The only way I see this team being good is if struggling against rice is due to not revealing the playbook and feigning weakness to throw off Bama but... I sadly don't think the real story is that deep. At all.
Would be cool to be proved wrong, tho.

lulz at everyone who drank the kool aid. what a fucking joke.
Ha, anyone offering kool aid this offseason was more of a clown than usual. Unfortunately the best chance for this team to contend at a high level offensively is now in Atlanta, GA

Couldn't happen to a nicer dude. I wish no team would pay him to coach anything ever again, but I know someone will.

No one expects Casey to start at least the beginning of next season? Bama game #2? Would love him back for one more season.
Ewers is supremely talented but he hasn't played football in two years, 18 years old going on 19, and is brand new to the system. Usually the young QBs that have success are the redshirt guys or older that have already been in the same program for at least a year. Ohio St, oklahoma, and Bama QBs all turned 20 recently.
Think there will be some serious meltdowns if Ewers has to start day 1.
Save Ewers for OU and do what they did to us: Throw in a QB nobody has had a chance to scheme for or any college film on at halftime if things are going bad.

I have an idea that will probably get me negged to deth. Just remember I'm high and joking but what if:
Mack Brown Head Coach
Sark / Tom Herman OC
Charlie Strong DC
Get some more Australian kickers
-
Get in a time machine, go back and don't fire Mack Brown so quickly, and if you do still have to fire him then don't fire Charlie Strong or Tom Herman. And if you do have to fire them then don't fire Steve. And if you do have to fire him then don't fire <next coach that will hype us up only to let us fall on our face again>
There's nothing to do but sit around expecting this shit to continue until this fan base, donors etc realize that pulling the plug and starting fresh every few years sets Texas back a little further every time. It scares quality players off and nobody that's worth a shit wants to coach here either. We've been rebuilding how long? Let a coach stick around for 5 years, no matter who they are, and see what long term gains can be made. It's never going to get fixed in less than 3 years unless you actually land Saban, Urban etc. And even then I don't think it'd just magically work & probably would come with toxic baggage of some sort.
Accept that it's no longer an issue of a quick fix leading to getting back to being great. It's now a matter of fighting tooth and nail to getting back to having a chance of being great again one day - and in turn proving to the entire country that it's a stable team capable of making steady gains where good recruits and coaches want to go contribute to the turn around.
As it sits, man, I feel bad for the few quality players on this team that deserve more. Completely mismanaged football program from the top down.

I haven't watched the game but
You guys think Sark ever texts Saban and asks "Wtf do I do"
And Saban is like "Have you tried buying better players"

-
and after you fire sark and cdc dont try to get a flashy coach or players just get a coach and players that are actually serious about playing. that'll do for a start anyway.
-
-
even if there's potential for better years I don't care. Fire and start over, again, before we try 3 years of this.

this mfer needs to get in the transfer portal

They probably feel pretty fucking good about their chances.
Maybe, but if there's not at least a few MFers out there hitting with a chip on their shoulder after that... then we know there's literally no saving most of this roster.

Imagine being the Kansas coaches listening to that soundclip of Bo and realizing they're going to have to face a Texas team that spent a whole week getting grilled for their lack of passion.
-
I say start Rojo

I honestly though, wish this team would just let loose. Season's fucked, try some weird stuff. Wildcat with Rojo and whichever Robinson is healthy enough to go.. Stop throwing qbs with either broken hands or inability to play behind a crap oline in there. Design something weird and just go for broke if for nothing else to not be whatever they've tried to be all year that hasn't worked.
I'm aware that it'd probably just backfire more, but I don't want to see them just play another game as the last 3. The only thing left is to try and claw away at finding an identity other than cant do shit in the 2nd half.

This roster is a collection of terrible linemen, average QBs, athletes like Overshown who aren’t good football players, entitled upperclassmen, and Bijan/Worthy. They are the only two players getting time that I care to see next year. This is the most devoid of talent roster since SWC Mackovic days. It absolutely, unequivocally is the roster. It is so obvious, and I cannot for the life of me understand how it’s not obvious to everyone on this board.
I pretty much knew there was a problem with the talent when I watched kansas nearly rally against the Horns @ DKR in 2019, the last game I attended in person. That period felt like a turning point from being a team with some potential to suddenly the next players up ( especially in places like the secondary ) were such a massive falloff in skill that it was just shocking tbh.
Herman dropped the ball with recruiting plain and simple.

The players were shit to begin with.
Yep. This whole team's problems were masked for at least a couple of years by heroics that we continually asked Sam Ehlinger to pull out of nowhere all while most of the fanbase crapped all over him for finally falling short when he didn't have enough magic to make up for the lack of talent surrounding him.
I knew it was going to be ugly after he left, just didn't think it'd be this ugly.

If I were him I would transfer to OU. That way he is guaranteed to play this UT defense no matter what conference we are in and he can rack up 500 yards in one game guaranteeing him the Heisman.
And I'd be happy for him at this point. This program needs to be burned down in the most decisive of ways, until there's no more vince young sized hype that haunts them. Texas does not need anymore well known or highly touted recruits. They need a bunch of unknown 4 stars that play from what our appropriate mentality should be now: Underdogs that are hungry to fight their way back to the top.
-
Can I just say fuck iowa state and every other cheesedick insecure fanbase that feels compelled to spit on the Longhorns as we walk out the door.
Have your fun chanting "Fuck the longhorns" and stuff like that. Really shows how small they are.
There'll be a time again when Texas has its shit together and dominates them for the better part of decades, but I guess they can look back on this and cling to "that period of time they got to win a few games"

I feel bad for the players out there that deserve to be on better teams. Let them move on.

Yeah... so much for Archie.
IMO the worst thing that could happen is to bring the added media attention and unneeded pressure of the Manning name to this disaster.
