippi State brings…

Cut MSU and replace with Kansas, NCSU, or WVU and the SEC would be better off.

So much dumbass in this post the SEC is not trading MSU for Kansas, WVU or NCSTATE.  It won't happen.  Do you really think WVU is better academically than any of the aforementioned universities?  If so, the bless your heart.

Driving this, no, but anyone who thinks they don’t matter is a dumbass.  The reason Stanford, UNC, UVA, Duke are considered some of the top candidates for joining of the super conferences is in part due to their academics.  Obviously good football and large fan base is #1/2 but academics still rates in the top 5.

And you’re completely ignoring the lack of athletic success and hyper focusing on a single word.  MSU sucks and has no place in the new world order.  They got lucky, if the SEC/B1G decide to reform into a new league there is no way MSU would ever make the cut.

    No, I'm right.

I do not agree with how others are covering it. Arkansas wasn't a big deal. Period the end. Outside of the magical 60s. We're making something up that wasn't there. Dogpile all you want.

The winning percentages don't tell the whole story. They feasted on the weak opponents in the SWC, but lost to just about anyone they faced with elite talent. They rarely won the conference. They had the huge blowout of an outstanding OU team in the '78 Orange Bowl when Holtz suspended several of his best players right before the game. Outside of that they simply weren't that impressive. They lost their 2 Cotton Bowl appearances under Hatfield. They got blown out by OU in the '87 Orange Bowl (admittedly, a juggernaut of a team). Holtz was fired because he could never win the conference.

They ran a conservative never pass triple option offense under both Holtz and Hatfield that helped make them a solid opponent, but they were never anything special. They were the plucky undersized try hards who recruited undervalued players out of Texas to bolster the best players they automatically grabbed out of their backyard each year. The biggest compliment I can give them is that they won without cheating in an era in the SWC plus the two schools in Oklahoma when everyone in the region outside of them, Texas, Baylor, and Rice were cheating out of their gourd (and TCU once Wacker got there).

Look, it's obvious people want to mythologize this stuff, so go right ahead. As I said before, the best that can be said about the so called Arkansas rivalry from the Texas side is that we were less indifferent about the Razorbacks than the Bears, Mustangs, Cougars, Owls, Horned Frogs, Red Raiders, and Aggies (until Sherrill/Slocum). So if that makes for a rich and storied rivalry, you got me.

You have lost the argument, you best sue for peace.

They fit, but they bring no value.  They suck academically, and athletically (their 1st national title in any sport was baseball a year back).  The state of Mississippi in P5 college football ranks only above Nebraska, West Virginia, and Kansas in population and they split that in half with Ole Miss.  They bring no media markets worth a damn and are fully surrounded by better SEC schools on every side. They share colors with aggy and a team nickname with UGA and have basically nothing unique or noteworthy that casual fans would care about or miss. No one outside of their shitty state and alumni would give a shit if they were kicked out. They are pretty much the definition of a school that would never get invited to a super league, they just got lucky they were in the club before it became exclusive.

If you think academics drives this, then I'll have what you are drinking.  The SEC will never kick them out.

  5. I'm amused about all the talk of the B1G controlling the biggest TV Markets.  I would point out the SEC already has Texas and with one more addition would most defintely have Florida (if they don't already).  They would have 2 of the 3 biggest states and they care a lot more about college football than the largest state, California.

There's only 2 teams in the entire SEC that don't belong at the big boy table in football: Mississippi State and Vanderbilt

That's a really strong conference. And MSU is at least competitive and packs their stadium.

    B1G definitely needs some purging:

    - Indiana and Purdue with small fanbases in the same state as Notre Dame

    - Illinois and Northwestern with small fanbases in the same state.

Rutgers and Maryland are borderline but do bring recruiting territory, new geography to play games and some potential.

Not to mention many of the B1G programs that carry their own weight aren't a real threat to beat tOSU and other national powers. USC definitely is much needed in the B1G. They need to add Oregon and ND.

B1G needs to purge anywhere from 2 to 4 teams and remain selective with any additions.

You are wrong about Mississippi State, they belong in the SEC.

There is a relaxed German restaurant @ Fort Greene neighborhood, Fulton Street in Brooklyn. They have real German pretzels, the schnitzel is great and German bier flows like water from the taps including my two favorites Radeberger Pilsner and Kostritzer Schwarzbier!

One important detail:  The name of the restaurant is Black Forest.

This was my combo plate from Oklahoma Joe’s, widely considered one of the best BBQ joints in KC.

The brisket was so tough, they cut it on a deli slicer set at 1. It be tasted like it had been parboiled before going on the smoker. The sausage was horrific and wasn’t even Hillshire Farms quality. Not shown is the potato salad that was diced potatoes swimming in mayonnaise soup.

This was a definite step up from Arthur Bryant’s. I gave up on KC BBQ after those two.

Try LC's on Blue Parkway just east of Country Club Plaza but be prepared for long lines.  It is the best in KC.

Any suggestions on the best soft pretzel in NYC? We’ll be there for my wife’s birthday and that’s all she wants. I’ve heard Heidelberg (UES) was one of the best but it’s been a while. By pretzel I mean authentic German style, not a buttery POS like Auntie Anne’s.

Give Akers a tad bit of credit.

His teams were hard nosed and they played defense lights out.  He recruited very well.  two cotton bowls wins away from two national titles.  Won about 75% of his games.

I’d stick with Keen’s. The pipes that are stored up front to show the people that have been there through the years (Einstein, MacArthur, Ruth amongst loads of others) through the years creates a unique ambiance to experience, enjoy!

Will agree with this. It's my favorite nyc steak house. I've eaten there so many times I've lost count but if you've never been it's quite the quintessential NYC old school steak house.

Love Keens, always dine there when in the city.  Another one that is pretty damn good is the Old Homestead @ 52 9th Avenue.  Definitely old school and located in the Meatpacking District.
