Now we can debate whether Arch would have made that throw or not. I’m kidding.

That play should be motivating Quinn to no end though. At the very least he should learn to be more consistently calm in the pocket.

He should also get better at knowing which arm angle to use for his throws.

I don't think Quinn has happy feet. I see him step up in the pocket like a boss often. He ran tough. I think early in the game, UW saw something on film which resulted in all those blocked passes. And they schemed up alot of pressure, which I thought he handled well overall. Also, a month off made the passing game rusty. WR's not getting turned around. We did not look very polished.

I believe this is Quinn's team next year and I expect him to take another step with his long ball and his progressions.

Arch can wait a year. If he's the QB next year, it'll be because of injury or because we shit the bed.

  2. I did not expect us to beat UW, but the team fought and almost won and I am proud of them. They were a bad matchup with a QB who should be in the NFL (damn you COVID).

I am extremely pleased with our season. I did not expect a CFB berth. I expected 10 games. We beat Bama and all of the H8, and said fuck you to the B12 on the way out. I did not go to the Bama game, but I had a gump friend tell me he's never seen a team so cohesive on the sideline. They played for each other.

We are building something special, but its not a finished product.

We got help coming in 2024 and I trust Sark to keep roster building, and I am admittedly struggling to trust the process and play calling at times, I'm worried about him being a big game coach, aside from Bama, who he is familiar with. However, we should extend him and give him a raise, but not anything crazy a la Jimbo. I'm willing to give him time, because the past 12 years sucked. This year did not. I do expect playoffs next year.

Despite our great season, we have a lot to fix in 2024. We need to get better at generating  pressure (and we lose 2 of the nation's top DT's)  I think we need to do better in the redzone, finishing games,  and establishing or maintaining rhythm on offense. Quinn played well this season, but I expect him to take another step next year, especially with the deep ball and with progressing through his reads. I am happy with him, overall - best QB since Colt.

Also, we would get discombobulated, especially late in games and we would play down still and become complacent late in games. We must do better.

Looking forward to top 5 classes, UM, the SEC, and aggy tears in 2024. And OU sucks.

Watts did well for us but I am ready to see what is next.  He has the size to potentially have a nice NFL career but I felt like more often than not he lost 50/50 balls and was just not quite good enough to make the big play.  He rarely got burnt outright but he always just seemed a step slow and was a half second away from stopping the big play that just happened.

I'm happy with Watt's tenure at Texas. He had size and played physical. We're upgrading our secondary talent, but I expect our young guys are going to take some lumps. I do expect us to generate more pressure next year, especially from the edge to protect those guys.

Catalon was a helpful barometer for when 9.95'ers were getting good information and when they were making stuff up.  The notion of Catalon as some kind of defensive savior who was injured and whose triumphant return would bolster the defense that was popular on Texas boards/websites was very much out of touch with reality.  I wish him well, but I'd be surprised if he did much at UNLV.

Eh - We took a gamble on a guy with a history of injuries. I'm not too disappointed, but I didn't have high expectations. He did contribute early in the season. We all thought he'd ball out, but that was kool aid drinking.

The one thing that truly pissed me off was when the camera panned to Ewers before we even knew we had even a slight chance to win, he was over there talking and smiling and chewing sunflower seeds. I don't know about y'all, but I would like my QB to sit there and figure out what he's doing wrong, not chillaxing and cutting it up knowing (at the time) you were going to lose. I want a QB who's pissed that he's losing a CFP game that took a lot of work from everyone on the team, only for him to sit the r and smile.

I just chalk it up to an unflappable mentality. Confidence. I think it is obvious that the dude cares and is invested in Texas FB. He let it all hang out this year, came back from injury early, etc.

  6. We couldn't generate a pass rush all night - It's a personnel issue solved by a talent infusion or scheme. I felt like I saw too much 4 man fronts, when we do not have the talent to get to the QB organically. UW was blitzing and interrupting our timing on offense. I wish we woulda seen more exotic blitzes and attempts to confuse the UW line in order to get to Penix. Pressure would solve alot of our secondary woes.

The secondary had a few breakdowns but I don’t think they played nearly as bad as most people on here think. A lot of times we were stride for stride with their receivers and even got hands on balls but unfortunately Penix I was extremely accurate and their receivers made some incredible plays. Most teams wouldn’t be able to defend what we saw tonight. I think more blame falls on the pass rush than anyone. Did we even knock Penix down? Extremely demoralizing watching Penix given all the time in the world to pick apart the secondary.

Hope Quinn can get his head on straight. Have a feeling he and Sark are going to be regretting those final 4 plays for a long time.

I agree - Our CB's were sticky - Penix was just elite. Guys did need to get their heads turned around, though. Penix was the best QB we played all year, and probably the best in the nation. The pass rush was problematic - I didn't see him stressed that often. We did better last year vs. UW in generating pressure.

As cool as Ewers often seems to be, he seems to crumble quite a bit under pressure, both from defenses and from the situation.

I mean what QB is great under extreme pressure? I think he made great decisions tonight all in all, but yes he was off a bit. However, QE did not lose us this game. I'm excited for him in 2024. I'm excited for Arch after that for sure

  9. We lost this game due to mistakes, turnovers, being behind the sticks due to penalties and UW pressure getting to QE early - discombobulating our offense. Our defense played poorly in general, but our secondary was pretty sticky, but Penix was on fire - he dropped dimes. Our defensive gameplan was off, obviously - we didn't generate much pressure on Penix.

We have alot of secondary and edge help coming next year. The future is bright.

We has a great season in 2023 and I am not disappointed. We didn't match up well vs UW yet, we almost won this game.

The OL really struggled to protect as well as we needed to run the plays we wanted to run.

I'm not sure why we didn't run more short passes to Worthy since they were playing like 7-10 yards off of him for much of the game.

We also didn't have the ball much.

    Tough game.

UW was great at generating pressure. But QE stepped up into the pocket and let it fly or ran effectively. I wish we had completed more intermediate passes. It seemed like we played into UW's gameplan - short passing game a la Bo Nix/UO, instead of playing to our strengths. If our backs woulda held onto the ball we win.

  11. QE played good enough for us to win tonight. This loss is not on him - alot of people made mistakes and he was under pressure all night, plus play calling sucked.  We had a chance to win at the end of the game.  I'm happy he's our QB. Arch is an exciting future, but this is Quinn's team right now. This was a team loss - help is coming in 2024!

  12. What game(s) do you think Kalen Deboer used for film study to attack Texas? OU?

I rewatched last year's Alamo Bowl. It is interesting how much this team changed over a single season. We tried to run Kelian and he was very ineffective. No other RB's really got going. We did a good job of making Penix uncomfortable, especially early in the game. McMillan killed us last year - It seemed like he was more involved than the stats show. They ran the ball well as well.

I hope we can get to Penix, he has quite a windup. And we gotta punch it in. Hope the coaches figured it out.

Testing the NIL waters akin to a coach letting his name slip out to restructure a better contract?  Either way, I love it...

    Unpack this please

OU wants to play 5* Jackson Arnold next year, lest he transfer. He's dual threat with a bigger arm than Gabriel. Gabriel may follow Lebby to State because he is a veer & shoot QB.

  14. Quinn is the best QB we've had since Colt and people won't stop bitching. He's only started like 15 games and bailed on his HS senior season.. He balls out and can make every throw. He's been great for us. He cares and he is the leader of this offense. I've seen alot of growth, technically and personally. I don't understand the complaining. Sure he isn't perfect but he is a huge reason we're 10-1....

    1.  Stressful, stressful game. CFB is the greatest and this is the best rivalry game in the country.
    2. Maybe next year they show a stat from 1954 or any other rando year showing how even the series is.
    3. The end reminded me of the Bama game last year. Left way too much time on the clock at the end. I was hoping we'd go for it on the 4th down as I was worried about Auburn.
    4. Oklahoma looked like the more physical team. They looked like they wanted it more. They played lights out.
    5. Bug Mountain is him.
    6. Ewers balled out despite his mistakes. I think he is a NFL QB on a CFB playoff team, but inexperienced. I wish we had him another year and he never went to OSU.... I expect us to take a step back next year due to graduation/NFL.
    7. Iffy coaching decisions but its easy to criticize in hindsight. Liked the fake punt and the aggressiveness on 4th down, Wildcat pass, etc.
    8. Feed Brooks - please.... He has been amazing.
    9. OLine missed Majors and looked confused. Maybe that was Venables I'll have to rewatch but cannot stomach it right now.
    10. OU was one of the most penalized teams prior to this game and we have been pretty clean. Generally behind the stick too often.
    11. We were almost good enough to overcome 3 turnovers. Damn...
    12. I'm proud of this team and happy with our season - One loss may get us into the CFB.... Beat the rest of the Hateful8 and the newcomers.
    13. OU will always suck, even when they win

  15. I thought Quinn balled out today. He's not perfect by any stretch and makes mistakes, some of them pretty boneheaded. He's been lucky with the INTs in many of our other games. But the dude has only played CFB for like 1.5 seasons. I'm very happy with him and this team. I hope and expect him to get better. I'm proud of Quinn and this team. You can't turn the ball over three times and  not punch it in the endzone from the one in four tries and expect to win - I don't blame Quinn - the whole team was off today. We almost did win though and I think we rematch in Arlington and get our revenge.
