1. TW has it for $70
GG has it for $86. wtf gg?

I paid $49 for the first batch at specs last year

Man, going to cut down on those out of state margins! Is it still limited release? I never grabbed one myself but was actually impressed with the tastes I had.

2. That’s the new maroon label.
They changed the color.

Thanks for the info. Assumed it had to be something like that, just couldn’t find a thing on Google or the other outlets. Weird that it rang up cheaper than normal. It’s the reverse Heaven Hill rebranding from a couple years back if so. Lol

I didn’t see this in all the recent Jack talk, but what’s the difference between this and the maroon label? I’m lost. Also rang up at like $30-35 range I think.

4. Fuck specs and fuck total wine

I don’t think I’ve seen an update. Is the new-ish honey hole that opened up near your house still churning out the goods like they did when you discovered it, or did you buy them out of their first 3 years worth of allocations?

5. Can stores trade?   I found a little store with a WLW for over $1000.  I’ve thought about offering them a CYPB and a Weller FP in trade.  I’m guessing retailers can’t trade though.

I’d assume “everything’s negotiable” with as many of them that pull the “not for sale / my personal collection” crap.

6. Yeah I don’t care one way or the other. My guy knows my unicorns so maybe I’ll get lucky. I got enough hooch as it is. Just wonder what all these points do now.

My boss wandered into a TW today after a drop and walked up on a guy ranting about Blanton’s only being a grand reserve raffle item now. He was clearly new, so my boss was pointing out some good bottles on the shelf that are typically harder to find. Employee overheard and is like “oh we have Blood Oath in the back too.. just have to ask for it.” Get F’ed, TW. Ask for it. Guarantee you ask 9 out of 10 other associates, and they’re going to act annoyed and/or lie.

7. Said it’s all going in the case. Probably just this store. All the stagg jr went to the case at 10am and was gone by 1030 he said.  I been on that list for 2 years. Number 2 in points at “my store”. Shenanigans.

Yeah there are a lot of TW-hating, bunny apologists.. but I don’t see why since every single one of their stores is different in how they handle stuff. I’ll just continue to hope for the best in TW raffles and pound points at a local chain to get the hard stuff ever so often.

8. My specs told me they have done away with the points system today. So what was the point of getting close to 50k?

As in, company wide, or is it maybe just a franchisee decision? What are they going to do now as far as lists and such?

9. RIP my 2017 Michter’s Toasted Rye.  It was a banger and probably my favorite toasted product ever.

This is one of my favorite bottles ever and was so close to pulling the trigger so many times when it was upper-200s into low to mid-300s, and now the damn thing has been moving for north of 5. I hate it here.

10. I hope JD Bonded and Triple Mash sells well. Per an interview with their master distiller Chris Fletcher, they have some other “craft style” releases in the works. They should be rewarded for taking a chance and doing something different.

If it doesn’t sell well, Brown-Forman will take a write down, and tell JD to go back to making 80 proof Old Number 7.

I think there’s a lot at stake here. I believe Old Number 7 is something like 95% of their gross sales. The special releases, JDBP SiB, Rye SiB, and JD SiB, are all BF supporting Fletcher’s hobby.

The triple mash seems to be moving rapidly, at least from my observation in a couple of markets.

I can be as bougie as I want to pretend to be… but I’m always down for some Old Number 7 at heart lol

11. 100proof is good for this because it’s very good. Easy drinker. Delicious. henrygandorf bringing you a couple oz.

I suppose I should make my own assessment of it and just buy one, but I’m puzzled how I’m seeing stores with literal cases of this sitting for multiple days.

12. Been communicating with 291 distillery for awhile to see about my FB group doing a barrel pick, and the VP of marketing said she would send me samples of their SiB bourbon and rye to try. Wasn’t expecting 2 full bottles of each.
Yesterday was a good day.

The rye is frigging fantastic.
And these retail for $130 a bottle.

Man you’ll have to tell me specially which ones to chase, because my 291 experiences weren’t promising

13. It’s pretty good.  Not Barterhouse, but beats Copper Tongue like Dickel owes it money.  It definitely tastes like there might be significant amounts of > 14 year barrels in the blend.  Not as dry as the Rhetorics, tho.

Buddy called me yesterday asking if he should buy this or an EC18. I told him I had no knowledge other than the damn Muckity Muck was in the glass case at every store in town, so it couldn’t be that good. Maybe have him bad advice lol

14. Smells almost exactly like a Werther’s original. Huge caramel profile, with some spice on the back end from the Rye content. It’s tasty, but not terribly complex. It’s probably $40-$50 bourbon that’s being sold for more because they have a sexy bottle.

Speaking of caramel, Pinhook’s Bourbon Heist High Proof Bourbon (pink bottle - NOT the Bohemian though) is screaming with caramel. I was already somewhat of a fan of Pinhook’s MGP stuff, but their C&K products seem to be promising for as young as they are.

15. Well, I didn't pull the trigger, so sounds like I made the right call. On my trip home found an EC Toasted Barrel, a Larceny BP, a Peerless double oak and a Knob Hill store pick, all for MSRP or close to it. I think I came out ok.

Subtle troll job on the duplicates. I like it.

17. Was at my local shop and they had Kentucky Owl behind the counter, limit 1. It was $110.00. I love bourbon, but not enough to pay that much for one bottle. I know that's blasphemy to many here, but I'm not a Surly 1%er and couldn't bring myself to do it.

It’ll probably be there the next time you’re in… and the next. Those things sit in stores longer than beer cardboard cutouts.

18. Would y’all believe me if I told you I’ve drink much more vodka than bourbon this month?

Give me a Tito’s and Topo Chico over Jack and Coke every day of the week. My committee discontinued Gentleman Jack in the tent.
All will return to normal after rodeo. At least Tito’s is made with corn.

March has been the month of tequila for me, partly due to vacations. Some has been straight, while most had been ranch waters or margs. Key differences:
+No hangover
+Fewer calories
+Pairs well with Tajin
-Doesn’t taste as good as bourbon
-More after hours pee trips

19. I like Still Austin Cask Strength, but probably not good enough for a Friday/Saturday night drinker. At least in my opinion.
Thursday/Sunday are my try something new or try something cheap nights. I haven’t been impressed in a long while.
OF 100 SiB is a banger and priced well. And of course pretty difficult to find

During the great early-Covid Specs sell-off of 2020, I landed some outstanding restaurant pics of that OF. Would very much like to land some more of those.

20. None of those are wheated bourbons, tho.  I routinely end up drinking TX at events where it somehow always gets placed as the only bourbon and I’m not saying I’ll pick it over 1910 or Blanton’s, but it’s not a crime against humanity.

What’s funny is the TX whiskey was merely meant to serve as the placeholder until their TX Bourbon was ready, which was delayed a bit, and didn’t turn out to be anything special. They definitely got the gimmick going for then with the TX branding and the cowboy boot leather corks. A little ginger ale in it will sure keep the non-whiskey fan guests happy with a cream soda flavor.

21. A friend gave me a bottle of the Rio Brazos Texas Bourbon.    Tasted like a shitty scotch.   Tried it neat, on the rocks and mixed with Diet Coke.   May be the worst tasting booze I have ever had.   And I've tried sloe gin.

Sometimes a sale is all about enough keywords.. too brazos.. Texas.. Bourbon.. that’s the trifecta!

22. what are we talking about bottle wise to get to that amount?  i am just curious, sorry to bother.

As in you want valuations of your own stock to use as trade fodder?

23. My last allocated pickup if the year was a THH so I had to crack it and take a flex shot with the unopened ones I have.  I like it a ton, but it’s starting to feel like a let down on most of these bottles relative to the secondary value.  I’ve had some very good MGP lately in the $100-$200 range that is probably as good.  The NFC foil cap is kinda cool, tho.

Only thing left to do is tackle that wheater shelf!

24. Should I ask my guy at specs for a single barrel weller or another full proof?

I’m a vote for full proof. Outside of the annual release lines, that’s about the best thing they’ve got going for my money.
