nope, and in fact i really think heβs done a super impressive job. i did not foresee liverpool winning the title like this in year one.
that said, liverpoolβs injury luck this year compared to the other title contenders has just made it a totally non competitive race for months now. whether you like it or not, it makes the job slot has done less impressive than what nuno and arteta have done (although nuno probably dropped out of the race yesterday).
i mean look, i included slot in my top three- iβm not dissing him, ive got him as a finalist for manager of the year. but i really donβt think that any objective, neutral party could look at slot vs arteta this year and think, βyeah, winning the league with a fully healthy, perennial title contender is more impressive than being in second all year with eight(!!!) long term/season ending injuries to players like odegaard, saka, gabriel, havertz, white, etc, etc. youβre taking about basically 80% of our best players missing 3-8 months with injuries this year. beyond that, our entire attack is based around a)the white-odegaard-saka right side connection, and b)big gabi on set pieces. thatβs literally like 80% of our goals, and yet all of those players have missed 3 months at minimum this year, if not twice that. we also have the best defense in the league despite long term injuries to 3/4 starters on our back line. itβs frankly insane how good weβve been all year having to play partey at rb, two 18 year olds as starters, and mikel merino at striker. itβs truly insane that this patchwork team has been this good.
for me, the only managerial job that sticks out as better than this one is CR running away with the league with leicester, a performance that really stands alone. just imagine liverpool losing salah, VVD, TAA, mac allister, etc for 4 months+ and tell me honestly where liverpool would be on the table. it would not be in second place.
