In Gothenburg now, to see the daughter - the ostensible reason for our trip…and it’s already turned into a helluva deal.
Our exchange daughter and family from Oslo have come down to spend the weekend with us all. And, as we’re standing in the hotel lobby greeting them, out from the corner pops our son - he snuck over on a cheap flight from Scotland, so he’ll spend the weekend with us too. His mom definitely cried when she saw both her kiddos together. They thought enough of us and of each other to plan this surprise.
Then, daughter shares with us that she applied to a grad program in Munich in her chosen field, and was just accepted (not sure if that’s where she’ll go, but she’s got options). She’s beyond excited.
Our exchange daughter just got her first apartment with her fiancée, and is doing great in her nursing program.
We had a buncha drinks. We toasted a lot.
We’re fucking rich beyond measure. Just a great fucking night. Absolutely great.I rarely post on here, but I've really enjoyed reading about your travels. We have two girls of our own and are taking them on a trip this summer from Belgium to Lofoten (Norway) this summer. We'll even be in Gothenburg for the country's 400th anniversary. I hope we can create memories with our kids just as you are doing now. Thanks for sharing your adventures! I look forward to hearing more.

Looking for four together so I can bring my two girls to their first game. They are old enough not to be annoying to folks around us (12, 14).
Had season tix for 20 years before we gave them up, but was fortunate enough to see VY beat USC in person.
Texas-ex, Longhorn foundation... all that jazz. Can meet anytime in Austin or Dripping.
Thanks for the consideration.

I made it 2.5 years. Then 3/4 of my family got it coming back from overseas a few weeks ago. I felt like I had a mild cold for about 4 day.... pretty smug bc I thought I'd avoided the bad stuff. Then one evening the high fever hit, then it changed to chills/sweats for the next several days with no fever. I haven't felt that poorly in 30+ years. I work out - run 5 miles a day, hike 14ers in Colorado, etc. - but have been depleted of stamina. I'm trying to work out again, but it is slow going. We're in Colorado now at about 9,000' and the altitude is noticeable (and it usually doesn't even register until we get up to 12 or 13k. Ugg. This new variant is a bad mofo. And I was vaxxed and boosted. Do not want.

Anyone ever been to the French Open? Turns out we’ll be in Paris during the second week.
I was fortunate enough to go the French in 2001. My friend and I bought tickets from a guy in the station next to Roland Garros for $100 USD each - saw Agassi tank against Grosjean (?), then Capriati, and some others play. But I think the best part was roaming the grounds and seeing the players on the smaller courts up close. I played in college, but seeing these pros and how good they were was a treat... one of the highlights of my tennis life. I hope you get to go!
And if you watched Agassi play way back then, his book "Open" is an interesting read.

Red Six, I had that same conversation w my Dripping Springs kid. She looks at me like I had to heads. Then she realized I was serious. I bet we have horse medicine folks than you do!

My 5th grade daughter in Dripping Springs said 6 students had masks on in her class of 27 (her being one of those 6). Said it started out as more on Day 1 but slowly decreased throughout the week.

Congrats!
One of my images was on the cover of the October edition of Texas Highways (Fall colors) - Images from Texas.
Keep up the good work.

We spent a month there two different summers right after Covid. We like hiking and the outdoors. If you are into that, I thought Mulagljufur Canyon was very cool (and not in any guidebooks we saw). It was an easy hike if you are in the least bit of shape. We stopped there on the way to the Vestrahorn and those black sand beaches. I think AlphaHorn had a photo of Mulagljufur Canyon, as well. Seljalandsfoss is really crowded during the day, but if you go after 10pm you may have the place to yourself. Another place I liked (family was sleeping) was Bruarfoss. I made the 4 mile easy walk out and back under the midnight sun. The emerald-blue color of the water was pretty amazing. In June, the lupine (bluebonnets on steroids) stretched for miles and miles and far eclipsed even the great bluebonnets blooms here in the hill country.
I'm happy to help if you have any questions. We hope to go back in the fall in the next few years ~ Hopper
