aggy is about to make a lot of coaches a lot of extra money with quick extensions. Dan Lanning and Kalen DeBoer will be the first.
Ducks extended Lanning in July. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/oregon-locks-up-dan-lanning-with-45-million-extension-including-20m-buyout-should-coach-leave/

I appreciate you and @LTbear expressing that sentiment. But candidly--no, you won't.
Virtually every week, the B1G is going to have some late West Coast conference game featuring either USC or UCLA. And for those of you who still care about the Big XII, that conference is going to do the same thing with Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado. With four schools out west, the Big XII is virtually guaranteed to have a late West Coast game every Saturday.
So are you going to watch Iowa @ USC or Kansas State @ Arizona rather than Utah State @ Oregon State? Hell yeah you are.
Our side conversation was focused upon which conference (AAC/MWC) would be a better home for OrSU/WSU now that they are outcasts. Televised Big 10 or Big 12 games don't really factor into the choice we were discussing.
The more realistic question I was answering in my response was that as a PAC NW resident (who is not a primary fan of OrSU or WSU) I would be more interested in watching either school regularly play regional games against Boise St. or Nevada rather than cross country conference matchups with AAC schools like Temple and South Florida.
This is a fan level response that does not even get into the economics of choosing either the MWC or AAC.

All of this. I enjoy the lesser-known late-night games, and as a longtime mountain time zone resident, I enjoy watching MWC teams play in a still regional league outside of the big-time limelight. I'd turn on a WSU vs Boise game anytime as the nightcap to a solid day.
Agreed, with a spouse as an alum and living within short driving distance, there are some games I would consider buying tickets for as a fan of college football.

Naw... still have 2023 season 😋
I am also curious what people think will happen to the infrastructure of the Pac 12 Network. You can't have the current commissioner sell things off rummage sale style cause he should already be canned. Can't have a deep pool of people who would apply to be the head of the Pac 4. Look for some entity to buy the whole hardware package at a discount like Apple? No other conference is going to want to touch it.

There’s a decent chance Oregon State wins the PAC 12 this season. The schedule sets up pretty well. No USC. They get Utah and Washington at home. I’m here for the irony.
Shared this article with my wife who is an OSU alum. He is promoting the same idea.

I'm pretty sure Texas could wrangle a PAC invite now if they wanted to.
I don't think that Florida fans, or those of any other university in the SEC, feel deep comradery for other SEC schools. I can't imagine, as a fan, traveling to another school and thinking "Ah, these are my people!" Nope, I'm here to have a good time, see a great game in a cool environment. If you need that sense of belonging I'd suggest crossfit.
That said, if you want to compare atmospheres in the SEC vs Big10, that seems like a way to go. But the idea of having your, or your university's, credibility burnished or tarnished based on athletic opponents seem very myopic. I feel like Delany during his time at Ohio St. was the one really pushing this narrative as a salve to soothe their losses, which as a Florida fan was quite funny.

I doubt they do interviews at picnic tables outside taco trucks that serve lengua and tripas.
But if they did, it would be classy AF.

Hey. I am in the top 3 of Surly rep points. That DEFINITELY makes me a leading figure.
But, you've got me on the "of the intellectual elite" part of it. And the FT ain't gonna write a piece on "a leading figure of a bunch of assholes."
I would be interested to read the restaurant and menu commentary from the FT's time with you.

Over 100. Most have been really good. A few stinkers but all from the early eps where he was actually visiting dives.
Agree with most of stinkers are from early episodes. Some of the BBQ related joints have been disappointing--but there are other online sources to consult for bbq recommendations. That is one of the things that brought me to surly world.

I do some research before I travel. I have hit quite a few. There have been hits & misses and meh in there.
Top of my list would be the Red Iguana in Salt Lake City. There big claim is mole'. Probably been there more than 5 times but less than 10 on our trips from West Coast.
We had an amazing experience at Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Waiter was very knowledgeable about beer. Thai Beef Ribs were the headliner and we had two other dishes that were great as well.

AD should definitely be gone at this point, maybe even the school president.
Even if the AD were put on "double secret probation," the baseball situation should take this well beyond a point of no return. School President is relatively new. Schill will probably have to take some actions just to overcome the management of the aftermath of this situation.

According to news reports, the D Coordinator is taking over and the rest of the staff is being retained. The D Coordinator was hired after the investigation was under way. But doesn't it seem like a bad look to keep the entire staff? Shouldn't somebody have known something and reported it to Fitzgerald? Shouldn't some of those people be shown the door for reasons similar to why Fitzgerald was canned?

Let me see if I have it right. The popular perception of the pecking order of conferences is SECX3, then B1G, then a mix of B12/Clempsom, um, I mean ACC, then P12, then everybody else. So outside of the CFI, if a team from a “superior” conference plays one from an “inferior” conference, the “superior” team views it as a letdown and doesn’t want to be there.
So for this Jimmy Kimmel bowl, WSU just doesn’t want to be there, right? I want to make sure I understand the talking points. My wife is an alum of OSU; I would have thought they would have every reason to show up last year against Utah St. since they hadn't been to a bowl game in a while. Beavs ended sleep-walking through a Utah St. beatdown. I didn't see what the deal was with WSU this year because the previously mentioned Beavs were on another channel at the same time. I could see this bowl being an L for the Pac many years. Not justifying it...just observing a small sample size.

Was there - that was a great game (despite UW losing). You just knew whomever had the ball last would score. IIRC, Texas was a double-digit favorite.
Holiday Bowl in the Late 90's-2000's was one of my favorites. Big 12 #3 Vs Pac #2.

I am surprised by the hype. Oregon is Lanning's first head coaching gig. He hired a bunch of recruiters (as did Cristobal before him). There have probably only been a handful of games in his tenure where he hasn't had a player talent advantage. 1st game against Georgia they (UGA) definitely had more talent. UW last year could have been more talented...or at least pretty even. Last year he obviously lost the 1st game against Georgia. He also lost to UW (seemed like their staff out coached the Duck staff) and Oregon State [I can't remember all of the details...(Bo Nix played injured?)]. He also lost to UW again this year with 3 or 4 aggressive (his spin on it) 4th down calls.
He is doing a much better job than Cristobal. He has made some aggressive moves (4th downs) that he stands by, but has been really good at managing the clock. He is young and pretty good but still gaining experience.
AD was being interviewed on local radio about the extension. The AD tried to downplay the way Kelly, Taggart and Cristobal left being a direct cause of the extension with a bigger buyout but it seems pretty plausible. The AD was selling Lanning as impressive with his vision for NIL, Transfer Portal etc. and the way that college football is going. Lanning has coaching potential and an upside, but with the talent advantages he has had, it is still too early to really know conclusively.
