if anyone thinks there is a QB controversy, they must not have watched the Alabama game at all.

    The season:

    Ewers has 2 TD's, 1 int.,359 yards,69.4% on 36 attempts, 1 over 40, 1 sack

    Card has 0 TD's, 0 int, 182 yards, 66.7% on 27 attempts, 1 over 40, 5 sacks 1/2 game injured

One played a patsy, and one played #1 on a bum leg. If Card were to win out through the RRS, it's his rock.

Thanks good stuff. The playbook went conservative when Quinn left, and the entire 2nd half Card was hurt. Let's see how this plays out.

And Card left us on the 2, 15, 6, and 31 on his sustained drives and was 1-9 on 3rd downs (that 1 was a Bijan run). Then he had 4 three and outs which kept letting Alabama stick around. He was good enough to keep it close but QE converts on at least one of those and adds 4 to the board at a minimum.

You have to be in it to win it. Quinn attempted suicide on the chuck and duck. He should have taken the sack.

I very much want Card to help us go 3-0 here, but all of our offensive success statistics got much worse once he replaced Ewers. It's not a competition anymore, he's a nice backup.

Offensive statistics like points? Quinn left with 3 on the board.

I believe that’s a mega pint of BS.

That's debatable. They are basically tied in that stat and completion %. One did most of it against a patsy, and one did most of it with 1 leg against a #1 team.

I never thought I'd say this. But Johnny Depp, shut the hell up.

I thought this was Surly? We got us a bonafide QB controversy in the beginning of a important season and you don't want to talk about it? It doesn't get any juicier that this. Get some popcorn man.

QB1 Shows great potential and jumps right in front of a charging bull

QB2 Jumps onboard and keeps the train rolling with one wheel falling off

QB3 Had everyone checking the depth chart early in the 2nd half, headlines since, might start game 3

QB4 isn't ready to go, there isn't one

Everyone talking about Roshon and the Wildcat.

This is the kind of entertainment we hope for every year, you need to take a shot and a bong hit and join the party.

umm, what?  good christ man.  love hudson's commitment, determination, and humility.  love that he tried to hero ball the game on saturday.  he owes us nothing and we should all rally behind him.  but saying deep ball accuracy is not his issue may be the dumbest football take in history.  the arkansas and iowa state games from last year are some of the most upsetting football passes i have ever seen.

just jump to 14:00 of the below video.  how do you miss xavier worthy when he's 8 yards behind his man?  or 9:25 against arkansas.  you have to be trolling.

Last year is last year. He QB'd our best win. He was a freshman.

Thanks for this.  Post less.  Card was 17th of 17 Big 12 QB's on deep ball accuracy ((completions + drops) / attempts) last season.

We beat one ranked team last year. Card was QB1. That's what matters.

If it's Card a big key in this game will be whether he's learned to trust his receivers and air it out. Against this secondary deep routes are going to be an if I'm even I'm leavin' situation and he has to recognize that and throw a more accurate deep ball.

Quinn has 1 46 yd. deep ball and missed a bunch. Card has 1 42 yarder thrown perfect. Accuracy is not his issue, a slow trigger may be.

I'll play devil's advocate here. Yes it was a gutsy performance and he played through a tough injury. But setting that aside, Card has fallen well below expectations. He was brought in as our most highly rated QB recruit since Gilbert. He was rated the #2 dual threat in the country behind only Bryce Young.

Three years into the program he has shown minimal improvement in pocket presence, poise, and accuracy. Sark cannot even operate his full complement of plays with Card in. So I would say he has been a huge disappointment versus expectations. And if he were starting QB at OU or something we would be celebrating the opp to blitz him repeatedly.

Last year Texas beat 1 ranked team, Lala. Card at the helm. This year he helps them almost knock off #1 Bama. The haters that are uninformed persist. Such is life.

He actually knows how to step up in the pocket and make a throw now. The apology is for doubting him. When he came in at first I was like, "we're fucked..." but as he progressed I was like, "let's go king!" Also, no turnovers. If this is 2021 he throws at least 2 picks and maybe fumbles the ball away.

Card was never an int. risk, threw 1 all last year. That was Casey. And probably in Quinn's future.

    Respect?  Yes.

    Apology? Hmmmmm

Rewatch all of his other games beginning with Arkansas and then get back to me on what needs to be apologized for.

The Arkansas game where Whitt dropped a TD that hit him in the hands? Where Dicker missed a chip shot, then fumbled a punt in the red zone? The one where Bijan failed to show up? The one where the O line looked like a toll lane? That was a team loss.

Ewers May have as well. Per me. Per Sark whom said everyone is day to day. OB don’t know shit.

It's possible an MRI revealed less damage than previously assumed and the coaches wanted to  evaluate his mobility.

You saw what a future NFL superstar looked like on the field in Ewers in the 1st Quarter.  Then, you saw what his backup looked like after that.

We can agree to disagree on this. Card is a future Buchelle or Garrett or Sims of a guy. He was perfectly capable of being a dual threat as we saw Saturday. That's not what Sark is looking for, he wants the QB when asked to pass 1st, and not scramble across the line of scrimmage without looking again for options, and then get a 1st down (which Card did twice and Quinn has yet to do). There is also a mis- conception about Quinn's long range ability. His long is 46 and Worthy had to make a huge adjustment to snag it. Card's long is 42 and he laid it perfect on the outside to Dijon, who had turned to the inside and made a great catch spinning back around. That's it for this team, 2 long shots landed. The middle and short game were mostly chip shots for both. The plays called were not the same, and that's on Sark, and likely cost us the game.

8 seconds on the clock before, 3 seconds after. I can't find a good replay to see if there was a foot down, or PI. Scoring plays should have been reviewable. Add this to the list of Zebra follies.

We need to find a Hudson Card every 3 years or so to keep this thing where it needs to be, starting in 2024.

    We need a QB1 (Ewers)

We need a future QB1 (Arch)

We need a program guy that is willing to get his degree from UT and play when QB 1 gets hurt, learn from Sark, stay in the program 3 or 4 years, and grad transfer out with what he learned to an SMU or whatever type as a guy in his 4th year with 2 years of eligibility left after he gets his degree (Card & Shane B- maybe Charles Wright can be this guy for us too- we shall see Saturday)

We need a pure development guy that might have some upside that we sort of like if he hits it big and nails his development (Mac Jones type- this is Maliik for us).

You can only reasonably expect to take QB1 and future QB1 every other year if we are being honest.

Just incredible buzzards luck that QB1 and backup guy got hurt and future QB1 isn't on campus next year.

I hope Card is back by Tech and wins us that game and WVU.  Then I hope we send him off with his McCombs degree, and a hero's farewell to SMU and watch him light it up and have a 6 year career holding a clipboard in the NFL.

    Game effort.

This thread is about respect. Card has always wanted to play for Texas. Transfer is not in his vocabulary. He isn't going to settle for QB2 either. He's a gamer, and if Sark would have opened up the playbook instead of throwing half of it away when he came in, we would have 2 wins today. Unfortunately, with the ankle, he may not get many more chances, and have to play on 1 leg to do it. He'll be very lucky if it heals anytime soon, he'll have to play with pain like Casey, and we know Sark will have no problem with that.

That clip is misleading.  It cuts off the part before where the defender can clearly see the ball is away and he can pull back.  Instead he drives his entire weight into Ewers and makes no effort to pull back.  It was intentional, meant to injure and he should of been kicked out of the game.  With all the BS calls they make to protect QBs these days including fouls for touching them when they fake slide and then try to take off, driving a QB into the ground with your full weight after they get rid of the ball should call for a multigame suspension

He also wrapped Quinn's arm, keeping him from breaking the fall. Pile Driver. The Chuck and Duck was a bad (busted?) play.

Is Wright quick/fast?  I remember Colt being an excellent runner , deceptively fast. Card looks a step or 2 behind colt and of course with the ankle, all bets are off as far as making something out of nothing. We’re going to need off schedule plays to be made with the qb scramble

The smart thing is to sit Card if possible. A high ankle sprain is notoriously tough to heal, he has swelling and is considered day to day. In spite of that, he was productive running for 2 1st downs. He was a great runner in High School, but that's not the Texas game plan.

No idea on Wright's running skills.

  21. 15 hours ago, Atticus said:

This. There's a reason why he isn't gonna see the field this year. If we see Wright play well in this game, then next year a QB room of Ewers/Murphy/Manning/Wright looks elite.

Just gotta scrape together 8 wins this year, but I'm hopeful the run game is gonna come alive here soon.

At the open practice, Malik only played a little, with an obvious limp. He's recovering from ankle surgery and not 100%. That may be a bigger factor than throwing? Wright looked very competent, if not explosive in practice. He got a ton of reps running the 3rd team. I thought they wasted too much time on him, but now it should pay off.

Absolute garbage. The missed intentional grounding in the end zone should end all of their careers today.

The ball was live, and after the deflection was almost intercepted, which would have counted. It was the right call, eventually.
