Urban ain't coaching here, he'd suffer a heart attack by the time the conference slate set in from having to deal with a team filled with quitters and miscreants.

He'd never have to deal with them because they'd flee or he'd drive them into the portal before the Summer was over.

That being said he's not coming................this year.  After next year?

there was less to learn from Urban than there was from Tennessee and Auburn and perhaps Michigan

    1. Urban was probably never interested in coming here the pressure to win here would have been massive and there are too many issues

    A. he is connected to mensa that is an issue from the start and gets the whole "undermined a former assistant"

    B. look at where he took over before....Florida had massive expectations, but even back then the expectations were not the same with no playoffs, no Saban, no MASSIVE money and he took over a program that was only 3 years into Zook that had not totally run things into the ground

    C. tOSU he moved to a program that was perfect for him, had not been run into the ground at al, and he had some excuses for not winning right off (if that did not happen)

    D. at Texas he is taking over a program with the playoffs in place, MASSIVE issues after two failed coaches, connections to mensa and all the other bullshit

that is nowhere close to what he moved into at Florida or even tOSU

why do all of that when he can go to the NFL, have success or failure (like Nick had massive failure) and still be a shit ass hot name for a college coach in a few years....if he had failed to win it all at Texas no one would point to all the issues at Texas they would have simply looked at the end of his career as a failure and said he walked into better situations at Florida and tOSU

    2. as for what to learn (and learning it from Tennessee and Auburn)

    A. don't send your dickhead boosters and their big fancy plane to interview a coach when you have a coach especially if you have no guarantee you will get the coach you are aiming for and when everyone and their dog will know your big swinging dick G6 was landing to try and hire a coach

    B. don't fire a coach when you have no clue who the fuck you might hire and you have no guarantee that your 1st or 2nd choice is a lock to take the job.....all the more so if you are flying your big swinging dick G6 all over the place with everyone knowing it while you fail to fly home with a coach

    C. undercut your current coach "on the downlow" and don't tell your loud mouth dickhead boosters about your plans......support him until you have cash in hand, your first or second choice in the bag, and then chop his head off, finalize a deal and start moving on while you call those loud mouth dickheads that talked about money to buy out a coach or hire a new one and tell them their ass better start cashing that check

Buckeye I work with brought up something interesting.  He said that tosu has never focused on cultivating whale donors to the AD.  Instead, they've created a system of thousands and thousands of relatively small time 2-10K annual donations, which are tied to the right to buy a couple of season tickets.  He brought up the point that tosu just recently received their first ever 8 figure athletic donation, and it barely cracked the threshold at 10M even, which is kind of odd for a school that--checks google--has a 5B+ overall endowment.  Their goal is apparently to remove the influence of Big Cigars who think it's "their" program.  And while I'd guess that they still have some influential boosters, I'd also guess it's nothing similar to our shitshow where boosters feel entitled to start their own rogue coaching searches while the current guy is still employed.  I'd take a wild guess and say that our Big Cigar culture was probably not viewed as a positive, particularly if he was coming from somewhere that limited that as much as it could.

I think that Meyer will do quite well.

He went undefeated at Utah, he turned Florida into a power, he turned Ohio State into a power, and he gives speeches to grown men on a regular basis on the speaker circuit.

Saban with the Dolphins was nothing like Saban of today. Meyer is like Saban today, but much taller, and more calculating.

He will get what he wants from the owner and he will gets what he wants from his players and coaches. He won’t be Belichick with Tom Brady good, but he’ll be a better evaluator of college talent.

Not so sure about that.  Hadn't they played in three BCS championship games in the ten years before Meyer came on board?

As for the NFL gig, the NFL is engineered for every team to go .500 every year.  The separation comes from coaching, the GM and good ownership.  Coaching is a huge question mark since, I believe, Meyer has no NFL experience whatsoever.  The GM and ownership have proven themselves to suck.  I see a Black Monday in his near future.

The words B1G Commissioner Kevin Warren used today were "fluid" and "nimble." Michigan AD Warde Manuel just issued a statement saying other teams shouldn't be penalized for choices made by Michigan.

Penalized?  Haven't other teams been benefiting from choices made by Michigan.

My point was if for whatever reason Urban doesn't want or take the TEXAS job, a good agent will make sure to get him a raise at FOX.  I agree that the money will be considerably less at FOX compared to what TEXAS is offering him, but everyone likes a raise!! 😁

And he'll still be making seven figures (for a guy who doesn't need to work another day in his life) doing what's essentially a zero-stress, part-time job that he seems to enjoy a great deal and is one that doesn't piss off his wife and daughters.  Simply backing up the money truck to this guy isn't the be all and end all, and if he doesn't come, it's not necessarily because someone in Austin fucked it up.

  7. Just not happy with McLaren's race (and qualifying) management.  It's way too conservative and has seemed to have neutered Lando making a 7th or 8th place finish his ceiling.  In today's qualifying conditions, it had the predictable result of both drivers near the back of the grid.

  8. I was driving through Ohio last week and stopped at a truck stop just East of Columbus to get some good diner food.  So, after I'm done eating and ready to get on the road, I go to the bathroom to take a shit and as I'm wiping my ass, I notice some graffiti on the wall that said "FOR A GOOD TIME BE HERE AT 8:50 PM ON XX DATE --BUCKEYE BASS."  I realize that  it's 8:48 on XX date.  I furiously try to get my ass wiped before Buckeye Bass shows up to rape me, but before I can, the stall door gets kicked open and before me stands the most hideous tOSU t-shirt alum you can imagine.  He looks at me and say, "Boy, Urban is in the final negotiating stage with Texas" and turns and walks away.

Take it for what it's worth, but that's what I heard.

I didn't. Came to this board as I found out in search for something else. I went to an Ivy league school so college football wasn't a big thing. I've tried to watch it over the years here and there since my friends are into it but it just really really sucks

I have followed Texas this year since I post here and what I've seen is an unbiased outside view and you just aren't anywhere on the same level as a top program and I only see one possible way to get there. You won't get there with the lack of talent you have now but 3-5 programs have a monopoly on all the top level talent. College football is like EPL. It's why I don't watch that much either

I feel like Uncle Urb is a vengeful fuck. Sticking it to O$U for making him sit out 3 games by going to Michigan would be amazing. For me at least.

Yes and no, and I think that plays into our favor.  From his stint on Fox, I don't think he's lost any love for OSU.  The grin he had when they started the halftime show of the MIchigan game was the very definition of shit eating.  I think he views what happened to him at OSU as between him and the President (who's gone now) and the board.  On the other hand, I think the animosity between he and mensa is real, and it's spectacular.  For him, the notion of coming into Austin and doing what mensa failed at completely gives him at least a 3/4 chub.

The fans and boosters hate Tom. He's bleeding recruits.

At a certain point, it isn't really up to administration anymore.

I think that unless they have a certified home run hire lined up, and we all know who that is, then there will be a strong impulse to write this off as 2020 and put him on the hot seat for 2021.  Of course, that will likely lead to Meyer to USC if he wants to get back into coaching.  I think a few things could seal Mensa's fate though.  Clearly, the wheels coming off on the rest of the season.  I also think Meyer sending a message to CDC that he is eager to take over and bring Texas back would do it.  But if Herman finishes out a 3 loss year with a close loss to WVU, my gut tells me his dumb ass is coming back.

Then again, I have no insider information and am just spitballing and speculating like almost everyone else.

Stroll sucks. He will eventually kill someone.

Agreed.  He's an entitled rich kid who thinks he drives like Hamilton when he's mediocre at best.  Any team not owned by his father would probably be parting ways with him at season's end.

  13. The BMD's, their factions and their entitlement are a huge part of the problem.  It's probably too late to put that toothpaste back into the tube, but if UT could base the foundation of their athletic fundraising on a shitload of 2K donations and less on a few whales who then think they have "ownership" of the program, UT athletics would be in a much better place.  Boosters are always going to be a problem, but I seriously would like to look at some other blueblood programs and see if they have the whale problem to the extent that we do.
