    Singlehandedly torching his pro prospects

I know Ewers only had one interception before this game, but he was dangerously close to throwing plenty others, making questionable throws. To me he was lucky to not have thrown four or five before this game.

  2. Just saw Tears For Fears at Moody.  Bought tickets last minute and was glad I went.  Roland and Curt sounded great and can still carry their vocals 35 years after their MTV prime.  I always have that concern when I see nostalgia acts-- that a singer's voice will have deteriorated so much that the band will have to do their songs in different keys, or add a bunch of backing vocals or effects, and the songs just won't come off with the same energy as the original.  Wasn't the case with the show tonight.  I enjoyed the songs from the new album, too.

I'm cool with that, kids won't be.  I think we're gonna do the bike/truck cheat code.  They need to get used to this shit because Texas is only getting hotter despite us all lying to ourselves about it.  They can make it an hour, we'll bring a picnic.  I just wish they'd do May/June shows again next year.

We won some tickets to some show next month at the outdoor Moody amphitheater at Waterloo Greenway.  Starts later and sun will be set at that hour by mid-August.  And we've got a better parking spot across the street.  Whew.  I remember when my biggest worry was losing your kid at a concert.  Now it's heat-stroke.

Ah well, getting tickets for Duran Duran the weekend of the Kansas football game at Moody.  Will be first time seeing a big concert there.  Going sober with a drunken Catholic Priest who's a big Jayhawk and 80's dance music fan.  I think we really are in a simulation.

I think that show was last month at Moody.

  4. M83 at Stubb's was cancelled last night.  Band came on a little after 9:00.  Played instrumental intro song, Anthony Gonzalez then came out, sang one line on the second song, suddenly unstrapped his guitar and set it on the ground, and walked off stage.  The band continued the instrumental part of the second song, then walked off themselves.  I was standing near the sound board, watching the sound engineer, who seemed to be in a panic, so I figured there were sound problems.  About 20 minutes later, someone walked on stage and said show was cancelled due to bandmember illness.  It was a pretty strange string of events.  All the concerts I've been to over the years, I don't think I've ever seen anything like that.  Disappointed the show didn't happen as I was really looking forward to a fun Friday night show from a favorite band, but certainly hope Anthony Gonzalez is OK.

Dredging this one up. Hit me with your martini technique. I rinsed the glass with dry vermouth, put 2 oz vodka and splash of vermouth in a shaker with lots of ice, shook the shit out of it, strained it into a large martini glass and added a splash of olive juice and a blue cheese stuffed olive.

It barely filled the glass 1/3 of the way. Do restaurants just use a ton of booze?

You may be over-diluting your drink by shaking. The Martini is a stirred cocktail, despite the famous James Bond line about “shaken, not stirred.”

I learned to make Martinis by watching a couple of The Educated Barfly’s videos on YouTube— Every Martini You’ll Ever Need To Know and Evolution of the Martini. As a fun cocktail project, I bought all the ingredients he uses in the Evolution video and did a history of the Martini cocktail night.  It was a good way to learn my way around the Martini.

  6. Conspiracy theory time regarding ear-ringing noise level coming from stadium speakers:

    1.  Estes Audiology pays big bucks to be advertiser on jumbotron and ribbon boards in stadium.

    2.  In addition to receiving the stadium ads, for paying this big fee, stadium producers will crank the volume to ear-drum piercing levels.

    3.  Monday morning, Estes Audiology books appointments for potential new patients seeking ear plugs, hearing aids, and assessments for loss of hearing and tinnitus, a remarkable number of which attended these games.

  7. I got to my seat last night about 5 minutes before kickoff.  My heart sank when I heard Bob Cole's voice again.  I thought he was replaced after hearing the very professional sounding substitute PA guy a couple weeks ago at the UTSA game.  Guess I need to keep answering the UT Athletics surveys and repeat the message that hearing Bob Cole's obnoxious schtick is a real beating.
