That's not what he is saying. He's saying that if it was up to him, he would question Robinson's ability to be a talent maximizer and stick with the development when he can't be honest about taking visits to other programs.

His opinion may be the same as the Texas staff has currently, but he never said that implicitly or explicitly.

Gerry's tone has changed a lot in the past 24 hours on Robinson, it is easy to read between the lines after he dug deeper, talk to staff, whatever. The fact a new DL offer went out is also pretty telling.

Let me help you and the board understand what is meant by folks referencing academics being important for this recruitment.

The mom was a multi-decade teacher in Lafayette. She's now in leadership for the teacher's union or association in those parts. Her kids have high academic requirements inside of their own household. The "academic" part of this is not just getting a degree, and it isn't something to be poo-poo'ed on this board.

What is getting all of you idiots spun up in the wrong direction is thinking that academics = Texas. There are some $9.95ers that have dealt with this recruitment who have also gotten twisted up in that logic.

The problem is, and I'm negging anyone who thinks we need to hear about or see the actual numbers on this, ATM isn't perceived to be a significant falloff from Texas. The gap is between ATM and OU and LSU. Ohio State is a serious contender because of academics and Johnson, but distance is a major problem. The reason the recruit isn't likely going to LSU is due to academics. The reason the player isn'tlikely going to OU is due to academics. So it's apparently Texas or ATM, and ATM happens to be in a town roughly the size of Lafayette (perceived to be, at least, and no one needs the fucking MSA numbers on this either).

So then ask yourself, when NIL hasn't played a role in a 5 star recruitment, how many of those has Texas won in the trenches in the last 15 years? Not many. Hence people not feeling really confident anywhere around this one.

Am I wrong in reading this as A&M might essentially win this by default because they are the closest, pretty good academically, big-time school to Lafayette? All things else being equal do the elite DL talents just like Elijah Robinson more than Bo Davis?

Or what? Like, seriously, what in the fuck have you done to help? You’re not Burnt Ends and I doubt your TOF. So what value have you added that gives you this sense of entitlement?

Every 5 star recruitment is a fucking knife fight and 5 star DLs also involve hand grenades and automatic weapons. If some idiot program shows up and blows everything out of the market, so be it. But yes, your ire is noted if the work being put it in is for naught because ATM wants to play 11 defensive linemen in their innovative 11-0-0 defensive front.

Any info on 1) why A&M is so hell bent on throwing the money at DL over seemingly all other positions and 2) how in the hell they win some of those recruitments without their depth chart working against them?

I think he was throwing up some "Bird's Up" bullshit hand signal.

Ah shit yeah I thought it was is index finger not his thumb. I didn't realize what their hand sign was.... Yeah fuck that.

Really drove to Austin for this? Let’s win this shit by 70

I actually think they were showing respect to UT. The player was throwing up the horns, I take it as the opposite of disrespect.

I’ll reiterate what I’ve said previously in that I won’t be shocked if Muhammed is the next commitment. I will be shocked if he makes it out of the dead period without having dropped a video or edit.

When Texas lands MM, it does have adjacent value with several other defensive targets as well, and ahead of the aggie pool party push.

ATM is unsurprisingly trying to make a few very large “one day and one day only!” offers at their gathering. That might work with a few guys. However, as discussed here, that’s something that other programs have prepared for this round and already made it clear to players that they shouldn’t accept any “take it or leave it forever” type offers from ATM or anyone else.

The CB out of Alabama is a good example of the process that I’m referencing. He heads to ATM set to take numerous visits and leaves ATM shutting everything down. Problem is, the guy lives in Alabama, not College Station. There are ways for Bama to get in the middle of that no matter what Fisher promises or threatens. Harder for state of Texas recruits, especially those in aggie friendly territory with aggie alums on staffs. Something worth watching. Areas where Chris Gilbert has influence aren’t those areas, fwiw.

It’s crazy to me to think about how bold, yet instructive, it was the first time this kind of thing went down with Demas.

Lets just hope it doesnt work with Anthony Hill

Anthony Hill has been "liking" pro Texas things, even after his top 2 dropped. I know I'm guilty of reading too much into player social media after the Kelvin banks saga from last years but it seems to be trending to us at least.

I still have PTSD from last year's supposed pro-Texas stuff coming from Harris/Perkins/Stewart/Anderson and subsequent shenanigans. Although the pro-Texas stuff this cycle seems to have much better follow-through.

Yeah... I don't see the Arch momentum dropping anytime soon... every single time Texas plays a game the commentators are going to go on and on about it.  Every time a halftime show shows Texas he will come up... Arch will be responsible for (at least) doubling NIL valuations for most recruits moving forward with Texas. His exposure will be insane for next year plus.

I don't mean to say that Arch won't be a big deal for Texas and a major talking point all season and beyond. But the shock and awe of the commit and its influence on the 18 year olds is only going to last a month or two. I know he is reaching out to recruits and that will help a lot but once the season starts it is all going to be about how Texas looks on the field.

Also said they were told this recruitment could extend into August

Whether Baxter desires a bidding war or not - sounds like this is what his might turn in to.  Florida, aggy, and Miami are all desperate for his commitment.  Desperation can lead people to do stupid things.

To me this is bad news for Texas. The longer this recruitment goes it will trend more toward the Florida schools IMO. Plus Texas will be on the tail end of the Arch momentum

UTSA? Ha. It would be more like hiring Choate away from Montana State to coach your linebackers

UTSA is FBS, Montana St. is FCS. It is not the same. Not to mention the exact vacancy exists due to a coach departing for a HC gig at FBS level.
