If we're meaty ochre then UW is only marginally better, perhaps meatier ochre.

More out-coached - or maybe out-scouted - than out-played. The tipped too-low throws over (well, not-quite over)  the lines were not accidental.

Help me here. Which coach threw those low passes?

Michigan does a good job of playing zone defense.

IF Penix and receivers are synced like they were on us, he surgically are up a zone. Big if. But put it on Washington unless Metachickens get some kinda pressure on him. If he has time, and as accurate as he as on us, they score. A lot. Mich won’t.

We should have been running the ball and controlling the clock. Help your defense out some and keep them off the field. Especially when you’re getting 9 a touch.
The defense was terrible but Sark absolutely shit the bed for two full quarters.

Last sentence. Stop after “defense was terrible”. 300 passing yards in 1st half isn’t on Sark. That’s poor defense. DBs cost us ou game and this game. They’re just not good. Easy interceptions this year was fools gold. Penix picked us apart. Quick release killed any hope of rush. When we DID get pressure, he easily outran us and then completed quality throws. He had career day.  We fumble away good drives and still had chance to win. Good season assholes. Experience your anger and grief as I am, but have some perspective. We’re good. Not great. Yet. Hire some DBs with speed and stick and we would have been undefeated THIS year. We went to war with the army we had. Almost pulled it off. Hook em.

the fade to AD worked for a TD earlier tonight.

That’s why they were ready for it. Break tendencies. Go shirt to pylon. DB has to go through Adonai. Can’t break it up without PI. We win. It would be cool if the line could/would protect and give Ewers time.

Lots of accounts….some sports outlets (and fans) are like Kardashian nation.  That, not NIL, is more of a problem for the future of college sports.

In case it has not been posted, Texas and Notre Dame are tied for #4 in all-time wins. Each team has 948. If Texas wins on Monday, Notre Dame drops to 5th all-time.

Before we went dark (thanks to Mack-chilly-Mensa) for 12 years (2010-2022) Texas went back and forth with Mich for total wins for decades. We fell waaay behind during that sad period.

what I meant by fragile is their win condition I should have clarified/chosen a better word. Their win condition is they have to have explosive plays and great games through the air to win. If you get them off their win condition they are pretty doomed.

Texas has all kinds of win conditions, they are a team that finds ways to win, or shuts the door on teams from having a win condition. The exception was OU which was and still is an inexplicable breakdown of epic proportions.

Easy. I can explain. A minute left in the game. Rush 3 and play “prevent” defense. which prevents nothing!  You see it every week in college AND the pros. How’d Bama beat Auburn? Never rush 3 for more than a play to confuse the QB. 8 DBs means nobody actually covers anyone.

And I’m “hopping” mad that the uw poster has pissed off T Sweat to uw’s ultimate demise! Plus the uw poster is prob an English “perfesser”  who can’t write right! So much for academic excellence Washington. Have they ever heard Sweat elocute? He’s waaay ahead of Kirk Herby and most announcers already. Chris Carpenter needs to have Red Cross on standby.

In his Monday press conference recently, he said he does a post-mortem of the season and that they evaluate everyone on staff starting with himself. I would love to know how fair and complete of a job the evaluation looks and use that as a guide to how we should look at his compensation.

Given his past, I was very concerned when we hired him because of the amount of stress that comes with the UTHFC position. I thought it would be one of the most difficult challenges to his sobriety imaginable. I love that he's been successful and the growth that he's obviously had over the years, including his time on the 40. At this point he does look like our long-term guy. It's so damn nice to have this feeling again.

And to think he did it all with unlimited support for the Austin media and the posters on this board. I kid. Even more impressive is he knows people all over were bitching and moaning and he just hunkered down and worked. Turning around a supertanker takes 12 miles. They’re big and slow. But they have great cargo and great momentum. All the little guys with motorized odysseys budding around are annoying but won’t sink the supertanker. (Unless they have armed rockets). Carry on shagsters. Let’s have fun while we mess up the college football world.

I know GD lacked pre-VY in production but not talent, which is why I compare the two. I’m not sold on Sark to produce as HC even with elite talent. But make no mistake, elite talent should win at elite levels. Yeah, I said it. You recruit top 3-5 every year you should be in the CFP semis 3 out of 4 years. Let’s see if he can win 9 games without having the best RB in CFB.

As for nit picking - I don’t really subscribe to the hindsight model of criticism. Plenty of plays are criticized based on outcome not available information at the the time the decision was made.  But trends do matter. His offenses disappeared for long stretches, he underutilized BJ all but a few games. He made a few situational mistakes I thought like going for the block against TCU, and I think his ability to adjust is lacking. But this pass or that run, nah. This Ewers decision or that one, nah. This blown assignment or that one, nah. Especially on player mistakes he got a pass from me this year on youth. I get it, what it takes to find the flow state where good decisions are made effortlessly is extremely hard and takes a ton of practice and experience. So you have to separate that out and look at whether sark did the things he needed to do to put this team in the best position to win now. He didn’t do that repeatedly. I mean with the known WR/QB issues I can’t figure out how you aren’t throwing the ball to BJ 3-4 times a game, he averages over 15 yards a catch and is widely known to have great hands and make the first guy miss. How many receptions did he have this year? 16 … for the whole year.  Fact is, sark might be good on a white board but he lacked this season when he had one of the best players in all of football he coulda rode to 9+ wins.  He gets a C at best on game planning and play calling from me this year.

I said play calling.  I think he’s actually suspect when he’s got the full HC job to handle as well as play calling. I hope he proves us all wrong (or right for those that think he’s the guy). As for play design, meh, GD won a championship copying others, Mike Leach, God rest his soul, runs circles around Sark on innovation but didn’t win anything. true innovative play design in its purest form is over rated.  Coaching and calling plays and executing are where games are won.

again, hope is the best strategy if you aren’t willing to just take a dispassion wait and see approach. I’d like to think I’m the latter but I’m bitching on a message board so I guess I’m the former. I hope it gets better.

Going back over and found this. Well said Trophster. Erudition is you.

I do think he should get a one time bonus or an accelerated contract amount and a renewal but I think it’s too early to say give this guy a top 5 contract in college football for 5+ years with most of it being guaranteed.

That’s something I can agree with. Big bonuses, incentives short contracts. Things change. Mack forgot the plaque on his desk that said “Complacency Kills”. It happened to him. Hubris comes with pride. Sobriety is about humility and managing expectations while relying on a Power Greater than yourself. I know. Foreign to shaggy. “WE ARE the power”. Which is why many wanted to crap on Sark. “He’s drunk” “he’ll get drunk” etc. it could happen. We all fall. Just think about what you wish for … a sober, sane Sark who wins championships. Or your/our own arrogant “owning” of our own coach. Don’t put him on a pedestal. But don’t hold him to higher standards than you have for yourself. Oh, ok, commensurate with your salary and station in life. Whatever that means. I love the insanity on the surl/shag. Let’s step back from the bitter edge now and then and enjoy the ride! It’s been too long in the darkness. Maybe enjoy the Sarky sunshine for a little while! 🤘🤘🤘😎

I’m not going to lie I could see the Big 12 doing good here.   5-3 not bad, need to look at the SEC bowl games.   They might lose more than they win, again like normal the last few years and this year vs every other power 5 conference in out of conference games...   Come on let’s not start sucking that sec bias teet yet.

I’m still struggling with the “conference pride” issue. SEC perfected it and it’s useful for SOS, now SOR blah blah blah. Media cucks blah blah blah. But I can’t root for “Rig 12 teams” this year. And most years. Sometimes a team will earn respect and I’ll support em. But not this blanket amnesty for teams that wish to do us harm. I don’t do SECSEC unless it’s to mock the aggies. That’s over now. We can and should be classy and still have “Texas against the world” mentality. Ain’t nobody gon help us! Nobody ran to our aid when the Japanese bombed the Alamo!  Right?

    The Big 12 has:

West Virginia vs. Mack Brown North Carolina Football

    UCF vs. Georgia Tech

    Kansas vs. UNLV

    Texas Tech vs. Cal

    Kansas State vs. NC State

    Iowa State vs. Memphis

    OU sucks vs. Arizona

    Oklahoma State vs. A&M

So we have two (or more depending on how you feel about the ACC and A&M). Is that not normal?

How does the Rig 12 get 9 (really 7) teams in? We get to win some more $$$$ for the whiner left behinds on the way out? Yeah. Let’s do it!

Yeah I got something to say. I’m an old guy who grew up on SWC football and have less than 10 posts in the football board in the last decade, so I’ll speak up.

Congratulations on the Championship. It’s about fucking time UT football didn’t shit the bed. Texas wasn’t playing for a championship today so much as escaping a reputation for habitual underachievement. Thank God Texas finally stumbled upon a HFC who hit rock bottom before he got to Austin.

    Here’s to new beginnings.

Rooting against a SEC Texas seems hollow, so fuck OU. From now on I hope Texas prevails, now that it’s not like watching your dumbass brother beat up on your annoying brother.

Also, this board should be vastly improved from now on because this afternoon ends the whining, right?

    Best wishes in the SEC.

    Go Louisville.

Good post Bear Schlong. I agree with almost all. Except: If surly had no whining? What’s the point? Really you just wrote that!
