Was just listening to "Full Ride" and the speculation was there could be some pretty significant transfers out of the program at season's end as Sark tries to mold the roster the way he likes it.  But careful how you play it.  Chip Kelly did that, and for a couple of years we couldn't even field a full compliment of scholarship players because he didn't want to just fill schollie slots with and old Joe.  And it showed on the field.  Have to play it smart.  Which we didn't.

I mean we have the transfer portal being a big thing now, so i think we’d be OK

  2. i am guessing timing for setting the QB will be similar to whatever it was at bama last year. when did saban/sark decide on the QB starter last year (how many weeks before opening game)?

So many questions about this Perryman Group study.  Here's two:

First, I'm skeptical of how accurate the underlying research and data are given that the work started sometime within the past week.  In other words, we have to assume that this firm only started this "analysis" after news broke about Texas and Oklahoma leaving the SEC.  There's no reason it would've started earlier.  And, this isn't like preparing a family budget after one spouse loses a job.  This involves much more complicated analysis covering several economic markets.  Even with pulling all-nighters (doubtful), the speed at which this report was produced is one of many red flags.

Second, who requested and/or funded this report?  After a quick glance, there's no mention.  I guess it's possible this firm prepared the work on its own with no funding as a favor to an alma mater.  But I doubt they decided to do this just for shits and giggles or because their work is slow.  But omitting this information indicates they know it would reveal the bias driving the report.

my reaction is - well yeah those communities might suffer - but what about the other side of the coin? the economic activity lost from the UT and aggy is coming back (and UT vs all those other SEC schools which will now be visiting austin) may very well be a net benefit to the state economy. shit, people are going to tune into texas tamu on thanksgiving/watch it in bars if not thanksgiving all over the state. wouldn't that be in a balanced report?

Because it's behind the paywall, who is the hack?

If it is who I think it is, it's the same guy/firm cities like to use to frame their arguments to spend money on useless things. Always something along the lines if you don't do this special tax zone or project, the city will lose is their MO.

Ray Perryman is an economist in Waco. Find more details of his athletics conference analysis at www.perrymangroup.com. He wrote this column for The Dallas Morning News.

Maybe delete your cookies and you can read the article. No paywall showing for me

edit: he has his analysis posted on his website below which looks freely accessible

  6. My brother is a UW alum and he has given me a ton of shit when sark was brought onboard.
since sark has started putting together his staff he’s shut up. This news broke last ugly for him and I woke up to a few e-mail sized texts with an unmistakable aggy flavor.
Coach K seems like he’s kinda a big deal.
I just had an evil laugh reading this. Feels good to finally flex the program's muscles for what seems like a decade. Closest to this was when we hired herm when he was the hottest commodity but this feels like ALL the pieces are coming together
