Also worth noting that Terry's "brother" has no legacy to speak of. Vance and Mickey Joseph are his cousins

I think the 12 team format is going to make this pretty chalky in most cases. The Big 12 and ACC can potentially make things interesting, but with more chaos in those conferences, the higher likelihood it is that another preseason favorite from the SEC or B1G gets in and the other conferences get just 1 or maybe 2 teams in.
ACC- This league is wide open. Clemson, FSU (even with the loss to GT), Miami, NC State, Va Tech, and even SMU have a realistic shot at going 10-2 which would put them in the conversation. Miami is the most talented so I'll take them as the champ even though Cristobal is an idiot. I just don't have a ton of confidence in anyone else. Champ: Miami
Big 12- I view the Big 12 as less wide open than the ACC but the middle can jump up and spoil things for the rest of the league. I expect that the champion has 2 or maybe even 3 losses which will most likely relegate it to a one bid league. I'm not buying all of the hype on K-State and Avery Johnson. They will be a top 3 team in the league but Utah if healthy is a safe bet to at least make the championship game and from there its probably a little better than a coin flip that they win it if they are there. Oklahoma State would be my second pick here. Champ: UtahB1G- Outside of the top 4 teams, this league is mediocre. Outside of the Top 6, this league downright sucks. I don't see Ohio St, Oregon, or Penn State losing more than 2 games and Michigan's schedule is so weak that 9-3 is the floor there too. Ohio State has the most tough games out of the top 3 but they are the most talented roster. Conversely Penn St probably has the least talented roster but the easiest schedule. I have an Ohio St vs Penn St rematch in the championship and Ohio St winning it. Champ: Ohio St
SEC- I think Georgia and Texas are near locks to at least make the playoff. They are the most talented teams and have the most depth. Alabama is still a very talented team and Deboer can coach so I'm not writing them off as a 9-3 team. It'd be very underwhelming for Ole Miss to go anything less than 10-2. I'm not buying Tennessee. Nico may be awesome and Pearce is a great pass rusher but there is a legitimate talent gap between the rest of that roster and the top of the SEC. They are kind of like Ole Miss without the infusion of transfer portal talent. LSU will be a fun team to watch but I think USC, Ole Miss, A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma will yield 3 losses. A&M has a super weak schedule when comparing to other teams but their thin depth and injury risk does not align very well with where most of their important games land on the schedule. They are lucky Notre Dame lost its LT but a healthy Riley Leonard is going to suck for them to deal with, they get Florida early before that brutal schedule kicks in, they get Arkansas early enough where the team is still fighting for Pittman's job, Missouri before they have to dig too deep into their depth, then LSU, Auburn, and Texas all in the back half. I'll take Texas as the champ because I'm a homer but I'll bet that Texas and UGA split the game in Oct and the SEC championship. Champ: Texas
Indy- I think Notre Dame is going to get in because I think they have a 10-2 floor and chaos in the ACC and Big 12 make it so there is not obvious replacements for them.
G5- Liberty is a popular pick because of the schedule quality but I'm not going to take them. I thought it would be Boise but the top of the MWC could be scrappy and complicate things for them. Probably a crapshoot but I'll put Miami (OH) in there to mix it up.
PLAYOFF TEAMS (no order)
1. Miami
2. Utah
3. Ohio St
4. Texas
5. Notre Dame
6. Miami (OH)
7. Georgia
8. Ole Miss
9. Alabama
10. Oregon
11. Penn St
12. Michigan

My issue regarding the "multiple decommitments doesn't make Hampton a flake" part is that that isn't the whole picture. The guy has moved around to multiple schools, made multiple decommitments, flaked on visit plans, gotten into shit with coaches, and lied to people in the media on damned near a constant basis. Boo hoo for people in the media, I get it, but they also tend to be pretty good at spotting flakes when they see them. Roach is too unassuming and naive to see it, but all of the guys at IT and Howe see it.
I hope it all amounts to nothing with the guy and that he comes to Texas and kicks ass. Jaydon Blue had some pretty big issues and I and friends of mine that follow this stuff all wrote his chances of doing anything off. May something similar work out here. That said, if the worst thing that happens in this class is that Hampton flips to Bama, there will be a big part of the recruitnik in me that feels some level of relief.
Agree with this sentiment, hence the thoughts above it.
Yeah I get it, there are some potential red flags with him.
My general point is that despite the headache that his recruitment has been for Texas, Sark has continued to recruit the kid even after he decommitted from Texas as has Saban after a silent comittment and decommitment from Alabama. On top of that, it has become clear that both Alabama and Texas are going to land blue chip recruits at WR and have great shot at landing proven elite WR talent from the portal year in and year out, and both programs have prioritized this recruitment. I don't like being a "trust the coaches" guy but I would much rather take the risk and have him on our campus than in Tuscaloosa -

There's some pretty extinuating circumstances there dude. It's not just the flakey kid who does it multiple times. His first commitment was in like 8th grade. Then he committed to Oregon, which he decomitted form when they lost their coach AND his mom had health issues. This is some disingenous shit.
Dude committed to OSU in September of 2019. Decommits in July 2020. Commits to Oregon a YEAR later in July 2021. Decommits in December 2021 when they lose their coach.I'm not comparing Aeryn Hampton the recruit to Kelvin Banks the recruit. Just merely pointing out that today is different than 5 years ago in regard to kids making multiple decommitments.
If you want another example, Jahdae Barron. There are more. Hampton may bust and has shown some flakiness but I think that is significantly less indicative of future bust probability than it was a few years ago-

If Hampton flips, I don't anyone would really care one way of the other. The probability is high that kids with multiple decommitments never pan out in college.
Yeah man Kelvin Banks sucks

Dante Moore sucks shit through a straw. I watched him last weekend, he is truly awful.
Not disagreeing but I'd be willing to bet that there are multiple big time programs who'd happily take him still

Some potential startable transfer QBs I've come up with. Some of these are already in the portal, some might go to the draft, and some might get the NIL bag to stay put
Who am I missing?
Cam Ward
Michael Pratt
Riley Leonard
Tyler Van Dyke
Will Rogers
Aidan Chiles
Kaidon Salter
Diego Pavia
Conner Weigman
Max Johnson
Will Howard I think will have another year of eligibility left and there's a chance they want to start Avery Johnson next year.
Chandler Morris
Devin Brown/Kyle McCord one of if not both could go if they are trying to bring in a new guy
Jayden de Laura
Miller Moss/Malachi NelsonDante Moore
Brock Vandagriff/Gunner Stockton

Dabo is such a similar hire to what Fisher was that I doubt they do it again.
But that would be the most on-brand hire they could make. It would also fail hilariously.I think they ultimately go with Elko. If they feel like he can prevent a mass exodus in the portal and retain some of the pieces of the staff, that will be too good to pass up since they believe they have the talent to win big now. Long term I don't think Elko would be the solution there but he's somewhat low-risk now and I think there's some apprehension or even lack of funds after Fisher to take another big swing

For those of us who are OK with looking ahead:
BYU Game @2:30 on ABC
Is it possible that the only home game at night this season is going to be the Wyoming game? Good thing they got some mileage out of the drones and lights

Best case for Texas this bye week
- Houston beats WVU. I don't think WVU is going to finish with only one conference loss but they could feasibly beat the remaining teams on their schedule besides OU and cause a headache in the B12 championship race.
- Tennessee beats A&M because lol
- Kansas beats Ok St. Kansas remaining ranked is helpful although I don't know that our SOS really needs much help
- BYU/TCU don't know that the result matters but should be an instructive game as both teams are on our remaining schedule.
- TTU/K State is in the same boat as BYU/TCU
- Wyoming beats Air Force. Could be another sneaky ranked team that Texas has a win over.
- Miami beats UNC. I don't want any BS with the three ACC teams at the top muddying the CFP race
- Notre Dame over USC. Same as above
Decent amount of games with some intrigue for Texas

Derick Roberson- Top rated recruit in the 2014 class and contributed pretty much nothing. I think he ended up at SHSU
Erick Fowler- Always kind of a weird size/positional fit but I don’t know if he ever even played a game
Patrick Hudson- I never figured out what this guys deal was but he was the highest rated o line commit we had in the whole Strong era.
BJ Foster- played a decent amount but sucked. Coming out of HS he was a sure fire NFL guy.
Brennan Eagles- I thought this guy was going to be awesome but he never really amounted to anything
