So ogre had to call LaTech to find out in advance that he wasn't going to have A/C so he would know to bring fans.

Does ogre call the prior week's opponent for all of his this-week opponents to determine if his defensive unit is going to need fans to alleviate a 13 players cramping when his offense doesn't cramp at all?

That is just another example of the classlessness at UT.  It goes along with your linemen holding on just about every play.  Is "Cosmi" Italian for  the command form of "hold it"?

Why would it need to be an oversight?  I have no problem with a lack of AC in visitors locker rooms. I expect our guys have played in a few such stadiums too, and I doubt this the first time your team has.   Not really that big a deal.  If they’re ok to play in 100 degrees why wouldn’t they also be ok to sit in it for 15 minutes?   The AC in my house was out for a week recently while I waited on a new coil. The house was still cooler than outside.  It wasn’t comfortable but it wasn’t unsafe.  And how does AC in a locker room prevent cramps anyway? And why would it only affect the defense  It doesn’t?  That s just your fat slob of coach’s justification.

This has to be one of the most absurd answers I have seen on this board since all of the ridiculous claims about UT stomping a mud hole in LSU...How'd that work out?  LOL>

I came away from this game respecting LSU. I understand the trash talk and all the shit before the game. It was a huge game for the landscape of college football. Sometimes you talk shit to an opponent you respect so you can get yourself a little more motivated. Put it out there so that way you have to do it or else you’ll be s laughing stock. I get it. Win out and make this loss look decent. You guys have a really good team

Your team is legit.  Despite winning, part of me thinks UT is better.  Crazy.

3rd and 17 with a chance to win the game he called man straight across with a blitz coming from 8 yards deep. He was really bad in several spots tonight.

If LSU's defense is any good ( a real question in my mind ), you guys have a fine offense.  I think it can keep pace with the Sooners.  I wish your team success and health going forward.  Come see us in BR next year.  Burrow will be gone...

  5. To my UT colleagues,

What a great game.  UT nearly wins despite committing offensive holding on pretty much every pass play.  I said I would be back.  Who is ready for a nice steaming slice of humble pie.

BTW, I think Ehlinger is a very good QB and the UT offense, when it is allowed to hold with impunity is top flight.

The good news is that you'll get another chance next year.  In BR.  We are looking forward to it.

Lastly, you can keep your metrosexual HC.  Hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa....

No, the alternative was to say 10+.

And GTech's win was not the only > double digits win, but it was the largest margin. And it was because they were still using a lot of Rugby rules, including the one where the team that gets scored on has to kick off.

It's okay to say stupid shit, but defending it isn't.

Thanks, Tex.  Good to know you are always in my corner...lol.

LSU has a ton of talent. Their defense is for real. The Texas OL showed up bigly against LaTech, but we'll start to find out now if it was them or the opponent.

The Texas defense is no place to learn the spread. I know the Tigers fans are giddy over seeing a pass thrown and more than 2 receivers on the field at once. Here in the Big 12, we call that "Saturday". It literally happens to us every week. Every team, for the last 10 years, plays at least some type of that game in the Big 12. We've built a defense to stop literally nothing but that. The best spread offenses, collectively, live in the Big 12.

A previous post said we wouldn't pressure Burrow without well timed and well disguised blitzes. You just described Orlando's standard defense. Like, every play. We're one DL and an assortment of guys ranging from fast and strong to faster and stronger. A strength of the spread offense is counting the defenders and attacking where they lack numbers. The Texas defense doesn't stand still to be counted. It's just impossible to tell who's covering or who's rushing until the ball is snapped. "Getting the ball out quickly" is all fine and good, but if you miscounted, then we'll see if Joe Burrow is faster than Joe Ossai.

I'm not gutsy enough to predict an easy Texas win. The Tigers are a for-real opponent, and winning will be earned.

I do not think it will be easy either way, my somewhat sarcastic posts to the contrary.  However, if LSU is dialed in as they appeared to be against GASO, I am confident that they will win.  It is a big game for both programs and coaches who are relatively new to their programs.  I am looking forward to it.  I do not see UT as a Miami in any respect.

Do you understand that what you wrote implies a triple digit victory is a possibility? I'm genuinely curious as I'm not familiar with the Louisiana education system.

Well, it could also in theory mean 4 digits, but the alternative was to say more than single digits so I went with double digit win as I assumed, perhaps in error, that because since Georgia Tech's victory over Cumberland by 222-0 many, many years ago (1916) was the only time that a triple digit victory occurred, that the likelihood of something like that happening again, even against UT, was remote and understood by all.  But thanks for pointing that out.

Fromm was thoroughly confused by the Texas defense last year in the Sugar Bowl, he had no idea where the blitzer was coming from, and after several series, he was 2nd guessing himself which lead to a lot of bad throws. Burrow will have to be consistent in his pre-snap diagnosis, I just don't see him doing it.

I do not disagree.  It JB can beat the blitz it may be church for the horns.

Does your OL have 5 NFL players, because OU did last year, and they couldn't stop our front 7 from being disruptive?

As I see it, this is not the NFL, but otherwise you make an excellent point.  Secondly, I think the ONLY way that UT gets consistent pressure on the JB is through some very well disguised and timely blitzes.  JB, from what I have seen, is very good at reading defenses, of course not so sharp as Mr. Ehlinger, but he can hold his own.  JB will have plenty of targeting options allowing him to get rid of the ball on a hot read.  It seems reasonable also that LSU receivers will find themselves behind the vaunted and extremely talented UT secondary, aka DBU.  This eventuality will have not just a sobering effect on  longhorn nation, but also really loosen the defense making it more vulnerable to LSU's non-existent run game.

On the flip side, the LSU defense seems enthusiastic this year compared to the recent past in which they often appeared disinterested and, frankly, confused.  Something tells me that Aranda has them really in a tightly cohesive resonance that one typically only sees in a physics lab at Cal tech for instance.  They seem to recognize well presnap, but of course will be facing a legendary Tom Herman offense.  That is enough to make any competent DC tremble.  I see LSU getting pressure on SE when the run game stalls.  I think that Mr. Herman will be tempted to test Stingley since he is an ignorant and impressionable freshman.  This would be a mistake, but do not take my word for it.  Watch for yourselves on Saturday.

    Prediction:

LSU wins by at least double digits.

We are experienced at disrupting timing with all those spread offenses in our league. If LSU can overcome whatever we try to disrupt that sharpness, well they will win. That would be pretty impressive given they have been running this thing for such a short period of time.

Cannot disagree, Valmy.  Prepare to be impressed.  Lol.

We must allow that UT has not seen just how f'd up the LSU offense has been for some time.  Still I would not have imagined such good play in game one WITHOUT a completely new offense.  They were all focused and sharp.  If they do that saturday it will be a long night for the longhorns....

We have a huge contingent of posters here who have zero connection to the University of Texas, except perhaps that their team may have played our team at some point in the distant past. If you want to hang out here, by all means. But if you intend to return in order to troll, you'd better do it well. Malcontented attitudes are welcome; a lack of cleverness is not.

roger that, Tree.  May I live up to the standards of Surly Horns...

Like how it took you 7 overtimes to hit 70 points against our inbred fuckwit blacksheep little brother school that boasts a .500 all time conference win percentage?

Yes.  I nearly forgot about that game and huge win for the Aggies.  Of course, thanks for reminding me.

    1.  I think our o-line will be good enough to keep your front 7 from being disruptive

    2.  I think our defense has well-above average talent compared to your offense which will struggle to score.  Probably 2 turnovers for LSU at least.

As I said we'll all see come Saturday night.

Surly is like a bar in the rough part of town. There is no patience for the things for which there is no patience. There is a great deal of expertise and insight. And piles of inside jokes. The best way to learn the difference between the insight and the jokes (and the idiocy and the filler) is to lurk. Engaging boldly before you have the lay of the land is certainly a choice, but suburban soccer dads who get cussed out and kicked in the ass while trying to explain things to bikers at the biker bar often leave without truly appreciating who was the fool. Peace, regards, see you after the game, etc.

    Thanks, Magnus.

When you find yourself screaming 'just look at what we did against Georgia Southern!' you should probably be in wait and see mode. but i get it, for years you've felt like the only thing holding you back from greatness was a modern offense. that you think in week 2 of said offense you're going to confuse a defense that defends offenses week in and week out that have forgotten more about the spread than your rhodes scholars learned this past offseason is fucking rich.

that have forgotten more about the spread than your rhodes scholars learned this past offseason is fucking rich.

OK.  I just look at the scores from last year and chuckle to myself.  We get a chance to sort it out Saturday.  Fair enough?
