Texas and A&M in different pods is a bad idea just because of the possibility of consecutive games if they both reach the CCG. Don't laugh. But any teams who play rivalry week should be in the same pod so they're always in the same division.

And we are much closer geographically.  I don't mind being in a different pod than ou if we can keep that game.

Well the ones proposed here don't comply with NCAA rules.  You can't have a ccg without playing a round robin.

If its a pod system, it has to be rotating pods.  You have two pods making up an 8 team division.  2 years later you pair different pods.  2 years later you pair a 3rd way.  So you get your pod every year and everyone else 2 out of 6 years even with a 7 game schedule.  With 8 or 9 you can include some every year non-pod rivalries.

The one that seems to make the most sense for competitive balance is:

East Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida

    South Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

Central LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi St., Texas A&M

    West Texas, OU, Arkansas, Missouri.

4 out of 6 years, Texas could play aggy in the 8th game.  Same for Georgia-Auburn, Alabama-LSU, Kentucky-Tennessee, Ole Miss-Vanderbilt and perhaps Arkansas-Mississippi St., OU-Florida and Missouri-South Carolina.

Yep, that makes the most geo sense but I would find a way to play aggy every year.  Also, flipping aggy with ou works just as well.

Agreed, but I'm not. Used to park next to his blinged out Escalade in the Jester garage way back when though. He was always pretty cool and would chat for a few.

I was always team Simms, unless he sucked, in which case I was team Applewhite, unless he sucked.

And everything I've heard, given the circumstances, Simms is a solid guy.  Major, not so much

Who has that happened to? This is another thing i love. People who "never go to the CR" but somehow know of some big long list of people who have been crowdsourced because they dared post a conservative opinion there.

    Sure Jan GIF

Crowdsourced?  no.  But neg bombed, definitely.  Come on now.

AUSTIN, Texas — Horns247 was able to get a glimpse of the Longhorns’ practice Tuesday afternoon for a brief media viewing window at Frank Denius Fields. Here are some key notes we gathered from the media’s open practice window.
    — For the second straight day, redshirt freshman QB Hudson Card got all of the reps with the first-team offense Tuesday afternoon, while redshirt junior Casey Thompson ran with the second-team offense.
    — Card had some decent throws in 11-on-11 against the first-team defense. His receivers lining up with him were Jordan Whittington, Joshua Moore and Xavier Worthy.
    — Card had a couple of completions in 11-on-11, including one to Moore and one to Worthy.
    — Thompson did not have as good of a showing in 11-on-11 with the twos.
    — Thompson’s receivers were Al'Vonte Woodard, Troy Omeire and Kai Money. Thompson’s only completed pass was to Money.
    — A few of the less than ideal notes on the second-string offense started with a fumble when Thompson attempted to hand off the ball to Roschon Johnson early on. Thompson also he took a sack in 11-on-11 and threw an interception that was picked off by Darion Dunn.
I caught some of the RB pass-catching drills and the only guy who I didn’t see have a drop was Bijan Robinson. Both Roschon Johnson and Keilan Robinson had a few dropped passes.
    — A bit of a random nugget, but Steve Sarkisian went out of his way to commend Jared Wiley while on kick return after he made a block that opened a hole for D’Shawn Jamison.
    — There were a handful of NFL teams in attendance. We couldn’t get a really solid count, but it looked like anywhere between 9-12 NFL execs were at Tuesday’s practice.

Ask some of the UT faculty what they think of Tech or Okie Lite. Find out for yourself. I'm sure many of them will opine that the factors that dictated conference affiliation thirty years ago are not the same as the factors today.

Yes, Vandy and UF have reputable academic standing. You seem to "somehow" forget Ol' Miss, Miss St, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas A&M, (have I made my point, or should I go on?).

The fact is, and long has been, that states in the S!E!C! footprint have long underfunded both primary education and secondary education to the people their post-secondary institutions suck. With VERY few exceptions. Exactly ONE of those Land Grant schools (UF) has any level of academic credibility.

Anyone who things Texas is switching athletic conferences to bond with academic peers peers, "bond with family," make friends, "be with our equals," to be "liked," or any other absurd reason is sadly misguided. Likewise, anyone expecting UT to not be continuously singled out for not acting more like the inbred smoothbores who comprise the S!E!C! is also sadly misguided.

We aren't Land Grant, farm school rednecks. That would be Texas A&M. We (thank God) aren't Texas A&M. Not even close.

    We're Texas.

The conference switch was purely a business decision, a cultural or academic decision.

As for the "leftover five" of the Big 12, fuck them. I understand it was easier when all they had to do was ride the economic coattails of Texas and OU, but those days are over.

ATM would instantly be the second best academic school in this conference.  And thankfully, this is an athletic decision, not an academic one.  ATM, Georgia, Florida, Vandy.

I don't think any less of Stanford because it's in the same conference as a school that has open enrollment.
