I don't think you watched King vs Kent State. He was awful. Left the pocket too early, made terrible decisions, and has a very erratic arm.

King is definitely a better athlete than Calzada but he hasn't shown anything at this level that proves he can be a capable QB.

It's funny you bring up Card. King actually reminds me of Card. An athlete that should be at WR.

I saw the game.  Two of the interceptions were tipped -- one straight up into the air.

4 1/2 quarters isn't really enough game tape to render a decision on the guy, but coming out of camp he was ahead of Calzada by all accounts.  He also appears to still hold the season record for passing yards in a game -- which would have been set in his first game against Kent State.

    Calzada isn't good.

Yes, the guy that threw 3 interceptions against Kent State "was the guy."

Calzada probably has the better arm talent if we're being honest.

Meaning what?  'Arm talent' hasn't exactly elevated Card to the next level...

aggy is 2 plays away against Colorado and Alabama from being 5-5 in year four of Jimbo.

Our suckage has made some people lose their minds.

This team is nowhere close to making the playoffs especially when you see what they’re losing after this season.

They may also have been 1 QB away from being undefeated.  Calzada is not serviceable as an every-day SEC QB.  Haynes King was the guy.

If your defense allows KU's quarterback to run around for 5 seconds every play until someone comes free then you are gonna lose.

That 'someone' was a zero-star, walk-on LB who has played exactly *zero* offensive snaps at his new position (FB) until last night.  Ran a drag across the goal line and snagged a pass that was thrown completely behind him.

So when the argument is made about our talent pool not being as-good-as-the-ratings-said-back-in-2019, it just rings a bit hollow.  We got beat by a zero-star walk-on LB catching a pass from a 3 star QB filling in as the emergency QB -- and who incidentally was ranked 47 spots behind... Hudson Card.

The players have given up.  Time for a complete tear-down and rebuild.

I know this is a popular narrative amongst those who want to paint with broad strokes, but Alabama has one 5* o-lineman on their 2 deep.

Pos Player 1 Recruit Rate Player 2 Recruit Rate
    OFFENSE
WR-X Metchie III, John JR 4 Hall, Agiye FR 4
    WR-Z Williams, Jameson JR/TR 4 Holden, Traeshon SO 4
WR-H Bolden, Slade RS JR 3 Earle, JoJo FR 4
LT Neal, Evan JR 5 Kight, Amari RS SO 4
LG Cohen, Javion SO 4 Brown, Tommy RS JR 4
OC Dalcourt, Darrian JR 4 Owens, Chris RS SR 4
RG Ekiyor Jr., Emil RS JR 4 Roberts, Jaeden FR 4
RT Owens, Chris RS SR 4 Randolph, Kendall RS SR 4
TE Latu, Cameron RS JR 4 Tennison, Major RS SR 4
QB Young, Bryce SO 5 Tyson, Paul RS SO 4
RB Robinson Jr., Brian RS SR 4 Williams, Roydell SO 4

    ^^^^THIS

And the tired narrative of "well we had a good class, but where are they now?"  What team has an intact recruiting class from 3 years ago on the 2-deep?

Missing on evaluations, failure to develop, medical retirements happen at EVERY.DAMN.PROGRAM.  This is not something unique to Texas.  The issue here is the neverending focus on the skill positions in an era where the offense and defense are built from the inside-out.  Alabama has very mediocre skill position players this season, but continues to perform at a high level because of their line experience.  Notice they have exactly ONE sophomore (and no FR) on their starting OL.

It's understandable that being "O-line U" isn't as glamourous as "DB U" or "QB U," but having a 5* RB means nothing if they can't get out of the backfield.  SEC teams have figured out how to recruit and develop the lineman.  Texas has not.

Someone explain Bama at #2 to me.  1-1 against ranked teams.  Loss to aggy.  Close escapes against shitty Florida and LSU.  Best win against Ole Miss.  2nd best win against...Miami?  Miss St?

Was that a rhetorical question?  The SEC has the top undefeated, 1-loss, 2-loss, and 3-loss teams in the CFP rankings...

    1. Georgia (9-0)
    2. Alabama (8-1)
    11. Texas A&M (7-2)
    17. Auburn (6-3)

Same. I’ll say this, at least aggy is willing to spend reckless money on a proven coach and players. Yes the contract is dumb, no I don’t think it should have been spent on Jimbo out of all the coaches who won a championship but here they are and here we are.

The only 'reckless money' spent on the HC position has been right here.  Over $70mil in salaries and buyouts for Strong/Herman/Sark in the last 7 years.  That's way more than Jimbo's contract.
